Our team at Sleep Foundation conducts extensive hands-on tests for each mattress to provide you with the most reliable, data-driven recommendations and reviews. Below are key guidelines that inform our testing methodology:
Our testers lie on the surface of each mattress to evaluate factors such as contouring and support. We also use specialized tools to measure performance criteria like pressure relief, heat retention, and motion isolation.
We test each mattress using various sleep positions to observe whether a mattress is better suited for side, back, or stomach sleeping. We roll around the surface and sit on the edges to gauge ease of movement and perimeter support.
We have tested hundreds of mattresses and bring years of experience in the mattress industry to the test lab. Our testing team covers a wide range of sleep preferences, sleep positions, and body types. This helps us represent as many sleeper types as possible in our reviews.
Firmness Options: Medium (5), Medium Firm (6), Firm (7)
Who It’s Best For: Side sleepers, back sleepers over 230 lbs., stomach sleepers under 230 lbs.

Testing Team Takeaways
To test the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Mattress, we had three people on our testing team each take the bed home with them for one week. Here are their initial observations.

For me as a side sleeper, the medium firm option hit the sweet spot. It cushioned my shoulders without letting me sink in too far. I noticed very little motion transfer, which made it easy to stay asleep even when there was movement on the other side of the bed.

Switching between my side and back felt smooth on the Sapira Chill, especially with the firmer model. I also stayed cool through the night, which doesn’t always happen for me on mattresses with thick foam layers.

On the firm model, I appreciated the extra pushback, and I still felt well-cushioned around my hips and shoulders. The mattress gave me steady support, and I woke up without aches or muscle strains.

Side Sleepers
Our testing team found that the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid is a great fit for side sleepers, especially since they can choose a firmness option that most effectively supports their body weight.
The foam layers cushion joints like the hips and shoulders with a “just right” amount of contouring. As a result, we found very little pressure buildup or excess sinkage.
In our tests, the medium (5) and medium firm (6) models were best for side sleepers who weigh under 230 pounds. These sleepers can choose between these models based on their individual comfort preferences. Side sleepers over 230 pounds were most comfortable on the firm (7) model, which provided a bit more bounce and pushback.
Back Sleepers
We found that the medium firm (6) and firm (7) versions of the Sapira Chill worked well for back sleepers weighing up to 230 pounds.
The back sleepers on our testing team liked how the foam accommodated the curve of the lower back and reduced strain around the lumbar region. They found that the firmer models offered a stable sleep surface without too much sagging or sinkage.
While back sleepers over 230 pounds received sufficient support from the medium firm (6) and firm (7) models, these sleepers said that they would have preferred a bit more support. The medium (5) model was too plush for most back sleepers, especially those over 230 pounds.
Stomach Sleepers
During our tests, the Sapira Chill Hybrid was most popular among stomach sleepers up to 230 pounds. Most of these sleepers agreed that the firm (7) model was most supportive.
Stomach sleepers typically need a firmer mattress with an even surface in order to keep their spine aligned. For that reason, the stomach sleepers on our testing team gave below-average scores to the medium (5) model.
In contrast, the firm (7) version resisted sinkage and had enough bounce to support proper spinal alignment for stomach sleepers of 230 pounds or less. For stomach sleepers with a higher body weight, none of the three models felt sturdy and firm enough for optimal support.
Performance Ratings
In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.
Motion Isolation

/ 10
Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid – Plush:8.5 / 10
Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid – Medium Firm:7 / 10
Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid – Firm:7 / 10
“The foam in the Sapira Chill Hybrid keeps motion transfer to a minimum. On the plush model, I hardly noticed movement happening on the other side of the bed.” – Jeremy
In our tests, the Sapira Chill Hybrid’s foam-heavy comfort system effectively absorbed most motion. Our testers detected very little movement when another person shifted positions or got out of bed.
All of our team members agreed that motion isolation was best on the softest model, which has a firmness level of medium (5). On the other models, a bit of vibration was noticeable, but our testers still felt that this hybrid mattress would work well for most couples.
Pressure Relief
8.5
/ 10
“The Sapira Chill Hybrid really shines when it comes to pressure relief. For me, the different types of foam worked in conjunction to keep my body’s weight supported and my spine aligned.” – Brad
All three firmness options for the Sapira Chill earned standout scores for pressure relief. Each model has something to offer depending on your body weight and sleep position. Regardless of the firmness level, the hybrid design of the Sapira Chill – with its sturdy coils and multiple layers of foam – keeps pressure from building up in the shoulders, lower back, hips, and other sensitive areas of the body.
Our side sleepers reported significant cushioning in the hips and shoulders, and back and stomach sleepers said that the firmer models provided a nice balance of support and contouring. Overall, this mattress reduced hot spots and pain points for virtually all of our testers.
Temperature Control

Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid – Plush:7 / 10
Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid – Medium Firm:8.5 / 10
Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid – Firm:8.5 / 10
“I found this mattress to be worthy of the ‘Chill’ label. I never felt like heat was collecting around me, and I slept through the night without waking up in a sweat.” – Mary
Our team found that the Sapira Chill largely lived up to its name, allowing sleepers to stay cool during the night.
For a mattress with four foam layers, the Sapira Chill trapped very little heat.
Special fibers in the cover are engineered to pull extra warmth away from the body. Along with the open-cell foam layers and airflow through the coils, this helped preserve a neutral sleep temperature for most of our testers. This was particularly true for the firmer options, which prevented excess sinkage into the foam.
Edge Support
7
/ 10
“I wasn’t wowed by the edge support of the Sapira Chill, but the edges were stable and reliable.” – Brad
During our testing, we found that the Sapira Chill was dependable around the edges even if there was some extra sinkage near the perimeter.
In the support core, the Sapira Chill’s coils are reinforced around the edges. The denser transitional foam layer also helps prop up the perimeter. As a result, most people will find that there’s more than enough support when sitting near the edge or stretching out to use the entire surface of the mattress.
Ease of Movement
8
/ 10
Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid – Plush:7 / 10
Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid – Medium Firm:8.5 / 10
Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid – Firm:8.5 / 10
“As a hybrid or combination sleeper, I move around a lot in my sleep. On the Sapira Chill, I didn’t find it difficult to switch sleeping positions, especially on the firmer models.” – Mary
Movement on the Sapira Chill Hybrid felt smooth, especially compared to most other foam hybrids.
With the medium firm (6) and firm (7) models, our testers didn’t have any problems adjusting their sleeping position. While the softer model had a bit of a “sink-in” feel, the underlying coils and responsive foams prevented them from feeling stuck in the mattress.
Taken together, our team felt that most movement was easy on the Sapira Chill, including turning over, switching positions, and getting in and out of bed.
Durability
8
/ 10
The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid earns high marks for durability. As a hybrid mattress that uses four distinct foam layers, two of which are high-density polyfoam, sleepers can rely on cradling support without sinkage. Add to that the pocketed coil layer with individually wrapped springs, and the mattress should provide at least eight years of comfort.
The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid is 14 inches thick and comes in three different firmness options. Leesa labels these as plush, medium firm, and firm. On our firmness scale of 1 to 10, they correspond to medium (5), medium firm (6), and firm (7).
The cover of the mattress is made with a polyester blend that is stretchy and soft. Leesa includes unique fibers in the cover that help draw heat away from the body. Two handles on each side make the mattress easier to reposition or move.
The interior of the Sapira Chill includes six different layers. The top layer is 2 inches of gel-infused polyfoam that is quilted into a compact Euro-style pillow-top. Beneath that is a 1.5-inch layer of polyfoam, a 1-inch layer of memory foam, and a 1-inch layer of denser transitional polyfoam.
These foam layers work together to achieve two main goals. First, they contour evenly to the body, providing pressure relief that is tailored to your body’s shape and position on the mattress. Second, they maintain a bit of pushback so that you don’t sink too deeply into the bed.
The foams also absorb motion, so vibrations from movement shouldn’t ripple across the mattress surface. And as an added plus, Leesa uses breathable open-cell foams to limit heat retention.
The bottom two layers of the Sapira Chill make up the support core. The first of these is an 8-inch layer of pocketed coils. The heavy-duty coils are arranged into zones to provide extra reinforcement around the edges and beneath heavier areas of the body. The coils add sturdiness and bounciness that complement the pressure-relieving foam layers.
The base layer of the mattress is 1 inch of dense polyfoam to stabilize the mattress while also absorbing noise and vibration.

Shipping to Canada usually takes 7 to 10 business days because the shipment must clear customs. Extra charges for shipping and customs are shown in the final price shown during online checkout.
On delivery day, the mattress arrives at your doorstep in a box. Although the mattress has been compressed for shipping, it is still heavy, so it’s best if two people are available to move the box.

If you opt for a return, Leesa may ask you to donate the mattress and submit a donation receipt. If that’s not possible, they can help coordinate pickup of the mattress. Mattresses are not eligible for returns if they are damaged, and Leesa limits returns to two per household.
Customers in Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada are responsible for a $100 return shipping fee that is deducted from the refund. White Glove delivery costs are not refundable.
Warranty
Leesa backs the Sapira Chill Hybrid with a limited lifetime warranty. If the mattress has a defect in the first 10 years of ownership, the company will repair or replace it at no cost.
Starting in year 11, the company will replace the mattress, but you will be responsible for paying 50% to 75% of the current price of a comparable mattress model.
The warranty provides a remedy for uncommon defects, but it does not cover abuse, negligence, or normal wear and tear.
FAQs
Is Leesa Sapira Hybrid worth the cost?
The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid earned its premium price tag because of its standout temperature control, excellent pressure relief and support, and three firmness levels to suit different sleepers. It may be worth the investment if cooling performance and versatility are priorities for you. However, if budget is a primary concern, you can find top-performing mattresses at lower price points that deliver similar comfort and support.
What is the difference between Sapira and Sapira Chill?
While the Leesa Sapira Hybrid offers cooling features like high airflow foam, the Leesa Sapira Chill has a quilted cover with cooling fibers designed to regulate skin temperature. The Sapira Hybrid will likely work well for many sleepers, but those who sleep very hot may benefit from upgrading to the Sapira Chill for enhanced cooling properties.
Which is better, Leesa or Casper?
In our tests, the Leesa Sapira Chill and Casper both performed well, but they excelled in different areas. The Leesa scored slightly higher in temperature regulation, pressure relief, and ease of movement, while the Casper performed better with motion isolation. When making your choice, we recommend considering your body type, sleep position, and personal sleeping preferences: For instance, do you sleep alone or alongside a partner? Do you tend to run warm and prefer moisture-wicking materials? Questions like these can help you make your best mattress purchase.
What is the firmness of Sapira Hybrid?
The Sapira Hybrid is available in three different firmness options: medium (5), medium firm (6), and firm (7). The best firmness level for you generally depends on your body type and sleeping position.
