Established in 2007, PlushBeds is a California-based mattress manufacturer committed to producing high-quality, organic mattresses. The Natural Bliss is one of the company’s latex mattress options, and it is constructed from organic, eco-friendly materials. It’s a hypoallergenic mattress option that contains zero animal products or harsh chemicals. Plushbeds also makes the Botanical Bliss, another latex mattress and the Luxury Bliss, a latex hybrid.

The PlushBeds Natural Bliss mattress is available in three thicknesses (6, 8, and 10 inches) and four firmness options (Soft, Medium, Med-Firm, and Extra-Firm). All are made with organic cotton covers, and organic Talalay and Dunlop latex; the 6-inch mattress is Dunlop latex only. One of the more unique aspects of the Natural Bliss is its adjustability. The cover zips off, allowing you to rearrange the latex layers to create your desired firmness.

This review covers in-depth information about the PlushBeds Natural Bliss Mattress. We’ll walk through how the mattress is constructed and how it performs for different types of sleepers. We’ll also cover pricing information, as well as details about the company and ordering, shipping, and warranty policies.

Plushbeds Natural Bliss Mattress

Ideal for:

  • Customers who want an eco-friendly mattress made from organic materials without animal products.
  • People who want to adjust a mattress to their unique specifications.
  • Customers who want to choose from a wide array of sizes, thicknesses, and firmness options.
  • People who suffer from allergies and want a hypoallergenic mattress
  • Anyone who prefers the feeling of sleeping “on” rather than “in” their mattress.

Considerations:

  • Couples of different body types and preferences may struggle to find the perfect balance in one mattress.
  • PlushBeds requires a 30-night break-in period before you can return the mattress.
  • PlushBeds are more expensive than other latex mattresses.
  • The deepest mattress is only 10” high, which is average but may not be ideal if you want a higher profile bed.

The Natural Bliss mattress comes in four firmness levels (soft, medium, medium firm, and firm) that can be adjusted to your own preference. The right firmness depends on your body type and preferred sleep position.

  • Choose Soft if… you are a side sleeper who weighs less than 230 pounds.
  • Choose Medium if… you sleep on your side or weigh less than 130 pounds.
  • Choose Med-Firm if… two very different sleepers share a bed, as the 8- or 10-inch options are both suitable for sleepers of any sleep position and body weight.
  • Choose Extra-Firm if… you weigh more than 230 pounds.

Plushbeds Natural Bliss Mattress Review Breakdown

PlushBeds Natural Bliss mattresses are organic latex mattresses available in three thicknesses and four adjustable firmness options: 6, 8, and 10 inches, and Soft, Medium, Med-Firm, and Extra-Firm. These firmness options translate to soft (2-3), medium (5), medium firm (6), and firm (7-8) feels on our 10-point firmness scale, respectively.

All of the mattresses have an organic cotton cover; the lightweight fabric is flexible and easily moves with the latex. Although other Plushbeds models include a layer of wool beneath the cover, the Natural Bliss does not contain any wool, rather a plant-based, proprietary fire barrier. No chemicals, including fire retardants, are used in the construction of the mattress.

Each variant of the Natural Bliss uses the same cover, but the specific configuration of support and comfort layers varies by thickness and firmness. All of the mattresses use natural Dunlop latex for the support layer; each model has a 6-inch base of Dunlop latex, which provides a sturdier, more supportive feeling.

As for comfort layers, they vary by thickness and firmness. The 6-inch mattress has the 6-inch base of Dunlop latex used by all models for comfort. This type of latex doesn’t offer as much contouring, but it ensures that the mattress is supportive.

The 8-inch mattress uses a 2-inch comfort layer made from Talalay latex, and the 10-inch mattress has two 2-inch layers of Talalay. Compared to Dunlop latex, Talalay is springier and more responsive, allowing the thicker mattresses to provide more pressure relief and conforming.

Mattress Prices and Sizing

PlushBeds Natural Bliss is an all latex mattress available in multiple firmness and thickness options. Although it’s more expensive than other latex mattress brands, the high-quality latex construction and longer-than-average lifespan make these mattresses a good investment for anyone who wants a latex mattress.

The Natural Bliss model is available in all sizes from twin to California king, as well as twin XL. It’s also offered in split queen, king, and California king. Shoppers can choose from three thickness options (6, 8, and 10 inches) and four firmness options (Soft, Medium, Med-firm, and Extra-firm.) The Extra-firm model in each thickness comes at an additional cost.

Like all PlushBeds mattresses, Natural Bliss mattresses offer adjustable firmness: Simply unzip the mattress cover and rearrange the latex layers to your liking.

You may also choose to purchase the mattress with either an orthopedic or adjustable foundation.

Mattress Performance

  • Motion Isolation

    Med-Firm & Extra-Firm 6-inch model: 3/5, Extra-Firm 8-inch model: 3/5, All other models: 4/5

Overall, Natural Bliss mattresses offer good motion isolation. Couples report feeling little motion transfer when their partner moves or gets out of bed, so their sleep isn’t disrupted.

The exceptions are the 6” mattresses in firm and extra firm, which have slightly more motion transfer than the softer, thicker mattresses.

  • Pressure Relief

    6-inch models: 3/5, All other models: 4/5

With the exception of the 6” mattress, Natural Bliss mattresses offer good pressure relief. The thinnest mattresses provide less conforming than the other options, so the pressure relief is only average. For the most contouring and cradling to relieve pressure on the hips, shoulders, and other pressure points, choose a thicker Natural Bliss.

  • Temperature Control

Overall, the Natural Bliss sleeps fairly cool for most people. Latex is naturally cooler than materials like memory foam, and its open-cell construction allows for more airflow so sleepers won’t overheat.

  • Edge Support

Soft models: 3/5, All other models: 4/5

Like most latex mattresses, Natural Bliss offers moderate edge support. The edges of the softest mattresses have the least amount of support, and sinkage is to be expected. Even on the firmer options, edge support is only average, with those who like to sleep closer to the edge of the bed reporting some feelings of roll-off.

  • Ease of Movement

Overall, sleepers find that it’s fairly easy to move around on the Natural Bliss mattresses. Latex offers some conforming, but sleepers are less likely to feel as if they are sleeping “in” the mattress or as if they are stuck. Sleeping on latex is closer to sleeping “on” a mattress.

  • Sex

    Soft 8-inch model: 3/5, Medium & Med-Firm 8- to 10-inch models: 5/5, All other models: 4/5

All of the Natural Bliss mattresses get high marks for sex, with the 8” and 10” medium and medium firm models scoring the highest. Latex offers plenty of natural bounce and is responsive. The mattress is also virtually silent thanks to the lack of metal springs, so it allows for discreet activities.

  • Off-Gassing

Latex mattresses have virtually no odor in general, compared to conventional polyfoams and other mattress materials. You shouldn’t notice much in the way of strong odors during the setup and first few days of sleeping on the mattress.

Sleeping Style and Body Weight

Plushbeds Natural Bliss – Soft

Side Sleepers: Side sleepers who weigh less than 230 pounds tend to find the Natural Bliss the most comfortable. Side sleepers weighing over 230 pounds are not suited to the soft mattress, as it does not provide enough support, despite providing good contouring.
Back Sleepers: The soft variant is best for back sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds. The mattress conforms to the body too close to provide the necessary support that heavier back sleepers need to keep their spines in alignment.
Stomach Sleepers: Stomach sleepers of all weights gave the soft Natural Bliss low marks. Although the mattress provides plenty of cushioning and contouring for comfort, the soft mattress in any thickness didn’t provide enough support to prevent the midsection from sinking.

Back Sleepers Good Fair Poor

Plushbeds Natural Bliss – Medium

Side Sleepers: Side sleepers under 130 pounds give the medium firmness Natural Bliss excellent ratings, thanks to its extra contouring that provides plenty of pressure relief. Individuals who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds were comfortable on every thickness, while those over 230 pounds distinctly preferred the thicker models. For heavier individuals, the extra thickness provides much-needed support to keep the hips and shoulders from sinking in too far.

Back Sleepers: Back sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds found the best combination of support and comfort from the medium version of the Natural Bliss. While the medium firmness offers some support for heavier sleepers, they’re better off going with a firmer model.

Stomach Sleepers: The medium firmness of the Natural Bliss is going to be most viable for stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds. Heavier stomach sleepers will find it lacking in support, leading to excessive sink.

Plushbeds Natural Bliss – Med-Firm

Side Sleepers: Although heavier side sleepers gave the 6-inch medium firm Natural Bliss only a fair rating, the thicker mattresses get excellent ratings. For those over 230 pounds, the 8-inch and 10-inch medium firm mattresses offer plenty of cushioning, contouring, and support for proper alignment. Side sleepers who weigh less than 230 pounds also preferred the thicker variants of the medium firm Natural Bliss.

Back Sleepers: Overall, back sleepers of all weights give the medium firm mattress good ratings, with the exception of the 6-inch mattress for sleepers over 230 pounds. By contrast, heavier back sleepers gave the 10-inch medium firm mattress an excellent rating, noting that it offers plenty of support.

Stomach Sleepers: The medium firm Natural Bliss gets good ratings for stomach sleepers across the board. Stomach sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds found that the 6-inch mattress, however, is not supportive enough for the midsection, causing lower back discomfort.

Plushbeds Natural Bliss – Extra-Firm

Side Sleepers: Side sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds gave the extra firm Natural Bliss mattress a poor rating across the board. Lighter individuals do not sink down enough into the extra firm latex comfort layers, so the mattress offers little in the way of contouring. Heavier individuals, though, give the mattress excellent ratings, as the firm latex provides just enough comfort and support.

Back Sleepers: Again, lighter sleepers don’t find the extra firm latex provides enough cushioning for comfort, but back sleepers over 230 pounds give it excellent marks.

Stomach Sleepers: Stomach sleepers of all sizes will find the extra firm option comfortable, as it provides plenty of support for the lower body.

Cutsomer Reviews

Overall, customers are pleased with the Natural Bliss mattress. The 8 and 10-inch mattresses get slightly higher ratings than the 6-inch model. Many reviewers note that the mattress has helped alleviate allergy symptoms, in particular those related to wool (the mattress contains no wool), dust, and dust mites. In fact, many reviewers appreciate that the Natural Bliss is made without any animal products at all.

The majority of positive reviews, though, focus on the mattress’s comfort, with most reviewers reporting that the mattress is comfortable and helps them get better sleep. A significant number of reviewers report that the back and neck pain they experienced with other mattresses has disappeared after sleeping on the Natural Bliss, and that overall the mattress is more comfortable than others they’ve tried. Multiple reviewers compare PlushBeds Natural Bliss to memory foam mattresses, noting that it’s more comfortable and odor-free.

The PlushBeds customer service team also receives high marks from reviewers. Customers say that the representatives are knowledgeable and helpful, and that their mattresses are delivered quickly.

Although most of the customer reviews for the PlushBeds Natural Bliss are positive, some customers mentioned the weight of the mattress as a drawback. Latex mattresses are generally heavier than other mattresses, and the Natural Bliss is no exception. That said, the overwhelming majority of Natural Bliss customer reviews are positive without any major issues or complaints reported.
