Yogasleep was founded over 50 years ago under the name Marpac. While the company got its start manufacturing white noise machines, it now offers a full range of sleep products, including bedding, pillows, bed frames, and mattresses.

Yogasleep offers several mattress models: the Yogabed Mattress, Yogabed Cool Hybrid Mattress, and the Yogabed Cool Memory Foam Mattress. The Yogabed Mattress is the flagship model and features an all-foam design with a medium firm (6) feel. The Yogabed Cool Hybrid Mattress combines foam layers with a pocketed coil system and also has a medium firm (6) feel. It carries the highest price-point of all Yogabed mattresses.

Like the flagship model, the Cool Memory Foam Mattress has an all-foam design with a medium firm (6) feel. Unlike the flagship model, however, this bed includes several cooling features as well as a thicker comfort layer. We’ll discuss the construction, pricing, and performance of the Yogabed Cool Memory Foam Mattress, as well as how the bed performs for different body types and sleep styles.

Side Sleepers

The Yogabed Cool Memory Foam Mattress has a medium firm feel and an all-foam design that make it an excellent choice for side sleepers in all weight categories, especially those who weigh up to 230 pounds. Side sleepers exert pressure on the hips and shoulders during sleep, which can lead to pressure buildup. Meanwhile their spine may become poorly aligned if it is not properly supported. The Yogabed Cool Memory Foam Mattress provides ample cushioning to cradle those sensitive pressure points, while offering sufficient firmness to support the lower back.

Side sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds are likely to sink deeper into the mattress. This means they will receive less support and may experience some discomfort as a result. However, the bed should still feel comfortable for many in this weight category.

Back Sleepers

Back sleepers fare best on mattresses that offer generous support and a sufficiently comfortable surface that does not put excessive strain along the spine. Many foam beds are too soft for back sleepers and do not provide adequate support to promote healthy spinal alignment. However, the Yogabed Cool Memory Foam Mattress has a medium firm feel that should provide enough support for back sleepers weighing up to 230 pounds. The firmness creates a flat surface that will keep the spine aligned, while the foam layers cradle the spine to prevent excessive pressure buildup.

Back sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds will sink deeper into this mattress and thus receive less support. This could result in uneven spinal alignment and excessive sinkage in the upper back, which can cause discomfort and pain.

Stomach Sleepers

The Yogabed Cool Memory Foam Mattress has a medium firm feel that is particularly suitable for sleep positions that require some amount of contouring. Since stomach sleepers require more firmness than cradling, they are less likely to find this bed comfortable. Stomach sleepers need an even plane to sleep on to ensure proper spinal alignment. Beds that are too soft will lead to sinkage around the hips and midsection, which may produce painful pressure on the spine.

Stomach sleepers who weigh up to 130 pounds will not sink into the Yogabed Cool Memory Foam Mattress as much as heavier sleepers. For these sleepers, the bed’s medium firm feel may be sufficiently supportive to keep their body on an even plane.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

7/10

As is the case with many foam beds, the Yogabed Cool Memory Foam Mattress excels in motion isolation. The foam cushions the body and absorbs movement, which means sleepers should be minimally disturbed when partners move around in bed. The strong motion isolation makes this an optimal choice for light sleepers who frequently wake up when their partner shifts throughout the night.

The foam construction also makes this bed virtually noiseless when you get out of bed.

Pressure Relief

6.5/10

Foam beds can help alleviate pain or discomfort that results from pressure buildup in sensitive areas during sleep. The all-foam construction of the Yogabed Cool Memory Foam Mattress enables the bed to cradle pressure points such as the shoulders, hips, and along the spine, rather than pushing up against these areas and creating pressure buildup.

The bed should provide ample pressure relief for sleepers who weigh up to 230 pounds. Side sleepers in particular will benefit from this bed’s pressure relief, since side sleeping tends to exert pressure on the shoulders and hips. Some side sleepers over 230 pounds will find this bed comfortable, but back and stomach sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds may find that the mattress is too soft and insufficiently supportive.

Temperature Control

5/10

Foam beds are known for trapping heat, and the Yogabed Cool Memory Foam Mattress is no exception. The foam layers in this mattress have a tendency to retain body heat, which can make the bed uncomfortable for people who normally run hot at night. The foam’s close contouring may further increase heat retention, since there is less space around the body for air to ventilate.

However, the bed is designed with several cooling features that can help reduce some of the heat retention. Two foam layers are infused with copper, which is meant to wick heat away from the body and help neutralize the temperature. The memory foam layer also has an open-cell composition that helps air flow more efficiently through the bed. If you are a hot sleeper who enjoys the feel of foam beds, the cooling components make this a preferable option to foam beds without cooling features.

Edge Support

6.5/10

Foam beds typically provide less edge support than hybrid and latex beds. However, the Yogabed Cool Memory Foam Mattress has a medium firm feel that gives it better edge support than softer foam competitors. If you weigh less than 230 pounds and tend to sleep away from the mattress edge, the edge support of this bed may be adequate. However, if you often sleep or sit close to the edge of the bed, or if you weigh over 230 pounds, you may find that the edge sags excessively.

Ease of Movement

5/10

The Yogabed Cool Memory Foam Mattress offers average ease of movement, which is to be expected for beds with all-foam construction. Since foam conforms closely to the body, it can inhibit movement across the surface of the bed. Sleepers who enjoy the feeling of sleeping on the bed, rather than in the bed, may prefer a latex or hybrid bed.

That said, this model offers better ease of movement than softer all-foam models with lower firmness ratings. The medium firm feel should allow many sleepers to move around with relative ease, especially those who weigh under 230 pounds. People who weigh over 230 pounds will sink deeper into the bed, which can ultimately restrict movement.

Off-Gassing

5.5/10

As with most all-foam mattresses, the Yogabed Cool Memory Foam Mattress may emit a subtle off-gassing odor when it is first unpackaged. The odor is the result of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are a byproduct of the manufacturing process for foam. The odor is not known to be harmful and will typically dissipate within 72 hours of unpacking the bed from its box.

Yogabed Cool Memory Foam Mattress Review Breakdown

The Yogabed Cool Memory Foam Mattress is an all-foam mattress with a 10-inch profile. The bed is composed of four distinct layers of foam that vary in thickness and composition. With a medium firm feel, the mattress is likely to be comfortable for a range of sleep positions and body types.

The mattress is encased in a polyester cover with a zippered construction that allows for easy removal. The comfort layer contains 2 inches of polyfoam that conforms moderately to the body but is firm enough to prevent your body from sinking in too deep — as it might with a mattress made of softer foam. The polyfoam is infused with copper that is intended to wick heat away from your body. The thermoregulating design may appeal to sleepers who enjoy the feel of foam but who typically find foam beds too hot.

Beneath the comfort layer is a 6-inch layer of high-density memory foam that enhances support. This foam is more supportive than the comfort layer and provides an even balance of contouring and firmness. As with the comfort layer, this memory foam is infused with copper that is meant to keep the mattress cool. The foam also has an open-cell design that helps promote airflow.

The bottom layer is composed of 2 inches of high-density foam that provides the bed with durability and stability.
