Saatva is well-known in the online mattress industry, launching in 2011 and rising to popularity for its luxury designs. In addition to mattresses, Saatva sells furniture, home decor, bedding, and bath items. The Saatva Contour5 Mattress is an all-foam model engineered for cooling and conforming. It comes in two firmness options, which Saatva labels as medium and firm. These correspond to medium firm (6) and firm (8) on our 10-point firmness scale.
In addition to the Saatva Contour5, the company produces a wide array of other models. The Saatva Classic Mattress is the flagship design, boasting a Euro-top innerspring design and three firmness options. Many sleepers also gravitate toward the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress, a moderately priced hybrid model with a medium firm (6) feel. Saatva also offers a latex model, a latex hybrid design, an airbed, and mattresses intended for children.

How the Saatva Contour5 Scored
Motion Isolation9.5/10
The Saatva Contour5 significantly isolates motion. This puts it in line with many of the best mattresses for couples. The foam core, thick comfort system, and generous use of memory foam absorb the vast majority of vibrations when a sleeper moves, preventing their partner from experiencing motion transfer.
Our vibration sensor picked up very little movement when we dropped a kettlebell on one side of the bed, and our testers also reported experiencing little to no motion transfer.
Brad Nehring, Product Testing Manager: The Contour5 isolates motion better than the vast majority of mattresses we’ve tested, including many memory foam models. This, coupled with the sturdy edge support, makes the mattress a great option for couples.
Pressure Relief9.0/10
One of the most popular attributes of most memory foam mattresses is their close-conforming pressure relief, and the Saatva Contour5 follows suit. Its two layers of memory foam combine to total 4.5 inches, leaving ample room to sink into the surface. The close hug then redistributes a sleeper’s body weight, reducing how much pressure buildup they experience.
As we expected, the medium firm (6) version outperformed the firm (8) option in our pressure relief testing. However, our pressure mapping showed that both options spread out weight nicely, and our testing team reported that both provided sufficient pressure relief for comfort.
Jeremy Klein, Product Testing Manager: The medium firm Contour5 provides excellent pressure relief — there’s a close contour, but not too much sink beneath the midsection. We didn’t rate the firm model as highly but it’s still above-average thanks to the thick foam layers.
Temperature Control7.0/10
The best cooling mattresses rarely contain thick memory foam comfort systems due to the material’s tendency to retain heat, but the Contour5 is able to buck that trend by incorporating several features designed for cooling. The polyfoam layer in the center third of the bed contains phase change material engineered to regulate temperature. Meanwhile, the top layer of memory foam incorporates ventilation channels and a gel infusion intended to dissipate heat.
Our temperature readings showed less lingering body heat than we’d expect from the average memory foam mattress. Additionally, our testers reported remaining at a comfortable temperature throughout our evaluations.
Colin Simpson, Product Research Manager: For a memory foam mattress, the Contour5 sleeps pretty cool. The phase change infusion helps a lot, as does the aerated memory foam layer just beneath the surface. You might notice some heat buildup, but probably not to the degree where it affects your sleep.
Edge Support6.0/10
While many all-foam models feel unsupportive around the perimeter, the Saatva Contour5 Mattress has decent edge support. The thick memory foam comfort system molds to the sleeper’s shape without collapsing under their weight, which can make it easier to use the full mattress surface comfortably.
In our tests, team members noted that the perimeter of the firm (8) felt significantly more secure than the medium firm (6). That said, most of our team members could sit or lie along the edge of both models without feeling like they might slip off.
Brad Nehring, Product Testing Manager: I was really impressed with the firm Contour5’s edge support — despite the all-foam design, there’s a fair amount of pushback and I didn’t sink much. You’ll notice a little more compression with the medium firm model, though.
Ease of Movement6.5/10
The Saatva Contour5 Mattress is relatively easy to move on. Since memory foam molds to the body and is slow to regain its shape, many models that use the material impede movement. However, the Contour5 Mattress incorporates enough faster-responding polyfoam to counteract this effect. Its two firmness options are also toward the higher end of the average firmness range, preventing excessive sinkage that could otherwise restrict movement.
Our testers didn’t struggle to move across the surface of either mattress firmness, but those over 230 pounds noted that changing positions on the medium firm (6) version was a bit more difficult.
Jeremy Klein, Product Testing Manager: There’s a little resistance when you move on the Contour5, but the top layer is pretty responsive. You don’t get the same level of bounce as you would from a hybrid or innerspring, but this mattress is much easier to move across than the average foam model.

My experience was similar to Jeremy’s and Colin’s, but I want to add that the Contour5 feels pretty stable along the perimeter. A lot of memory foam mattresses buckle and compress when weight is applied to the edges, but this one remained nice and flat.

Side Sleepers
The best memory foam mattresses are often well suited to side sleeping, and the Saatva Contour5 is no different. Two layers of memory foam mold closely to a side sleeper’s shoulders and hips to prevent uncomfortable pressure buildup around these critical areas. Combined, the memory foam comfort layers measure 4.5 inches thick for generous contouring.
Across weight groups, our testing team found both firmness options comfortable. However, those under 230 pounds slightly preferred the medium firm (6), whereas those over 230 pounds favored the firm (8).
Back Sleepers
The Saatva Contour5 is a good fit for many back sleepers. While its two memory foam comfort layers allow a back sleeper to sink in a bit, 2 inches of polyfoam strategically placed in the lumbar region reduce the risk of excessive sinkage causing poor posture.
Our testers of all weights reported that both firmness options were suitable, but sleepers under 130 pounds found the medium firm (6) closest to ideal. Heavier individuals prioritized the firm (8) version’s sturdier support.
Stomach Sleepers
Thanks to its balance of conforming and midsection support, the Contour5 fits the needs of many stomach sleepers. The close hug of memory foam prevents the surface from feeling hard. At the same time, the polyfoam layer in the center third of the mattress holds up the sleeper’s midsection to prevent lower back strain.
In our tests, stomach sleepers under 130 pounds preferred the medium firm (6) version due to its plusher feel. However, those over 130 pounds benefited from the firm (8) option’s support.

Shipping
The Saatva Contour5 Mattress includes free White Glove delivery within the contiguous United States. A team will call ahead to schedule a delivery date, and they’ll clarify a four-hour delivery window the evening before that date. On the agreed-upon day, they will deliver your mattress, set it up in your room of choice, and remove your old sleep surface if you choose.
Most Saatva mattresses arrive within 9 to 21 days, but this window may vary for some locations.
Additional Services
Saatva includes free White Glove delivery and old mattress removal with the purchase of the Contour5. If you wish to have your old mattress removed, be sure to check this option during checkout.
Sleep Trial
The Saatva Contour5 comes with a 365-night sleep trial. If at any time during this window you decide the mattress isn’t for you, you can reach out to Saatva to initiate a return or exchange. The company arranges mattress pickup, and a $99 processing fee applies.
Warranty
Saatva provides a limited lifetime warranty for the Contour5. During the first two years, Saatva offers to replace a mattress if it determines there is a qualifying defect. From year three onward, Saatva will repair and re-cover an eligible defective mattress for a $149 processing fee.
Alternatively, if you prefer to keep the defective mattress without repair, Saatva offers the option of also purchasing a new mattress at a discount prorated based on how long you owned the original mattress. A $99 fee applies for this option.
The warranty covers lasting body impressions deeper than 1.5 inches. The policy applies to the original purchaser. The mattress must be free from abuse and misuse.
