Sealy is one of the best-known names in the mattress industry. The company started in 1881 and was purchased by Tempur-Pedic in 2012 to form Tempur Sealy International, one of the largest mattress manufacturers in the world.

The company produces countless mattress models and other sleep products between its many brands, including bases, bedding, sleep accessories, and more. The Sealy brand itself produces multiple innerspring, all-foam, and hybrid models that vary in their prices, materials, constructions, and firmness levels.

Cocoon is a separate line by Sealy that includes a 10-inch all-foam model, the flagship Cocoon Chill, and a 12-inch hybrid model, the Cocoon Chill Hybrid. Both have a medium firm feel and are equipped with special cooling features designed to regulate sleep temperatures. However, while the Cocoon Chill uses a foam core, the Cocoon Chill Hybrid uses pocketed coils for enhanced bounce, breathability, and edge support.

We’ll break down the materials, construction, pricing, and sizing of the Cocoon Chill Hybrid Mattress. We’ll also analyze its performance to shed light on who it’s be best for and summarize company policies to give shoppers a clearer idea of what to expect. Read on to find out whether the Cocoon Chill Hybrid is the best mattress for you.

Side Sleepers

Side sleeping often leads to pressure buildup around the hips and shoulders due to the width of these critical areas. A mattress that molds to the sleeper’s body can help spread out their weight to relieve pressure. Thanks to its two layers of memory foam, the Cocoon Chill Hybrid shapes to a side sleeper’s curves for balanced support and conforming.

With its medium firm feel, the Cocoon Chill Hybrid should be exceptionally comfortable for side sleepers who weigh below 230 pounds since they should sink in the right amount for pressure relief and spinal support. This model should also relieve pressure points for those who weigh more than 230 pounds, though some in this weight group may struggle to keep their spines well aligned—the best mattresses for heavy sleepers are firmer.

Back Sleepers

Sleeping on the back is usually conducive to good spinal alignment as long as the mattress lets the hips sink in just a little without sagging. The Cocoon Chill Hybrid’s memory foam comfort and transition layers combine contouring and support, which should gently cradle a back sleeper’s hips while preventing excessive sinkage. The supportive coil layer further limits sagging.

As a medium firm model, the Cocoon Chill should easily adjust to the shape of a back sleeper who weighs under 230 pounds to support proper spinal alignment. The hips of some back sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds could sink in farther than ideal and put some pressure on the lower back.

Stomach Sleepers

Most people carry much of their body weight around their hips and bellies. When sleeping on the stomach, this weight often pulls the middle of the body too deeply into the mattress, putting pressure on the lumbar area. The Cocoon Chill Hybrid’s memory foam comfort and transition layers soften the feel of the sleep surface while providing support, making the bed comfortable for many stomach sleepers.

Those who weigh below 230 pounds will likely experience the best mixture of cushioning and support. Stomach sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds shouldn’t struggle to keep their spines well aligned, but the medium firm feel could seem a bit too sturdy to them. Individuals who weigh over 230 pounds may have more difficulty keeping their spines well aligned due to sinkage around their hips and stomachs.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

6.5/10

The Cocoon Chill Hybrid Mattress has two layers of memory foam that can absorb vibrations that may otherwise spread from one side of the bed to the other. This can help couples get a more restful night’s sleep by limiting nighttime disturbances when one partner moves.

Since the pocketed coil core adds springiness to the bed, it could contribute to slight motion transfer. However, the coils are separate from each other and wrapped individually to reduce the spread of vibrations.

This level of motion isolation is on par with most hybrid models.

Pressure Relief

7.5/10

Like many hybrid models that use memory foam, the Cocoon Chill Hybrid’s close conforming can help ease sharp pressure points by redistributing the sleeper’s weight. A 1-inch memory foam comfort layer cushions and cradles the sleeper’s curves, while the 2.25-inch memory foam transition layer gives deeper contouring.

Pressure relief also varies depending on an individual’s body type and sleep position. The Cocoon Chill Hybrid’s medium firm feel is likely to provide the most significant pressure relief for side sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds.

Temperature Control

7/10

Many hybrid models tend to sleep cool thanks to their breathable designs, but the Cocoon Chill Hybrid takes this to the next level with its cooling cover. Proprietary phase change material is designed to absorb and release heat for a more even temperature. Air can also circulate through the Cocoon Chill Hybrid’s coil core so that warmth can escape. This may help hot sleepers stay cool and comfortable throughout the night.

Edge Support

7/10

A supportive edge can extend the usable area by making it feel secure enough to use the full surface of the mattress. Hybrid models often have reinforced perimeters, and the Cocoon Chill Hybrid follows this trend. Narrower coils wrap around all four sides of the mattress for a sturdy feel with limited sinkage. Most individuals should be able to sit or sleep near the edge without feeling like they may slide off due to the compression.

Ease of Movement

6/10

The Cocoon Chill Hybrid’s medium firm feel and responsive coil core earn it strong marks for ease of movement. While the memory foam comfort and transition layers hug closely to the body and are slower to respond to changes in pressure, the coil core balances this tendency with its springy feel. The firmness level further adds to the effect by limiting excessive sinkage.

Overall, the Cocoon Chill Hybrid is likely to be a bit easier to move on than most other medium firm hybrid models. Sleepers should be able to move across the surface without feeling trapped in the bed.

Off-Gassing

6.5/10

Synthetic foam may have odors that linger after manufacturing, and these can become trapped in the mattress when it ships compressed. Like other models that contain synthetic foam, the Cocoon Chill Hybrid may have an initial “new mattress” smell. Airflow through the coil core should help odors dissipate more quickly, but those who are sensitive to smells might choose to leave their mattress in a separate room until it has sufficient time to air out. This process should be mostly complete within a week.

Cocoon Chill Hybrid Mattress Review Breakdown

The Cocoon Chill Hybrid Mattress is a hybrid model that combines a foam comfort system with a pocketed coil support core. It has a medium firm feel, rating around 6 out of 10, which is in the average range most sleepers tend to prefer.

Four distinct layers make up the mattress. The comfort layer uses 1 inch of Perfect Fit memory foam, and the transition layer uses 2.25 more inches of the same material. This premium foam adapts to the sleeper’s shape to cushion the body, relieve pressure, and support the spine.

The support system uses 8 inches of coils that add bounce and breathability. Each spring is individually wrapped in fabric to reduce the spread of motion and allow them to move independently for targeted support. The perimeter is lined with narrower coils to give the edge a sturdy feel. A final .75-inch layer of polyfoam rests at the base for durable, resilient structural support.

Proprietary phase change material in the stretch knit mattress cover is engineered to absorb and redistribute heat to prevent dips and spikes in your overnight temperature while remaining cool to the touch.

Trial, Warranty, and Shipping Policies

Availability

While many Sealy products are available through third-party retailers, including furniture, mattress, and department stores, the Cocoon Chill Hybrid Mattress is currently sold exclusively through the Cocoon by Sealy website. It is available within the United States.

Shipping

Sealy typically processes orders within 48 hours on business days. Mattresses are delivered via UPS and typically arrive in 5 to 7 days. Standard ground shipping is free within the United States, and expedited shipping may be available for an additional fee. Customers receive a tracking number so that they can anticipate the date of arrival.

The mattress arrives at the owner’s home compressed, wrapped in plastic, and encased in a box. The delivery team leaves the package at the door or wherever you receive large items, and the customer usually does not need to be home for delivery. It is the owner’s responsibility to move the package into their room of choice and set it up. To unpack the bed, slide the compressed mattress out of the box, place it on the foundation, remove the tape to separate the wrapper, and let the mattress expand.

Additional Services

Sealy does not currently offer White Glove delivery or old mattress removal with the Cocoon Chill Hybrid Mattress.

Sleep Trial

The company recommends trying the bed for at least 30 nights to adjust. If you’re not satisfied with the mattress, Sealy will try to resolve any issues. If you’re still unsatisfied during the first 100 days, you can return the mattress for a full refund of the purchase price. Sealy will arrange for its pickup and donation.

Warranty

Owners who bought their Cocoon Chill Hybrid from Sealy or an authorized retailer are eligible for a 10-year limited warranty. This policy covers faulty workmanship and materials, including visible indentations greater than 1 inch and physical flaws that cause the mattress cover to tear.

Should Sealy determine there is an eligible defect, it will elect to either repair or replace the mattress. The purchaser is responsible for transportation costs.

The use of an inappropriate foundation voids the warranty. Damage resulting from abuse is not covered. Additional terms and conditions apply.
