Side Sleepers

Of all the sleeper types, side sleepers are the most prone to pressure points. A mattress with plenty of contouring can help prevent discomfort by redistributing weight. The Organic Latex Mattress’ does an excellent job preventing pressure buildup for side sleepers in each weight category as long as they choose the firmness that best corresponds with their body type.

The medium model is the most well rounded, accommodating side sleepers from all weight groups. Side sleepers under 130 pounds found the soft version also addressed their needs, while those over 230 pounds preferred the structured support of the firm option.

Back Sleepers

The best mattress for back sleepers balances spinal alignment and comfort. The Organic Latex Mattress helps evenly support the back without allowing excess pressure buildup beneath the midsection.

The latex’s responsive feel lends itself well to back sleeping, keeping the sleeper’s body comfortably supported atop the mattress. Back sleepers who don’t like the sensation of being enveloped by their mattress may appreciate this model’s bounce.

During our product testing, those under 130 pounds most enjoyed the soft and medium models, while the firm option offered better support for people over 130 pounds.

Stomach Sleepers

Overall, this mattress is better suited to back and side sleepers than to stomach sleepers. It’s not quite firm enough to offer the robust support that stomach sleepers need to keep their spines from curving uncomfortably.

However, the firm model has nearly optimal support for stomach sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds. Stomach sleepers under 130 pounds and over 230 pounds also frequently find the firm version comfortable. Its core is strong enough to prevent significant compression, while the comfort system slightly cushions the surface.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

6.5 / 10

9-Inch Models: 6 / 10

12-Inch Medium: 6 / 10

12-Inch Soft: 8 / 10

12-Inch Firm: 4 / 10

The Organic Latex Mattress’ motion isolation varies widely depending on the firmness level. Though all latex is naturally bouncy, firmer latex tends to allow more motion to transfer, while soft latex better absorbs movement.

People who wake easily from their partner’s movement should consider the soft or medium options, which were much more successful at isolating motion than the firm version in our tests.

The 12-inch soft model is the best at containing vibrations, performing comparably to leading memory foam mattresses. The medium version also provides above-average motion isolation, though very light sleepers may notice some movement.

The firm option is quite responsive and allows vibrations to transfer from one side of the bed to the other. This may be best for deep sleepers and those who don’t share a mattress.

Pressure Relief

6.5 / 10

Soft & Medium: 6 / 10

Firm: 4 / 10

Overall, the Organic Latex Mattress does an adequate job of relieving pressure. It has a slightly bouncy feel that pushes back against your body rather than molding to its shape. It’s a worthwhile option for people who want midrange pressure relief instead of the deep cradling of memory foam.

Our side-sleeping testers found that the soft and medium models are both comfortable options, as they contour more along pressure-prone areas. Side sleepers under 230 pounds may experience more pressure points on the firm option due to its sturdy support.

Temperature Control

8 / 10

Soft: 6 / 10

Medium & Firm: 8 / 10

Our in-house testing team enjoyed this model’s breathability. Hot sleepers found the medium and firm models especially cool.

Latex doesn’t retain heat as easily as most synthetic foam, which gives the Latex for Less Organic Mattress a natural advantage in temperature control. This model further enhances airflow by using small perforations within the latex. The cotton cover also lets air circulate, while the wool layer actively wicks away heat and moisture.

People in hot climates and those who want maximum cooling may prefer the firm model, which limits sinkage to enhance airflow around the body. The medium and soft versions absorb a bit more heat, though they still have better-than-average temperature regulation.

Edge Support

6.5 / 10

Soft: 4 / 10

Medium: 6 / 10

Firm: 8 / 10

The Organic Latex Mattress’ edge support varies significantly between firmness levels. The soft version lacks the rigidity necessary to support sleepers when they lie along the edge. Its layers compress easily, and our testers found the perimeter sags when weight is directly applied. This may make sleepers gravitate toward the center of the bed.

The medium model does a better job supporting sleepers along the edge. Its firmer latex formulation provides more even support, allowing sleepers to use more of the mattress surface.

Those who have a hard time getting in and out of bed may favor the firm model, which has robust support around the perimeter. Our testers noticed very little compression while sitting on the edge of the bed.

Ease of Movement

7.5 / 10

Soft: 6 / 10

Medium & Firm: 8 / 10

This mattress is an excellent pick for sleepers who like to sleep “on” rather than “in” their mattress. The latex’s natural buoyancy makes it easy to move around on.

Our sleep product experts noted that the medium and firm models are noticeably springier. Sleepers can easily move across the surface without feeling as if they’re sinking into the mattress core. While the soft version inhibits movement slightly, the latex’s bounce and quick response to changes in pressure facilitate position changes.

Off-Gassing

8 / 10

The Organic Latex Mattress is made from natural materials, thereby limiting the use of chemicals during the manufacturing process. While it may have a slight natural smell at first, it is free from the chemical odor of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) commonly associated with synthetic foam models.

Though foam off-gassing isn’t considered harmful, it can have an unpleasant smell that may irritate breathing passages. This makes the Organic Latex Mattress an excellent alternative for sleepers who are sensitive to strong odors.

Latex for Less Organic Latex Mattress Review Breakdown

The Latex for Less Organic Latex Mattress is available in three firmness levels and two profiles. Shoppers can choose between soft (3), medium (5), and firm (7) as well as 9- and 12-inch heights. The 9-inch models have two latex layers, while the 12-inch version has a third layer.

The mattress begins with a GOTS-certified organic cotton cover with a .5-inch layer of GOTS-certified organic wool underneath. The cotton is highly breathable, and the wool adds natural temperature-regulating and fire-resistant properties.

Each mattress has a 3-inch layer of Dunlop latex engineered to adapt to your body’s shape and relieve pressure. The 12-inch model also features an additional 3-inch Dunlop latex comfort layer for deeper contouring. Dunlop latex contours subtly while responding quickly to changes in pressure. This leads to a floating sensation.

The support core uses 6 inches of Dunlop latex for even, sag-resistant support. All of the latex in the mattress is GOLS-certified organic.
