Our team at Sleep Foundation conducts extensive hands-on tests for each mattress to provide you with the most reliable, data-driven recommendations and reviews. Below are key guidelines that inform our testing methodology:
Our testers lie on the surface of each mattress to evaluate factors such as contouring and support. We also use specialized tools to measure performance criteria like pressure relief, heat retention, and motion isolation.
We test each mattress using various sleep positions to observe whether a mattress is better suited for side, back, or stomach sleeping. We roll around the surface and sit on the edges to gauge ease of movement and perimeter support.
We have tested hundreds of mattresses and bring years of experience in the mattress industry to the test lab. Our testing team covers a wide range of sleep preferences, sleep positions, and body types. This helps us represent as many sleeper types as possible in our reviews.

Puffy is a sleep product company founded in 2016. While the company also produces bed frames, smart beds, and bedding, it is best known for its mattress line. The Puffy Diamond Mattress is the brand’s luxury model.
Other options in the line include the Puffy Cloud, the Puffy Lux, and the Puffy Royal. All have a medium (5) feel. The Cloud is an affordably priced all-foam model, and the Lux and Royal are hybrid models with upgraded features.
The Diamond is the most advanced and high-profile model in the line, measuring 16 inches thick. It is also the plushest, with a medium soft (4) feel. This model incorporates several premium materials and features, including alpaca wool, memory foam, and zoned support.
We’ll break down how the Puffy Diamond Mattress performed in our in-house tests, explain its construction, and assess what type of sleepers might benefit from the model.

Mattress Performance
Motion Isolation
In our tests, the Puffy Diamond Mattress’ exceptional motion isolation stood out among hybrid models. Its thick, seven-layer comfort system absorbs virtually all vibrations, preventing them from traveling across the mattress surface. The bed’s pocketed coil core also helps it prevent motion transfer.
For sleepers who awaken easily when their partner changes positions, this strong motion isolation could be a selling point. Most individuals are unlikely to notice movement on the Puffy Diamond if their partner tosses and turns or gets up during the night.
Pressure Relief
Thanks to its thick comfort system and medium soft (4) feel, our testers found that the Puffy Diamond Mattress offers notable pressure relief. The alpaca wool and fiber layers cushion the surface, while the polyfoam, latex, and memory foam layers mold to the sleeper’s body to limit pressure buildup. Additionally, a layer of zoned polyfoam provides variable support for more targeted contouring.
Side sleepers under 230 pounds are particularly likely to benefit from the Puffy Diamond’s pressure relief. By redistributing their weight, the mattress reduces pressure buildup around their hips and shoulders, which is a frequent cause of discomfort for side sleepers.
Temperature Control
Compared to other hybrid models, the Puffy Diamond Mattress regulates temperatures moderately well. Because of their breathable cores, hybrid models often remain at a neutral temperature throughout the night. The Puffy Diamond’s alpaca wool layer, perforated latex layer, and coil core encourage air circulation to reduce heat retention. However, the polyfoam and memory foam layers may hold some lingering body heat.
For most sleepers, the Puffy Diamond’s temperature regulation should more than suffice. However, hot sleepers may notice mild heat retention.
Edge Support
The Puffy Diamond Mattress lacks the edge support common in hybrid mattresses. Because its comfort system is quite thick, sleepers sink in deeply before reaching the support system. High-density foam wraps around the perimeter of the coil core for extra reinforcement, but our testers found that the comfort system’s significant compression may still create a sensation of instability.
Sleepers who share their bed with a partner could feel that this restricts the usable surface area since they’re likely to feel more secure closer to the center of the bed. Getting into or out of bed may also be more challenging if you feel unstable sitting along the perimeter.
Ease of Movement
Since the Puffy Diamond is a medium soft (4) model with a thick, conforming comfort system, our testers noted that it isn’t as easy to move on as most firmer hybrid models. Most sleepers sink in relatively deeply, impeding movement. The comfort system also retains a body impression for a moment when the sleeper moves, which may further inhibit position changes. While the coil core adds a bit of bounce, the plush comfort system limits the mattress’ overall responsiveness.
Sleepers who change positions frequently or experience mobility issues may feel like their motion is limited when sleeping on the Puffy Diamond.
Sex
Because the Puffy Diamond is plush and conforming, most people are unlikely to find it ideal for sex. While preferences are subjective, couples usually favor bouncy, responsive surfaces. The Puffy Diamond’s close hug and deep contouring could restrict movement, and the limited edge support may force couples toward the center of the bed.
Off-Gassing
Like any model that contains synthetic materials, the Puffy Diamond may emit off-gassing odors after you unpack it. Off-gassing occurs when a mattress releases volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are a standard byproduct of manufacturing foam.
The Puffy Diamond’s hybrid design allows enough airflow to help any odors dissipate relatively quickly. Depending on how well-ventilated your room is, most smells should air out within 72 hours.

The Puffy Diamond’s medium soft (4) feel and plush comfort system are well suited to most side sleepers. Side sleepers typically prioritize pressure relief because their shoulders and hips tend to dig into the surface more than other parts of their bodies. The Puffy Diamond provides exceptional pressure relief, molding to a side sleeper’s shoulder and hip to redistribute their weight and ease pressure.
Most side sleepers under 230 pounds experience a good balance of contouring and support on the Puffy Diamond. Those over 230 pounds are likely to sink in a bit more deeply around their hips and shoulders, which may negatively affect their posture.
Back Sleepers
Since back sleepers generally need more support and less contouring than side sleepers, the Puffy Diamond isn’t ideal for most who favor this position. Despite its zoned support, a back sleeper’s hips may sink in a little too deeply, potentially straining their lower back.
Those under 130 pounds are likely to get enough support to sleep comfortably. However, back sleepers over 130 pounds may notice more significant sagging around their hips, which may contribute to discomfort.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers need the most support to keep their spines in alignment, which the Puffy Diamond’s medium soft (4) feel and thick comfort system are unlikely to provide. While the mattress has zoned support, it may be difficult for stomach sleepers to relax their muscles as they try to maintain good posture, and sagging around their midsections could strain their lower backs.
A few stomach sleepers under 130 pounds may get the support they need, but most stomach sleepers of all weights would benefit from more support.
Puffy Diamond Mattress Review Breakdown
The Puffy Diamond is a luxury hybrid model with a medium soft (4) feel. At 16 inches thick, this high-profile mattress is likely to require deep pocket sheets.
A quilted fabric Euro-top cushions the surface, with layers of alpaca wool and fiber designed for plushness and temperature regulation. Next, a layer of memory foam cradles the sleeper’s body, and a layer of polyfoam provides extra cushioning. A 1-inch latex layer enhances air circulation and pushback. Another 2-inch layer of memory foam adds deeper contouring, while a zoned 3-inch polyfoam layer adds targeted support.
The mattress core uses 7.5 inches of pocketed coils for bounce and breathability. High-density foam wraps around the perimeter of the core to enhance the edge support and stabilize the surface. Finally, a grippy base cover helps prevent the mattress from shifting.
The mattress’ foam is CertiPUR-US certified, meaning a third party verifies that the material meets content and emissions standards.
As a luxury model, the Puffy Diamond Mattress carries a higher-than-average price tag. Because of its high-profile, multilayer design, it costs more than most mattresses to manufacture, which is reflected in the price-point. While this may deter some budget shoppers, it may be worth the investment for shoppers seeking an especially plush mattress.
The Puffy Diamond comes in twin XL, queen, king, California king, and split king sizes. Twin and full sizes are not available at this time.
