Founded in 2019, Turmerry makes affordable natural and organic bedding products. The company specializes in latex mattresses, bases, pillows, and other sleep accessories. Several third-party certifications demonstrate Turmerry’s commitment to transparency and sustainability.

Turmerry offers three mattress models, all made with natural latex. The Natural and Organic Latex Mattress utilizes layers of zoned Dunlop latex to promote spinal alignment. Perforated latex and a cotton and wool cover are designed to dissipate heat.

The Turmerry Egg Crate Mattress is another all-latex model with four layers of Dunlop latex. An upper layer of egg crate latex combines pressure relief with ventilation. Both of Turmerry’s all-latex mattresses come in different height and firmness options.

We’ll review the Turmerry Latex Hybrid Mattress, the company’s only hybrid to date. It features a Talalay latex comfort system and a pocketed coil core. This model has a bouncier feel than Turmerry’s all-latex mattresses. Its medium (5) firmness is intended for all sleep positions.

We offer a breakdown of the mattress’ construction, pricing, and performance across a range of categories.

Side Sleepers

Our side sleepers in all weight groups found optimal pressure relief and support from the Turmerry Certified Organic Latex Hybrid Mattress. The latex’s even contouring aligned the spine, while the medium firmness allowed the hips and shoulders to comfortably sink. The cotton and wool layers gently padded the hips and shoulders.

The pocketed coil core prevented the hips from bottoming out, which was especially valuable to our side sleepers over 130 pounds. Testers who regularly alternate sides appreciated the springy surface.

Back Sleepers

The mattress’ moderate contouring suited our back sleepers under 230 pounds. The medium firmness promoted even spine alignment, while the sturdy pocketed coil core reinforced the torso area. Responsive latex and plush wool prevented pressure point formation at the shoulders and hips.

Support was lackluster for our back sleepers over 230 pounds. The comfort system bowed under the torso, shifting the spine out of alignment. These sleepers typically require a medium firm to firm mattress to support the lumbar region.

Stomach Sleepers

Our stomach sleepers had a similar experience on the mattress as our back sleepers. Its balanced contouring kept the shoulders and hips level for stomach sleepers up to 230 pounds. Those under 130 pounds gained extra pressure relief on their shoulders and hips from the soft wool comfort layers.

Stomach sleepers over 230 pounds had a harder time sustaining good sleep posture on the mattress. Its medium firmness didn’t counteract gravity’s force on the midsection. The torso sank too deeply into the comfort layers, straining the neck, shoulders, and lower back. Like our back sleepers over 230 pounds, they need a firmer model with minimal compression.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

6.5/10

Talalay latex is exceptionally springy, so our testing team observed a fair amount of surface bounce each time they moved. Motion transfer is most problematic if you share the bed and awaken easily.

The latex does absorb some motion, just not as much as other mattress materials. The upper wool layers help dampen movement, so surface vibrations aren’t extreme. Fabric-encased coils also limit motion transfer since they respond individually to movement.

That said, this mattress might not be ideal if you or your partner are high-movement sleepers. The same is true if energetic pets or kids occasionally share the bed with you.

Pressure Relief

6.5/10

We found that the mattress reduces pressure buildup for various types of sleepers. Talalay latex evenly conforms to sleepers without allowing deep sinkage. The upper cotton and wool layers offer mild pressure relief, while the responsive pocketed coil core promotes even spinal alignment.

The Organic Latex Hybrid performed well for most of our testers, except for our testers over 230 pounds. The medium firmness permitted excess sagging below the torso, creating an unnatural curve in the spine. This can lead to lower back strain and tension in the shoulders.

Temperature Control

9.5/10

Testing a mattress’ temperature control is crucial since many people tend to sleep hot. The Turmerry Latex Hybrid utilizes breathable materials that naturally dissipate heat. The cotton cover and upper wool layers draw heat and moisture away from the surface. Talalay latex has a ventilated cell structure that promotes cooling, while the pocketed coils promote airflow.

Since the latex doesn’t hug sleepers like memory foam, it’s less likely to restrict surface airflow. Sleepers over 230 pounds might experience some mild heat retention since they tend to sink deeper into a mattress.

Edge Support

8/10

We found the mattress has above average edge support for a hybrid, so sinkage near the perimeter is minimal. The sides are strengthened with sturdy Quantum coils, which makes sitting up in bed feel more stable.

Reinforced sides also give couples more space to spread out. The mattress’ top and bottom use Caliber springs, which are tempered steel coils that resist compression. This prevents surface warping if your pet sleeps at the foot of your bed.

Ease of Movement

8.5/10

The Organic Latex Hybrid is notably responsive, so our testers could move across the surface with ease. Movement doesn’t feel restricted since latex moderately contours the body. The medium firmness also ensures that most sleepers don’t sink excessively. Bounce from the pocketed coil core makes rolling over or getting in and out of bed easier.

We listen closely to the feedback of our combination sleepers in this category since they tend to make the most adjustments. They all felt the mattress’ responsive surface made changing positions easy and comfortable.

Off-Gassing

8.5/10

You might detect a faint rubber smell when the mattress is unboxed, but it should dissipate rather quickly. If you are sensitive to smells, we recommend placing the mattress in a well-ventilated area to air out before sleeping on it for the first time.

Turmerry Certified Organic Latex Hybrid Mattress Review Breakdown

The Turmerry Organic Latex Hybrid has a 10-inch profile and its medium firmness rates as 5 on our 10-point firmness scale. The organic cotton cover has a tight yet breathable weave.

Two layers of organic wool act as a natural flame barrier while also cushioning pressure points. They also regulate surface temperature since wool has heat- and moisture-wicking properties. Next is 2 inches of medium firm Talalay latex. Its responsive quality relieves pressure without overly conforming to sleepers’ bodies. A layer of breathable cotton buffers the comfort layers from the support core.

An 8-inch pocketed coil core adds bounce and stability. The reinforced perimeter is designed to reduce sagging near the edges, which helps if you like to sleep or sit on the sides of a bed. Each fabric-encased coil responds uniquely to weight, helping to reduce motion transfer. They also have an open structure that promotes airflow throughout the core. Organic wool and cotton base layers act as shock absorbers for the springs.

Global Organic Textile Standard certification shows that the cotton and wool were produced using organic standards. Similarly, the latex is Global Organic Latex Standard certified to meet organic standards and fair labor practices. A Forest Stewardship Council badge also verifies that the latex is sustainably sourced.

Mattress Prices and Sizing

Most queen size latex mattresses are between $1,500 and $3,500. The Turmerry Latex Hybrid is priced on the low end of this range, making it ideal for eco-conscious shoppers on a budget. Latex mattresses are typically high-end since latex is relatively expensive to manufacture. Mattress thickness, organic materials, cooling features, and brand recognition all influence pricing.

The mattress is 10 inches tall and comes in all six standard sizes.
