The Avenco Zone Hybrid Mattress reduces some motion transfer, due to the memory foam comfort layer and individually wrapped coils. Memory foam responds to pressure and returns to its original shape slowly, which helps prevent movements from spreading across the bed.
Hybrids with pocketed coils also tend to be better at isolating motion than standard innerspring mattresses, as the coils react independently to pressure. The Zone Hybrid minimizes bounce and absorbs movement to a minimal extent, which could result in sleep disturbances if you or your partner tend to move around.
If you are easily disturbed by your partner’s movements, however, you may prefer a memory foam mattress instead of a hybrid.

Product Research Methodology: Our Process
Our team at Sleep Foundation conducts extensive hands-on tests for each mattress to provide you with the most reliable, data-driven recommendations and reviews. Below are key guidelines that inform our testing methodology:
- Our testers lie on the surface of each mattress to evaluate factors such as contouring and support. We also use specialized tools to measure performance criteria like pressure relief, heat retention, and motion isolation.
- We test each mattress using various sleep positions to observe whether a mattress is better suited for side, back, or stomach sleeping. We roll around the surface and sit on the edges to gauge ease of movement and perimeter support.
- We have tested hundreds of mattresses and bring years of experience in the mattress industry to the test lab. Our testing team covers a wide range of sleep preferences, sleep positions, and body types. This helps us represent as many sleeper types as possible in our reviews.

Pros & Cons:
Founded in 2017, Avenco is an online direct-to-consumer company specializing in mattresses and bedding accessories. They offer 24-hour customer service, a 100-night sleep trial, and a 10-year limited warranty.
Avenco produces four different models: the Starry Memory Foam, the Silence Memory Foam, the Zone Hybrid, and the Original Hybrid. The Starry Memory Foam Mattress is suitable for those who want a low-profile mattress. The Silence Memory Foam Mattress is designed to sleep cooler than the average foam mattress with open-cell foam and breathable mesh panels. The Original Hybrid Mattress combines memory foam with pocketed coils for contouring and pressure relief.
We’ll take a closer look at the Avenco Zone Hybrid Mattress. Like Avenco’s Original Hybrid, the Zone Hybrid includes layers of foam and coils. It stands out with an upgraded five-zone pocketed coil core. We’ll discuss other aspects that set the Zone Hybrid apart to help you determine if it’s the right fit for you.

Side Sleepers
Side sleepers typically do well with mattresses that are between medium and medium firm, with at least some degree of contouring. This combination of support and contouring helps to relieve pressure points on the shoulders and hips. The Zone Hybrid is particularly suitable for side sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds. It’s firm enough to support their joints, encourage proper spinal alignment, and prevent too much sinkage. This model isn’t as suitable for side sleepers over 230 pounds, as it may not provide enough support for the shoulders and hips. Side sleepers generally prefer the 12-inch model due to its thicker comfort system.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers typically prefer a mattress that is rated between medium and firm, though body weight can affect preferences. The Zone Hybrid is considered to be an excellent choice for back sleepers under 130 pounds, as its medium firm rating provides plenty of support for the back while gently contouring to the shape of the body. Back sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds may sink too deeply into the mattress, and may prefer a firm mattress instead.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers generally prefer a firmer mattress. This helps prevent the stomach from sinking too deeply into the mattress, which puts unnecessary pressure on the lower back and can press the spine out of alignment. A softer mattress may be too conforming for a stomach sleeper, which can feel restrictive.
That said, stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds may find a firm mattress to be uncomfortable, as it puts pressure on the chest, ribs, and stomach. The Zone Hybrid has an average rating for stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds.
Mattress Performance
Motion Isolation
5.5/10
Pressure Relief
6/10
10-Inch Model: 2 / 5
12-Inch Model: 3 / 5
With two layers of foam, the Zone Hybrid provides adequate pressure relief for most sleepers. Latex and memory foam typically excel at relieving pressure points as they conform to the shape of the body, helping to cushion areas like the hips, shoulders, and knees.
The Zone Hybrid combines pocketed coils with layers of moderately conforming foam. As a result, it offers more contouring than traditional innerspring mattresses.
Side sleepers typically require the strongest pressure relief, as the hips and shoulders press into the mattress and benefit from additional contouring. Side sleepers who weigh more than 130 pounds will likely benefit the most from the pressure relief of the Avenco Zone Hybrid Mattress, while those who weigh less may not experience as much cushioning.
Temperature Control
6.5/10
The Avenco Zone Hybrid Mattress regulates temperature and helps keep sleepers cool throughout the night.
Memory foam can often retain heat due to its density, but the Zone Hybrid utilizes gel-infused memory foam that is engineered to draw heat away from the sleeper.
The coil support core is also designed to dissipate body heat, and the modal blend cover allows ample airflow.
Edge Support
6.5/10
10-Inch Model: 4 / 5
12-Inch Model: 3 / 5
The Avenco Zone Hybrid performs well when it comes to edge support. Its five-zone pocketed coil core reinforces the perimeter more than models made entirely of foam or latex.
Stronger edge support reduces sinkage when getting on and off the mattress. Edge support is also beneficial if you share the bed, as it increases the amount of usable surface area. If you tend to gravitate toward the edges of the bed, the reinforced perimeter provides stability.
Ease of Movement
6.5/10
10-Inch Model: 4 / 5
12-Inch Model: 3 / 5
The Avenco Zone Hybrid performs well when it comes to edge support. Its five-zone pocketed coil core reinforces the perimeter more than models made entirely of foam or latex.
The Zone Hybrid is highly rated when it comes to ease of movement. Unlike designs made only with memory foam, the Zone Hybrid’s 8-inch coil support core provides bounce when shifting positions. This responsiveness, coupled with a medium firm rating, means that you won’t sink into the mattress too much. This makes it easier to change positions and move around on the mattress as needed.
Off-Gassing
6/10
10-Inch Model: 3 / 5
12-Inch Model: 2 / 5
The Zone Hybrid may emit a light off-gassing odor when it is first unboxed. Off-gassing refers to the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can produce an unpleasant, chemical-like odor. This is common in mattresses with foam layers.
The zoned coil core of the Avenco Zone Hybrid provides ample ventilation, which helps dissipate any initial odors once the mattress is unboxed. The Zone Hybrid’s foam is also CertiPUR-US certified, meaning it is low in VOCs and free of harmful chemicals.

Avenco Zone Hybrid Mattress Review Breakdown
The Avenco Zone Hybrid Mattress is a three-layer hybrid model that combines memory foam and pocketed coils to relieve pressure points and support different sleeping positions. The top of the mattress features a thin layer of gel-infused memory foam, which is designed to be more breathable than traditional memory foam. Beneath this is a layer of high-density foam, which helps relieve pressure points and promote spinal alignment. The bottom layer consists of a five-zone pocketed coil core engineered for optimal edge support and even body weight distribution.
With a three-layer construction and medium firm (6) rating, the Avenco Zone Hybrid Mattress accommodates all sleeping positions and helps to minimize back pain. Its combination of foam and pocketed coils creates a responsive mattress. This construction also enables the mattress to contour to the shape of your body for pressure relief, regardless of sleep position.
The Avenco Zone Hybrid Mattress is ideal for those who sleep hot at night, as the breathable foam layers and pocketed coils help dissipate heat. The modal blend cover further enhances the breathability of the mattress.
The Avenco Zone Hybrid Mattress is particularly suitable for those who share the bed with a partner that changes positions frequently. The pocketed coils help minimize bounce and absorb motion. This should result in fewer sleep disturbances, as you’re less likely to wake up if your partner shifts or gets up in the middle of the night.
The Avenco Zone Hybrid Mattress is available with a 10-inch or 12-inch profile, though we will be focusing on the latter. The foam is CertiPUR-US certified to be free of ozone depleters, PBDE flame retardants, formaldehyde, phthalates, and heavy metals. The mattress arrives in a box for easy delivery and setup and is backed by a 100-night sleep trial.
