One of the earliest bed-in-a-box companies, Nest Bedding now makes a range of sleep products including bedding, mattress toppers, dog beds, and bed frames. The company puts an emphasis on sustainable materials where possible. Currently, Nest Bedding offers the following mattresses: Love & Sleep, All Latex, Natural Hybrid Latex, Certified Organic Hybrid Latex, Big Kid’s Bed, Alexander Signature Hybrid, and the Alexander Signature Series Flippable mattress.
The Alexander Signature Series mattress is Nest Bedding’s only flippable bed, with a medium surface on one side and a firm surface on the other side. Designed to appeal to a wide variety of sleepers, the mattress features an all-foam design with multiple layers of polyfoam and gel memory foam wrapped in an organic cotton cover. The mattress is 13 inches tall in total.
We’ll walk you through the nuts and bolts of the Alexander Signature Series mattress, including specs, sleeper ratings, and other buyer considerations, to help you decide if the mattress is right for you.
The Nest Bedding Alexander Signature Series Mattress is a 13-inch flippable memory foam mattress. This is quite tall for an all-foam mattress, leaving room for a full support core plus a thick comfort section on one side of the bed. Customers may need to purchase deep-pocketed sheets.
The mattress has a breathable cover made of organic knit cotton, and uses a hydrated silica fire barrier instead of flame-retardant chemicals. As the mattress is quite heavy, Nest Bedding has included sewn-in handles to make it easier to flip.
This mattress was formerly sold as two separate models, but these have now been combined into the current flippable design with a different firmness level on each side. One side is medium and the other firm, equating to a 5 and a 7-8 out of 10 on a scale of 1 to 10.
Both sides have a primary comfort layer quilted with 1 inch of CoolFlow memory foam. This foam is quite soft and provides initial contouring as sleepers first lie down.
The medium side has an additional comfort layer consisting of 2 inches of gel memory foam, which is even softer than the CoolFlow. This foam has a fairly low density of 3.5 pounds per cubic foot (PCF). Its low density and gel infusions give it a quicker response to pressure and help it stay cooler than traditional memory foam.
Beneath this is a 2-inch layer of high-density polyfoam. This firmer foam helps ease the transition onto the support core.
Shared between both sides, the support core is 7 inches thick and made of high-density polyfoam. This foam is slightly denser than most foam mattress cores and we expect it to have better-than-average durability.
Altogether, the thicker comfort layer section on the medium side provides deeper cradling and pressure relief, allowing sleepers to nestle down and sleep “in” instead of “on” the mattress. In contrast, the firm side keeps sleepers firmly “on” the mattress, with the thin quilted foam on the firm side helping to relieve some pressure points before offering firmer support.
The mattress is made in the USA and all foams are CertiPUR-US certified, which means they are low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and free of harmful substances like formaldehyde and oxygen depleters.
The Alexander Signature Series mattress has five layers in total. The firm side has a quilted comfort layer followed by the shared polyfoam support core, while the medium side has a quilted comfort layer and two additional comfort layers before the support core.

The Alexander Signature Series mattress is priced near the upper end of the average price range for an all-foam mattress. This is understandable given that the mattress has a higher profile and more layers than most competing mattresses. Due to its high-density support core and good-quality foams, most shoppers should find that the investment is worth the money. Nest Bedding also offers occasional discounts that can lower the price by about 20 percent.
The mattress is available in all the standard mattress sizes, including a split king and a split California king.

Medium Side: 4/5, Firm Side: 2/5
The firm side of the Alexander Signature Series mattress allows some motion transfer, but the medium side does a very good job of ensuring little movement is felt on the other side of the bed.
Memory foam typically performs well on motion isolation because of the material’s ability to contour locally. The thicker comfort layer section on the medium side includes memory foam as well as a transitional layer. These contribute to help minimize overnight disruptions when sharing the bed with a partner.
Firmer foams tend to perform less well on motion transfer. Since the firm side only has one inch of plush foam before the firmer support core, people who choose this side may find the mattress isn’t completely able to prevent motion from transferring across the surface of the bed.
Medium Side: 4/5, Firm Side: 3/5
Both sides of the Nest Bedding Alexander Signature Series mattress provide adequate pressure relief.
Mattresses that conform more closely generally do a better job of relieving pressure points, and the thick foams in the medium side conform to relieve pressure points in side sleepers and those who weigh less than 130 pounds.
The firm side has minimal contouring yet still manages to prevent pressure build-up. The layer of quilted foam alleviates the sharpest pressure points, while the firmer support core helps distribute body weight in stomach sleepers and those who weigh more than 230 pounds.
Medium Side: 3/5, Firm Side: 4/5
The Alexander Signature Series mattress features breathable components that reduce the heat retention typically found in all-foam mattresses.
Foam mattresses don’t allow room for airflow through the coils like a hybrid, or feature an open-cell composition like latex. This makes them more vulnerable to heat retention, and they tend to be the worst choice for sleepers who run hot.
The Alexander Signature Series mattress therefore stands out for its better-than-average temperature control, encouraging airflow with a breathable cover and lower-density foams. As sleepers mainly sleep “on” and not “in” the firm side of the mattress, body heat is able to dissipate before getting trapped in the foam. In turn, the medium side compensates for its tighter hug by incorporating gel infusions designed to draw heat away from the sleeper.
Those who sleep hot at night should be content with either side, as both perform better than the average all-foam mattress.
Medium Side: 2/5, Firm Side: 3/5
The Nest Bedding Alexander Signature Series doesn’t have reinforced edges, and some people may find that the perimeter compresses considerably when sleeping near or sitting on the edge of the bed. This is common of all-foam mattresses, which lack the sturdy coils of a hybrid or innerspring model.
Compression around the perimeter is especially pronounced on the medium side due to its thick comfort layer section. As the firm side is mostly composed of the high-density support core, most people should be able to sleep right up to the edge of the bed without feeling unstable.
Edge support is also important for people who share the bed, as it allows both partners to spread out instead of crowding toward the middle of the mattress. Couples and sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds may prefer the greater stability of the firm side.
Medium Side: 3/5, Firm Side: 4/5
Thanks to the quilted layer of airy polyfoam, sleepers should have no trouble switching positions on the Nest Bedding Alexander Signature Series mattress. This is especially true of the firm side with its minimal contouring.
Closer-conforming mattresses are usually slow to regain their shape, which can impede movement and lead to the feeling of being trapped in the mattress. The Alexander Signature Series mattress gets around this problem by including a top layer of foam with a relatively quick response to pressure. This shields sleepers from the slower-responding memory foam on the medium side, and enables nearly unrestricted movement on the firm side.
The Alexander Signature Series mattress doesn’t have the bounce of a hybrid or latex model, but most couples should find it adequate for sex.
In addition to the traction provided by the foam layers, the mattress allows unimpeded movement and has decent edge support, especially on the firm side. This allows couples to use the full bed without fear of falling off. Additional benefits include temperature control, keeping the mattress cooler than its competitors, and the lack of noise, which helps keep things subtle.
Virtually every foam mattress gives off a “new mattress smell” when it is first unboxed, and the Alexander Signature Series mattress is no exception.
The odor is the result of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) being released into the air. This is generally not considered harmful, and the smell usually dissipates within a few days as long as the mattress is in a well-ventilated area. All the foams used by Nest Bedding are CertiPUR-US certified, which guarantees that they are low in VOCs.
Most side sleepers should find the medium side of the Alexander Signature Series to be the most comfortable. Side sleepers regularly experience pressure points in the hips and shoulders, which is why they tend to prefer plusher mattresses that cushion these areas. The multiple layers of soft foams on the medium side conform closely to alleviate pressure points in these spots.
This contouring is particularly helpful for sleepers who weigh less than 230 pounds. These sleepers don’t usually put as much pressure on the mattress and as a result, they can experience pressure build-up in mattresses that fail to support the lower back. The medium side hugs the body more closely, reducing pressure in the lumbar area and helping keep the spine on an even plane.
In contrast, the firm side provides minimal contouring and will cause sore hips and shoulders in side sleepers under 230 pounds. Side sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds may have better luck, as these sleepers usually find surfaces to be subjectively plusher.
Between the two sides of the Alexander Signature Series mattress, back sleepers of all body types should be able to find something that suits them.
Back sleeping naturally aligns the spine, so all that’s needed to maintain this healthy position is a balance of support and pressure relief. Sleepers under 130 pounds are likely to find this balance on the medium side. Since this group doesn’t sink as far into the mattress, they benefit from a plusher surface that provides more cushioning.
Meanwhile, most sleepers over 230 pounds will prefer the firm side. This group needs a firmer surface to prevent sagging under the midsection, which can cause back pain. Back sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds can use either side depending on whether they prefer a softer or firmer mattress.
The firm side of the Alexander Signature Series mattress lends itself well to stomach sleepers of all body types. Mattresses that are too plush don’t provide adequate support for the hips, and this can put strain on the lower back. The Alexander Signature Series firm side keeps the hips level with the rest of the body to prevent this from happening.
Stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds have an even more comfortable surface on the medium side, which also keeps the body aloft and reduces pressure to boot. Unfortunately, this side is too plush for sleepers over 130 pounds, who don’t receive enough support to keep the spine aligned.

The Alexander Signature Series mattress comes with a 100-night sleep trial. Nest Bedding encourages customers to try both sides of the mattress before returning it, and imposes a mandatory break-in period of 30 nights. Where possible, the company works with customers to find an alternative before resorting to a refund. Customers who return the mattress before the 30 nights are up will be responsible for a 25 percent restocking fee.
Once the return process is started, customers must complete it within 30 days. This is done either through donation, disposal, or pick-up. In all cases, the mattress must be in good condition with no stains or other damage. Those who wish can donate the mattress themselves to a local charity and provide a receipt as proof. A maximum of one mattress return per customer, per year is permitted.
Customers who are interested in exchanging their current mattress for a different model from Nest Bedding should purchase the new model, then send in the original one to receive the refund within the terms of the sleep trial.
Nest Bedding offers a lifetime limited non-prorated warranty against manufacturing and workmanship defects for the original purchaser of the mattress. To qualify for warranty coverage, customers must unbox the mattress within 30 days of receiving it.
The warranty covers indentations of at least 1 inch and manufacturing flaws in the cover or zipper. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear or mattresses that have been misused, abused, or used without a proper foundation as defined in the warranty terms. Nor does the warranty cover minor imperfections, stains, tears, or burns, mold growth that is due to improper storage or use, personal comfort preferences, allergies or normal odors from the mattress, damage caused by children, animals, or rodents, or mattresses purchased from a non-authorized distributor.
To file a warranty claim, customers must provide the order number, customer’s name, and photo or video evidence of the problem. Mattresses that are deemed defective will be repaired or replaced with the most similar model available at Nest Bedding’s discretion.
