Canadian-based Silk & Snow combines affordability and luxury. Its product line includes bed frames, duvets, sheets, pillows, blankets, mattress protectors, and two mattress models. The Silk & Snow Mattress is a budget-friendly all-foam model, while the Silk & Snow Hybrid combines foam and coils for a balanced feel.

The Silk & Snow Hybrid is a hybrid model. It has an antimicrobial cover, a top layer of quilted cooling polyfoam, a comfort layer gel memory foam, and a zoned pocketed coil core. While it comes in at a higher price point than Silk & Snow’s flagship all-foam mattress, the Silk & Snow Hybrid is still an excellent value compared to most hybrid models on the market. Thanks to its medium firm feel (6 on the 10-point firmness scale), the Silk & Snow Hybrid can accommodate sleepers from virtually any weight group with any position preferences.

We’ll examine the Silk & Snow Hybrid’s construction, performance, pricing, sizing, customer reviews, and policies. Knowing more about this affordable luxury hybrid may make it easier to decide if it meets your needs, goals, and preferences.

Side Sleepers

Side sleepers often experience sharper pressure points since their wider hips and shoulders typically press harder against their mattress than the rest of their bodies. The Silk & Snow Hybrid’s quilted polyfoam top layer softens and cushions the surface of the bed, while the 2-inch memory foam comfort layer further cradles a side sleeper’s curves. This combination of cushioning and contouring helps redistribute the sleeper’s weight to limit pressure buildup and the associated discomfort

The Silk & Snow has a medium firm feel, which may be too firm for some side sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds. They won’t sink in as deeply as heavier individuals, so they might not get the contouring necessary to relieve their pressure points. Those who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds are the most likely to sleep comfortably overall.

Side sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds should also get a good balance of contouring and support from the Silk & Snow Hybrid. The memory foam will shape to their bodies, and the coil core will limit sinkage around their hips and shoulders.

Back Sleepers

Lying on your back on a flat surface typically keeps the spine relatively well-aligned. For the best spinal support, most back sleepers usually prefer a mattress that has enough give to let their hips sink in just a bit without letting them sink in too deeply. The Silk & Snow Hybrid’s quilted polyfoam top and its memory foam comfort layer cradle a back sleeper’s hips, while the zoning of its coil core gives enhanced support to limit sagging around the middle of the bed.

Back sleepers typically prefer a firmer mattress than side sleepers, so the Silk & Snow Hybrid’s medium firm feel can accommodate back sleepers from any weight group. Those who weigh less than 130 pounds may not sink in quite as much as ideal, but they should experience enough support and contouring to rest comfortably. Most back sleepers who weigh less than 230 pounds should experience a good balance between cradling and support.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleeping can lead to aches and pains, but a sufficiently supportive mattress can help limit some of the discomfort often associated with this sleep position. One of the main issues stomach sleepers encounter is sagging near the midsection due to extra weight around their stomachs and hips. Zoning in the Silk & Snow’s coil layer helps support the center of the bed to promote better spinal alignment for stomach sleepers. The quilted polyfoam top and memory foam comfort layer add cushioning and plushness, which many sleepers enjoy.

Given its medium-firm feel, the Silk & Snow may be best suited for stomach sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds. Individuals in this weight group should get ample support while enjoying comfortable contouring. Stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds should also get the support they need, but they may feel the surface of the bed is firmer than ideal. Those who weigh over 230 pounds should also benefit from the Silk & Snow’s zoned support, but the hips of some individuals in this weight group may dip a little too deeply into the bed.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

7/10

The Silk & Sleep Hybrid isolates a moderate amount of motion, which is in line with most similarly constructed models. Its 1-inch polyfoam top and 2-inch memory foam comfort layer dampen motion, so most sleepers shouldn’t notice when their partner rolls over or changes positions. Bounce from the bed’s coil core could lead to some motion transfer when one partner moves more vigorously, but the coils are pocketed to limit the spread of motion across the layer.

Pressure Relief

8/10

Pressure relief occurs when a mattress redistributes the sleeper’s weight, thus relieving the pressure that typically builds up near wider, heavier body parts. The Silk & Snow Hybrid’s 2-inch memory foam comfort layer adjusts to the sleeper’s shape to cradle their pressure points. However, the bed’s medium firm feel coupled with the low-density of its memory foam does not offer the same close-conforming hug as some hybrid models with memory foam comfort layers.

Weight and sleep position also play a role in pressure relief, and the Silk & Snow Hybrid should contour enough for most back sleepers and stomach sleepers. Side sleepers who weigh more than 130 pounds should also sink in enough for pressure relief, but those who weigh under 130 pounds may notice more pressure buildup around their hips and shoulders.

Temperature Control

7.5/10

The coil cores used in hybrid mattresses typically allow for ample airflow, cooling the surface of the bed. With its coil core and breathable design, the Silk & Snow’s temperature regulation is similar to or better than many hybrids on the market.

Infusions of gel in the polyfoam top layer and memory foam comfort layer help wick heat away from the sleeper’s body. While memory foam is often prone to trapping heat, Silk & Snow’s memory foam is a newer generation version with a more open cell structure to let heat escape. Air can also flow between the pocketed coils, further fighting heat buildup.

Edge Support

7.5/10

Thanks to perimeter reinforcement in their coil cores, many hybrid models have sturdy edges. The same is true of the Silk & Snow Hybrid. A layer of firm foam wraps around the outside of the coil system to fortify the perimeter and limit sinkage. Most sleepers should be able to sit or sleep near the edge without feeling like they may slide or roll off, thereby expanding the total usable surface of the mattress.

Ease of Movement

6.5/10

The Silk & Snow Hybrid earns similarly strong ease of movement scores to most hybrid models. Its memory foam comfort layer shapes to the body. Because this foam is lower density, it should respond more quickly to changes in pressure to prevent the “trapped in the bed” feeling sometimes associated with memory foam comfort layers. The coil core adds to the bed’s responsiveness, so most sleepers should not struggle to change positions or move across the surface of the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress.

Off-Gassing

7/10

New mattresses often retain some odors from the manufacturing process, especially when they ship compressed. The Silk & Snow may have a slight initial odor, but it should air out relatively quickly thanks to its breathable design. This off-gassing is similar to most hybrid models.

If the “new mattress smell” bothers you, you can unpack your mattress in a separate, well-ventilated room and leave it there until the mattress airs out. Most smells should be undetectable within a couple of days.

Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress Review Breakdown

The Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress is a medium firm hybrid model that rates around 6 on the 10-point firmness scale. This firmness range is typically considered “universally comfortable,” meaning it can accommodate different sleep positions and weight ranges.

A polyester and spandex blend cover infused with silver encases the bed. The silver infusion helps prevent the growth of bacteria to keep the sleep surface fresher and cleaner. Two layers of foam make up the comfort system. The top layer is 1 inch of quilted gel-infused polyfoam that cushions the surface of the bed while pulling heat away from the sleeper’s body.

Next, a 2-inch layer memory foam contours to the shape of the sleeper to relieve pressure buildup. A gel infusion within the memory foam layer further aids temperature regulation. This is a lower-density memory foam, so it should regain its shape more quickly and trap less heat than most high-density memory foam. However, it’s also unlikely to provide the same close hug that some sleepers enjoy from higher-density options.

Coils make up the mattress core, adding bounce, breathability, and support. Each coil is encased so that minimal motion spreads between individual springs. Zoning within the coil layer gives extra support under the hips and softness under the shoulders to promote proper spinal alignment. Firm foam wraps around the outside of the layer to reduce edge sagging.

The foams in the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress are CertiPUR-US certified, which indicates that they are free of mercury, lead, ozone depleters, and many other potentially harmful substances.
