The Beautyrest brand dates back to 1925 and is a part of Simmons Bedding Company. The first Beautyrest mattress helped upgrade the traditional innerspring mattress by introducing the pocketed coil design.
Today, Beautyrest has an online store, and Beautyrest mattresses are also sold at various storefronts across the U.S. Beautyrest currently offers two collections: Beautyrest Black and Beautyrest Harmony. Both product lines involve multiple mattress models with optional upgrades to include additional materials or layers.
In the Harmony collection, all mattresses are encased in sustainable fabric made from reclaimed ocean plastic. The standard Harmony Mattress has a hybrid design with multiple foam comfort layers and is intended to deliver quality performance at an accessible price. Other mattresses in the Harmony line, including the Lux Hybrid, Lux Diamond, and Lux Carbon, have higher price-points but come with added features and a wider range of materials in their construction.
The Beautyrest Harmony is offered in two models, Plush and Extra Firm, that feature similar materials but have some notable differences in performance. Both models include free shipping, White Glove delivery and installation, and old mattress removal.
We’ll delve into the Harmony Mattress’ materials, pricing, and performance so you can decide whether a Beautyrest Harmony Mattress is the best mattress for your needs.
The Beautyrest Harmony Mattress is available in two firmness options. The Plush model rates as a medium (5) on our 10-point firmness scale, and the Extra Firm corresponds to a rating of firm (9) on our scale. Your sleep position, body weight, and personal preference will determine the best firmness choice for you.
- Choose Plush if… you’re a side sleeper or weigh less than 230 pounds, as the thicker comfort system delivers ample cushioning to sensitive pressure points. Deeper cradling alleviates tension in the body, and the substantial foam layers help isolate motion, reducing disturbances for couples.
- Choose Extra Firm if… you’re a back or stomach sleeper. The sturdier surface prevents the midsection from sinking too deeply into the mattress. The Extra Firm also offers more bounce and extra edge support, and our tests found it gave greater overall support to most sleepers over 230 pounds.

Answer a few questions to find the right mattress for your unique needs
Sleeping Style and Body Weight
Side Sleepers
The best mattresses for side sleepers generally have softer surfaces that ease pressure around the hips and shoulders. With a cushy comfort system, we found the Plush Harmony Mattress was a good fit for side sleepers, particularly those between 130 and 230 pounds.
The Extra Firm model received below-average scores for this sleeper type. An exceptionally firm surface permits minimal sinkage, so some side sleepers in our testing experienced pressure points in the hips and shoulders. However, side sleepers over 230 pounds found the Extra Firm version comfortable as the firmer materials prevented excess sinkage and promoted spine alignment.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers are usually comfortable on a mattress that is not too soft and blends moderate contouring with responsiveness. We found that both firmness options promoted even spine alignment for most back sleepers regardless of weight. The mattress uses stronger coils in the center section to minimize compression below the lumbar region, which is where back sleepers require more support.
The Plush model is an exceptionally good match for back sleepers under 130 pounds since it provides contouring and enough support to keep these sleepers on top of the mattress. The best mattresses for heavier sleepers are usually pretty firm. Back sleepers over 230 pounds receive the most support from the Extra Firm model.
Stomach Sleepers
Our testing team found that stomach sleepers generally enjoy the support provided by both models. A sturdy support core of pocketed coils keeps the softer comfort layers from sagging under the abdomen, helping the spine stay level.
The Plush mattress properly supports the midsection for stomach sleepers under 230 pounds, although some may find it to be too soft. Stomach sleepers over 230 pounds might experience too much sinking and insufficient support on the Plush model. Because of its firm feel and moderate contouring, the Extra Firm version delivers solid support for stomach sleepers in all weight categories and matches up particularly well for most stomach sleepers over 230 pounds.
Mattress Performance
In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.
Beautyrest Harmony Mattress Review Breakdown
Beautyrest’s Harmony Mattress is a hybrid model available in two firmness levels, Plush and Extra Firm. Both versions feature the same basic design, but the Plush uses thicker and softer foams in its comfort layers.
The comfort system starts with three layers of distinct foams intended to boost the mattress’ pressure relief. The foam’s open-cell structure and gel and charcoal infusions are designed to minimize heat buildup. A thin layer of memory foam provides contouring to alleviate tension, and a firmer polyfoam layer underneath helps prevent sleepers from sinking too deeply into the mattress.
The Harmony’s support core incorporates pocketed coils that are engineered to resist deep compression, especially in the center of the mattress and around the edges, which are reinforced with dense foam. The independent movement of each coil makes the support core better suited to adapt to each sleeper’s pressure points and helps limit motion transfer.
The Harmony Mattress features a cooling Tencel cover with paneling made of Seaqual, a type of polyester made from recycled plastic bottles. The Plush model has a medium (5) feel and is 13.5 inches thick, while the Extra Firm is 13 inches tall and rates as a 9 on our 10-point firmness scale.
For an additional cost, shoppers can upgrade to one of two Emerald Bay editions. One version uses foam with extra cooling features, has a medium (5) feel, and is 15 inches tall. The second option is 16.5 inches tall and includes cooling upgrades and a plush pillow-top for a medium soft (4) feel.
