Overview
Allswell is a home goods company that produces a range of affordable mattresses, sheets, pillows, bed frames, and other accessories. The online brand is owned by Walmart and delivers throughout the U.S.
The company currently offers five mattress models: Allswell, Brick, Luxe, Supreme, and Cool. All are hybrid models that combine memory foam comfort layers with coiled support cores.
Allswell is the brand’s flagship design and has the lowest profile and price tag of the models. The Brick is slightly taller and is intended for sleepers who enjoy firm surfaces. The Luxe is also 12 inches thick but has a slightly plusher feel. Allswell’s more luxury model is the Supreme, which is notable for its Euro-style pillow top and a 14-inch profile.
This review focuses on Allswell’s most recent addition, the Cool. As the name suggests, the mattress is designed with temperature control in mind. Similar to the Supreme, the Cool boasts premium features but is priced lower than the average luxury hybrid.
We’ll delve into the Cool’s materials, construction method, pricing, and performance across a range of categories. We’ll also discuss how sleep position, body weight, and other factors impact the way the mattress feels and performs.
Ideal For:
- Side and stomach sleepers
- Couples who value strong edge support
- Hot sleepers
- People who easily awaken during the night
Considerations:
- May not be supportive enough for stomach sleepers over 130 pounds
- Might be too tall for those who prefer low-profile beds
- A heavier design that may require extra assistance to move
Mattress Performance
This refers to how well a mattress prevents motion from traveling across its surface. People who share a bed or easily awaken from their partner’s movements usually value solid motion isolation.
Thanks to polyfoam and memory foam layers, the Allswell Cool absorbs motion and minimizes transfer fairly well. This can help to reduce nighttime disturbances. Individually wrapped coils also restrict motion transfer since each spring moves on its own.
The Allswell Cool should deliver decent pressure relief for most sleep position and body weight combinations.
The memory foam contours the body and cushions key pressure points on the hips, shoulders, and spine. The foam’s enhanced responsiveness encourages good sleep posture by not allowing heavier body parts to sink too much. Even weight distribution helps minimize uncomfortable pressure buildup.
While most sleepers should gain considerable pressure relief on the Cool, stomach sleepers weighing 130 pounds or more might not get the support needed to align the spine. Their midsections could sink excessively, putting pressure on the lower back.
With cooling features from the cover to its core, our testers found that the mattress does live up to its name.
The breathable fabric cover has gel infusions designed to wick away excess heat. Responsive comfort layers keep sleepers on top of the mattress to promote more surface airflow. Copper infusions are also intended to minimize heat retention.
A pocketed coil core promotes notable airflow, making the mattress suitable for most hot sleepers. Stomach sleepers over 230 pounds are most prone to heat buildup since they’ll sink more into the comfort layers.
Sturdy coils along the perimeter give the Cool notable edge support. The sides resist sagging under weight and pressure, so sleepers should experience consistent support throughout the mattress. Robust edges benefit co-sleepers or anyone who veers toward the perimeter when sleeping.
The Cool’s responsive memory foam and a coiled core permit easier movement compared to most competing all-foam mattresses. The mattress offers a more moderate body-hug, so sleepers shouldn’t feel “stuck” inside the upper layers. The springs also increase the comfort system’s responsiveness.
Ease of movement may be less notable for sleepers over 230 pounds, as they’ll sink deeper into the mattress. This would be more of an issue for combination sleepers who tend to change positions frequently. That said, most sleepers should feel like they can move freely on the Cool.
The Cool offers many of the features that couples tend to appreciate during sex. Considerable bounce makes changing positions easier, while solid pressure relief enhances comfort.
Overheating can be a distraction during sex, but gel infusions and a breathable core help couples stay cooler.
A reinforced perimeter offers strong traction throughout the bed, making certain positions easier to execute.
It’s not uncommon for new mattresses to emit a chemical-like smell, especially when there are thick foam layers. Off-gassing odors aren’t considered harmful, and they usually don’t last long.
The Cool uses different types of foam, so there might be a noticeable smell after unpacking the mattress. The odor should disappear within 48 hours, and much sooner if the mattress is in a well-ventilated room.

Sleeping Style and Body Weight
Allswell Cool
Side Sleepers:
While the Cool’s comfort system doesn’t hug the body as much as other models, side sleepers should receive enough contouring to ease pressure buildup. The foam layers cushion pressure points on the shoulders and hips while promoting even spine alignment.
Pressure relief might not be as significant for sleepers under 130 pounds, as they won’t sink as much into the comfort layers. For most side sleepers, the medium firm surface should be plush enough to ease tension.
Back Sleepers:
Back sleepers tend to thrive on mattresses that moderately contour to the body. The Cool’s balanced medium firm feel should support spinal alignment for back sleepers across all weight ranges. Responsive comfort layers cushion pressure points on the shoulders and spine without allowing the back to sink excessively. The robust coiled core also minimizes sagging beneath the torso area.
We found the comfort layers conform more closely for back sleepers over 230 pounds, but the coils should be sturdy enough to keep the back on a level plane.
Stomach Sleepers:
Stomach sleepers have the hardest time maintaining good spine alignment, especially if a mattress is too soft. Gravity bearing down on the midsection can strain the lower back if a mattress isn’t supportive enough.
During our tests, the Cool’s medium firm surface and reinforced perimeter provided adequate support for our stomach sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds. Those who weigh 130 pounds or more run the risk of sinking excessively, creating an unnatural C-curve in the spine. They would do better with a firmer model that resists buckling under the midsection.
Allswell Cool Mattress Review Breakdown
The Allswell Cool blends polyfoam and memory foam comfort layers with a coil-based support system. The hybrid’s medium firm (6) feel is designed to satisfy a range of sleep styles and body weights. All three layers total 13 inches thick.
A 1-inch quilted fabric cover adds plushness for subtle pressure relief. Gel infusions in the fabric are designed to keep the mattress’ surface more temperature neutral. The medium firm feel also minimizes uncomfortable heat buildup by preventing sleepers from sinking too much.
The 1.5-inch polyfoam comfort layer boosts pressure relief by distributing body weight more evenly. Copper infusions are meant to draw out heat and reduce odors associated with bacterial growth. A 1.5-inch layer of memory foam below moderately hugs the body to help alleviate tension. The foam is engineered to be more responsive than traditional memory foam, so sleepers shouldn’t feel “trapped” inside the mattress.
Pocketed coils in the support core are designed to limit motion transfer. As such, movement shouldn’t ripple across the surface and disturb sleeping partners. Sturdier coils along the perimeter help boost edge support.

Mattress Prices and Sizing
Allswell is known for its affordability, and the Cool Mattress is no exception. Despite being one of the brand’s higher-end models, the mattress is still less expensive than the typical luxury hybrid. The Cool’s solid durability and accessible price tag should appeal to value seekers.
The mattress is available in all six standard sizes. As expected, price and weight increase with size. The steel coils add considerable weight, so at least two people should set up or move the mattress.
At 13 inches thick, the Cool is taller than average and may require sheets with extra-deep pockets.
