The Sleep Fresh brand launched in 2020 and currently offers one mattress, a hybrid model made with gel-infused polyfoam and pocketed coils.

The Sleep Fresh Mattress features zoned polyfoam and zoned coils engineered for targeted support and pressure relief. With a firmness of medium, or 5 out of 10, the mattress is designed to appeal to a variety of sleepers. The polyfoam has gel infusions intended to help maintain a cooler sleep surface.

We’ll take a closer look at the layers that make up the Sleep Fresh Mattress, and analyze how they influence its performance. We’ll also discuss pricing and company policies to help you decide if the mattress is right for you.

Sleep Fresh Mattress Review Breakdown

The Sleep Fresh Mattress is an 11.5-inch hybrid model that combines gel-infused polyfoam with pocketed coils. It has a medium (5) firmness that provides a combination of contouring and support.

The mattress starts with two layers, each consisting of 1 inch of polyfoam. The second layer is divided into five zones, which are designed to offer alternate support and pressure relief for targeted parts of the body. Both layers contain gel infusions that are engineered to draw heat away from the sleeper. Beneath these layers, 1 inch of firmer polyfoam helps provide a transition to the support core.

The support core is made with pocketed coils. These are also zoned, with special emphasis on reinforcing the lumbar area and the edges. A final 1-inch layer of high-density polyfoam adds a sturdy base for the mattress. The cover is made from a breathable stretch knit fabric, treated with a product that’s designed to keep out mold and odors.

Sleep Fresh uses materials that are OEKO-TEX and CertiPUR-US certified, which means that they meet certain standards for chemical emissions. The company uses a nontoxic cotton and rayon fire barrier.

Mattress Performance

Motion Isolation

The Sleep Fresh Mattress offers better motion isolation than many other hybrids. This means that most couples should sleep comfortably in the bed without being disturbed by their partner’s movements.

Some hybrid models transfer motion because innerspring coils are generally bouncy, leading to a more responsive sleep surface.

With the Sleep Fresh Mattress, the 3 inches of foam in the comfort layer help absorb motion. Additionally, because the coils are individually wrapped, they are able to respond to pressure without transferring movement to the neighboring coils. The polyfoam base also supplies a sturdy foundation to limit motion transfer.

Pressure Relief

Pressure relief is a strong point of the Sleep Fresh Mattress. The mattress’ zoned construction is engineered to alleviate pressure buildup in common problem areas such as the shoulders, the hips, and the lower back.

The comfort layers contour to the body, helping prevent pressure points from forming. In the support core, the wrapped coils provide deeper cradling to promote healthy spinal alignment. Side sleepers and those under 230 pounds receive the most benefit, as these sleepers require a plusher sleep surface to minimize pressure points.

Temperature Control

As with many hybrid mattresses, the Sleep Fresh Mattress effectively regulates temperature to maintain a cool sleep surface.

Plush polyfoam can sometimes trap heat. However, the Sleep Fresh Mattress has a breathable cover and gel infusions intended to pull heat away from the body. The pocketed coils in the support core also promote airflow and allow heat to dissipate through the coils.

Overheating shouldn’t be an issue for most sleepers. Those who weigh more than 230 pounds may experience more heat retention, as the foam contours more closely around the body.

Edge Support

The edges of the Sleep Fresh Mattress compress somewhat under pressure, which may cause feelings of instability.

Often, mattresses with foam layers offer less edge support. However, hybrid mattresses generally perform better at edge support due to their firmer innerspring support cores.

Although it features stronger coils along the sides, the Sleep Fresh Mattress also has 3 inches of foam in its top layers. Most sleepers should be able to use the entire sleep surface, but individuals over 230 pounds may find the edges sag considerably when sitting on or sleeping near the edge of the bed.

Ease of Movement

With its medium firmness and foam layers, the Sleep Fresh Mattress inhibits movement more than other hybrid mattresses.

Ease of movement measures how effortlessly a sleeper can move around while laying on the bed. This is an especially important factor for combination sleepers who frequently shift positions.

The Sleep Fresh Mattress cradles the body, but the pocketed coils are supportive and bouncy. Although sleepers sink somewhat into the mattress, the responsive foundation makes movement easier.

Sex

The Sleep Fresh Mattress offers some benefits for sex, including traction and moderate responsiveness. Although most couples prefer a bouncier surface, the mattress doesn’t unduly hamper movement. The limited edge support may restrict the usable surface area, but the pocketed coils should remain fairly silent.

Off-Gassing

Buyers may notice moderate off-gassing odors with the Sleep Fresh Mattress. These are due to the release of VOCs, or volatile organic compounds, which are produced during the manufacturing process. Although off-gassing comes with a chemical odor, VOCs are generally considered harmless.

Any odors present when you first unbox the mattress should dissipate fairly quickly. The mattress can be used the same day it is unboxed, although if you are sensitive to smell, you can also let it air out for a few days first.

Sleeping Style and Body Weight

Side Sleepers: The Sleep Fresh Mattress offers exceptional pressure relief for side sleepers under 230 pounds. The foam comfort layers hug the body and the coils offer firmer support below, helping promote proper spinal alignment. Zoned sections in the gel foam and pocketed coil layers also help cradle the hips and shoulders, which are prone to pressure buildup in this position.

The Sleep Fresh Mattress still performs well for side sleepers over 230 pounds, though these individuals may experience slight pressure buildup where the hips sink into the mattress.

Back Sleepers: The zoned sections of the Sleep Fresh Mattress offer targeted support that works well for back sleepers under 130 pounds. Since back sleeping is naturally conducive to spinal alignment, back sleepers tend to do best with a relatively firm surface and just enough contouring to lift the lumbar spine.

Back sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds also receive decent support with the Sleep Fresh Mattress. However, the mattress may be a little plush for back sleepers over 230 pounds. These sleepers exert more pressure on the mattress, and require a firmer surface to keep the spine on an even plane.

Stomach Sleepers: The Sleep Fresh Mattress lacks support for stomach sleepers, especially those weighing more than 130 pounds. The medium (5) firmness allows sleepers to sink in too far, placing added stress on the lower back and neck as the spine curves into a U-shape. Although sleepers under 130 pounds may find the mattress relatively comfortable, stomach sleepers generally need a firmer mattress for adequate support.
