Our hands-on testing shows side sleepers tend to prefer softer, more adaptive mattresses that provide extra cushioning for the shoulders and hips. This is why most side sleepers on our team awarded the highest ratings to the medium (5) and medium firm (6) Honey Hybrid. Both designs feel responsive to movement, but still conform to the body for a cushy, cradling effect.

Side sleepers over 230 pounds were the exception, as many of these testers preferred the firm (7) and extra firm (8) models. The more you weigh, the deeper you’re likely to sink into a mattress, so people who weigh more than 230 pounds typically need a more robust support system.

Back Sleepers

Back sleepers tend to need more support than side sleepers because their shoulders and hips don’t push too deeply into the mattress. A flat, even surface is needed to keep their head, neck, and back in alignment. For this reason, back sleepers on our testing team weighing up to 230 pounds mostly preferred the medium firm and firm Honey Hybrid models. Back sleepers also appreciated the robustness of the extra firm (8) design. 

A small number of back sleepers under 130 pounds gave positive ratings to the medium and medium firm designs, but these models were too soft for the most part.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers often appreciate latex hybrids for their sturdy support systems and strong surface bounce. This proved to be the case with stomach sleepers on our team testing the Sweet Zzz Honey Hybrid. Most of our stomach sleepers weighing up to 230 pounds liked the medium firm and firm designs, while the extra firm model earned a lot of support from stomach sleepers over 230 pounds.

Stomach sleepers tend to experience more aches and pains than side and back sleepers, especially in their neck, shoulders, and lower back. This is because people carry more weight at the front of their midsection, and gravity can pull your body downward into a mattress when you sleep face-down. This is why stomach sleepers generally prefer firmer, more responsive mattresses that won’t sink too much.

Sweet Zzz Honey Hybrid Mattress Breakdown

The Honey Hybrid Mattress from Sweet Zzz has four total layers for a combined height of 13 inches. Many of its materials are organic or sustainably sourced, and it holds Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS), USDA Organic, Climate Neutral, and eco-INSTITUT certifications. 

The mattress has a quilted cover made from organic cotton for breathability and softness. Next, a layer of organic wool acts as a natural fire barrier while adding cushioning and wicking away heat and moisture.

A comfort layer of GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex relieves pressure while responding quickly to movement. Its rubber-like resilience contours to the sleeper’s body and springs back to its original shape quickly when they move, giving the surface a somewhat bouncy feel. 

An 8-inch pocketed coil system serves as the support core. These tempered steel springs are individually wrapped and reinforced at the edges for stable support across the full mattress surface. The final layer is a thin wool and cotton blend that anchors the mattress and increases durability.
