The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress adds to Saatva’s growing lineup with a foam hybrid construction featuring a neutral feel.

The Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress has a quilted organic cotton cover, a layer of convoluted memory foam, and pocketed steel coils. Thicker quilting and a dedicated strip of gel-infused memory foam in the center third of the mattress provide extra cooling and zoned lumbar support. The mattress has a medium firm feel, falling at a 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale. Its relatively plush surface helps prevent pressure points while the coils generate strong support.

Saatva has an established reputation in the online mattress space. It’s best known for its flagship innerspring model, the Saatva Classic, one of our winners for the best mattress of the year. The company also makes the Saatva Latex Hybrid, the flippable Zenhaven Latex Mattress, the memory foam Loom & Leaf, and an adjustable airbed mattress called the Solaire. For younger sleepers, Saatva offers the Crib Mattress and the dual-sided Saatva Youth. The company’s sturdiest model, the hybrid Saatva HD, is designed for heavier sleepers weighing up to 500 pounds.

We’ll discuss the construction and performance of the Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress to help you decide if this option from Saatva is the right model for you. We’ll also provide practical information on the company’s sleep trial, warranty, and shipping policies.

Side Sleepers:

With comfort layers made entirely of memory foam, the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress is ideal for side sleepers.

The quilted cover provides initial cushioning, and the ridged surface of the convoluted memory foam is designed to enhance pressure relief. The memory foam cradles the hips and shoulders and reduces the pressure that can sometimes build up in these contact points.

Side sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds exert just the right amount of pressure on the mattress to receive a strong balance of pressure relief and support. Those who weigh under 130 pounds and over 230 pounds should still find the bed very comfortable, though lighter side sleepers may prefer a softer mattress and heavier side sleepers may benefit from a firmer surface.

Back Sleepers

The Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress performs well for many back sleepers, particularly those weighing up to 230 pounds. Back sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds may need a firmer mattress to receive proper support.

For back sleepers, a moderate firmness level is usually best, especially for those who are needing a mattress to solve back pain issues. A certain level of cushioning can reduce pressure buildup, but the mattress must also be firm enough to encourage neutral spinal alignment. This model falls in the middle of the firmness scale, providing strong levels of both pressure relief and support.

The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress also includes thoughtfully placed padding in the lower back area. These materials support the lumbar spine to help sleepers maintain a healthy posture.

Stomach Sleepers:

Most stomach sleepers should receive adequate support from the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress, though it’s best suited for those who weigh less than 230 pounds.

Sleeping face down can sometimes cause the midsection to sag into the mattress. This can strain the lower back and lead to pressure buildup, which is why stomach sleepers require a firmer surface to keep the spine aligned.

Although the Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress has a contouring surface, the medium firm feel and coil system keep the midsection from sinking in too much. Additionally, the lumbar layer buoys the midsection to prevent excessive sinkage. As a result, stomach sleepers should generally find the mattress suitable for their needs. Those over 230 pounds may find the bed too soft to keep the body on an even plane.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

6.5/10

Despite its coil system, the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress isolates motion more effectively than other hybrid models. This is due in large part to the comfort system’s memory foam comfort layer.

Memory foam is known for its ability to mold to a sleeper’s body in response to pressure, thus preventing movement from rippling across the surface. As a result, mattresses with memory foam comfort layers tend to isolate motion well. The innerspring coils do generate some bounce, so sleepers who are sensitive to their partner’s movements may want to look for an all-foam mattress.

Pressure Relief

7/10

The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress delivers above-average pressure relief, particularly for individuals with lower back pain.

Components such as convoluted memory foam contour to the sleeper, and the gel-infused memory foam layer in the center third of the mattress balances support and cushioning for the lower lumbar area. This helps maintain spinal alignment while also reducing pressure buildup in this sensitive area. The coils respond to your body’s movements to gently cradle heavier areas.

With its medium firm feel, the Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress provides the best pressure relief for side sleepers. These individuals are prone to pressure points in the hips and shoulders, and they usually feel most comfortable on a medium to medium firm mattress.

Temperature Control

8/10

Various features in the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress are intended to optimize temperature control and reduce heat retention.

The coils in the support core allow for ample airflow throughout the mattress. Although the memory foam comfort system conforms closely to the sleeper, which can lead to trapped heat, the cotton cover provides a breathable sleep surface. The convoluted design of the memory foam retains less heat than solid foam, since it contains multiple channels where air can flow through. The memory foam strip also contains gel infusions designed to draw heat away from the sleeper.

Hot sleepers generally fare better with a hybrid or innerspring model, so the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress may be a viable option as one of the best cooling mattresses for those who enjoy beds with a foam surface.

Edge Support

8/10

The Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress provides very good edge support. With memory foam on the surface, sleepers can expect the perimeter to compress to a moderate degree under pressure. However, the coil support core lends support to the perimeter. In addition, rails composed of high-density foam provide dedicated edge support.

Ease of Movement

7.5/10

While the memory foam comfort layers and medium firm feel allow sleepers to sink in somewhat, the coil system in the Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress is bouncy and responsive. This allows you to move around the bed surface without feeling as “stuck” as you would on a bed made entirely of foam.

Although memory foam is slow to regain its original shape after you lie on it, adjusting positions should be easier than on an all-foam mattress.

Off-Gassing

8.5/10

Like most mattresses that contain foam, this Saatva model may emit a slight odor when it is first unboxed. Known as off-gassing, this scent occurs when volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the foams are released into the air.

The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress carries a seal from CertiPUR-US confirming that its VOC levels fall within established safety limits. Off-gassing odors usually dissipate over the course of a few days, provided the mattress is aired out in a well-ventilated space. However, those who are sensitive to smell may want to avoid sleeping on the mattress during the off-gassing process.

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress Review Breakdown

The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress has a breathable organic cotton cover that is quilted with foam and treated with antimicrobials. Additional quilting in the center third of the cover is designed for enhanced lumbar support. Instead of chemicals, Saatva includes a nontoxic thistle and wool flame barrier to meet fire safety regulations.

A half-inch strip of gel-infused memory foam in the lumbar area balances additional support to the lower back with gentle pressure relief. This layer is also intended to protect against body impressions. The main part of the comfort system contains a 1.5-inch layer of convoluted memory foam. Featuring a channeled wave design, this layer adds contouring and provides space for airflow.

An 8-inch pocketed coil support core generates sturdy support and responds to the body for gentle pressure relief. The coils enable strong air flow to trap less heat within the bed.

Measuring 11.5 inches thick with a medium firm (6) feel, the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress has a plush surface but its innerspring core prevents excessive sinkage.

Saatva uses foams that are certified by CertiPUR-US, an independent organization that tests for levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), heavy metals, and other harmful substances. The mattress holds a seal of approval from the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations, indicating it is considered supportive for people with back pain.

Mattress Prices and Sizing

Additions such as targeted lumbar support, a natural flame barrier, and gel-infused memory foam justify the slightly higher price-point of the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress. When considering that the cost of White Glove delivery and old mattress removal are built into the price of the bed, the mattress falls more in line with competing hybrid models. These services are usually offered for at least $100 from most online mattress companies.

The Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress comes in six standard sizes as well as split king. Shoppers can add a foundation or other bedding at the time of purchase for an additional cost.
