Side Sleepers

The Serta Perfect Sleeper X rates exceptionally well for side sleepers of all body types. The combination of pocketed coils and memory foam results in top-notch pressure relief and spinal support for these sleepers.

The Perfect Sleeper X includes two memory foam comfort layers, which contour to the shape of the body and helps prevent pressure points from developing. The pocketed coil core provides adequate support to help keep your spine aligned throughout the night.

The Plush option is highly rated by side sleepers who weigh up to 230 pounds, while those who weigh more than 230 pounds tend to prefer the Medium and Firm designs.

Back Sleepers

The Serta Perfect Sleeper X is suitable for most back sleepers. This type of sleeper typically requires a medium firm to firm mattress with moderate contouring. The Plush and Medium models are particularly suitable for those who weigh less than 130 pounds, while those who weigh more will likely find the Firm model to be a better fit.

When it comes to spinal alignment, support for the shoulders and lumbar region are among the most important factors for back sleepers to consider. The Serta Perfect Sleeper X combines memory foam and pocketed coils to provide the contouring and support needed for sleeping on your back.

While the comfort layers of memory foam are designed to contour to the shape of your body, the pocketed coil core provides ample support for the lumbar region.

Stomach Sleepers

Although the Serta Perfect Sleeper X rates well for stomach sleepers, there are a few additional considerations to keep in mind.

If you sleep on your stomach, the most common cause of pain is spinal misalignment from sinking into the mattress. The more your midsection presses into a mattress, the more likely it is that you will experience pressure on your lower back.

Stomach sleepers tend to do well with a firmer mattress that provides more support for the midsection, which helps keep the spine straight and prevents back pain. As a result, most stomach sleepers prefer the Serta Perfect Sleeper X in Medium or Firm. The memory foam comfort layers cushion the upper body, while preventing sleepers from sinking in too deeply.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

7.5 / 10

Plush: 8.5 / 10

Medium: 7 / 10

Firm: 6 / 10

The extent to which the Serta Perfect Sleeper X isolates motion will depend on the firmness level. The Plush model stands out with strong motion isolation, while the Medium and Firm models are more likely to transfer some movement.

This is a hybrid mattress that uses both memory foam and pocketed coils in its construction. While memory foam is known for its motion-isolating properties, the coils add bounce and may transfer movements like changing positions or getting in and out of bed.

The Plush model uses soft memory foam that is slower to return to its original shape when pressure is removed, and it absorbs and isolates movement well as a result. The Medium model performs on par with most hybrid models. The Firm model has a thinner memory foam comfort layer, which makes motion transfer from the coils more noticeable. The coils are pocketed to help minimize this effect.

Pressure Relief

8 / 10

Plush: 9 / 10

Medium: 7 / 10

Firm: 6.5 / 10

The hybrid construction of the Perfect Sleeper X helps relieve pressure points while promoting spinal alignment.

While the memory foam comfort layer cradles your body and contours to its shape to relieve pressure points, the pocketed coils provide robust support.

The Plush model rates exceptionally well for pressure relief. The softer foam comfort layer allows sleepers to sink into the mattress a bit more. It cushions areas like the shoulders and hips, where pressure is most likely to build.

The Medium and Firm models also provide pressure relief for sleepers, particularly those who weigh more than 130 pounds.

Temperature Control

8 / 10

Plush: 7 / 10

Medium: 8 / 10

Firm: 8.5 / 10

Hybrid mattresses tend to regulate temperature exceptionally well, as the pocketed coils circulate air and help dissipate heat. The comfort layers used in the mattress can affect temperature regulation.

While a mattress made entirely with foam is more likely to retain heat, using a thin layer of foam above pocketed coils allows for better airflow.

Since the Medium and Firm models do not contour closely, air can circulate around the body to help prevent the buildup of heat. The Plush version is softer and more conforming, and it may retain more heat than the firmer models.

Edge Support

7.5 / 10

Plush: 6.5 / 10

Medium: 8 / 10

Firm: 8.5 / 10

If you find yourself slipping off the edge of your mattress while sitting along the side, it is likely the result of poor edge support. The Serta Perfect Sleeper X offers edge support that greatly decreases or eliminates the feeling of rolling off the edge of the bed.

Serta uses a foam rail around the perimeter of the mattress to ensure better support. This design element is effective in each firmness level.

That said, the edges feel more supportive in the Medium and Firm models. Sleepers are likely to notice that the soft foam layer in the Plush model compresses slightly as they near the edge of the bed.

Ease of Movement

6 / 10

Plush: 6 / 10

Medium: 7.5 / 10

Firm: 7.5 / 10

Most sleepers should find it easy to move around on the Perfect Sleeper X.

Many people find that an all-foam mattress contours closely, and can restrict movement if the comfort layers are slow to return to their original shape. This can make movement from one side to the other a bit more difficult.

Pocketed coils provide extra bounce, making it easier to change positions or move around as needed. Hybrid mattresses like the Serta Perfect Sleeper X tend to balance ease of movement with motion isolation, due to the combination of coils and foam.

While memory foam isolates movement, pocketed coils provide additional bounce to prevent feeling restricted by the comfort layers.

Durability

7 / 10

The Serta Perfect Sleeper X should perform for 6 to 7.5 years, based on our detailed construction analysis. This estimated lifespan is on par with the average hybrid model. While firmness choice matters to an extent because a softer mattress will theoretically wear out before a firmer model, all three firmness levels share the same durability ratings.

Serta Perfect Sleeper X Hybrid Review Breakdown

The Serta Perfect Sleeper Mattress is available in multiple firmness levels, but the construction is mostly three same across all three options.

Each Perfect Sleeper X is constructed with two memory foam comfort layers. A cooling gel infusion in the first layer is intended to prevent heat retention on the surface and keep you cool. A transitional polyfoam layer offers additional cushioning, while also creating a buffer between your body and the support core.

The Perfect Sleeper X Hybrid’s pocketed coils are zoned to deliver extra reinforcement beneath the midsection. This feature is especially helpful if you deal with frequent back pain or hip pain. A breathable cover encases the mattress.
