OVERVIEW

Crafted Sleep is a U.S.-based mattress manufacturer that sells products directly to consumers as well as through certain third-party retailers. The company makes one-sided and two-sided hybrid and all-foam models in a variety of profiles and firmness levels. Shoppers can also purchase kid-specific mattresses, custom mattress sizes, and sleep accessories. The Crafted Sleep 12” 1-Sided Hybrid Mattress is one of the company’s most popular products.

Our sleep product experts put this one-sided, 12-inch model to the test, reviewing it for temperature control, pressure relief, motion isolation, and other characteristics important to sleepers. We also examined its durability and value to give you all the information you need to pick the best mattress for you.

We’ll cover who we think may prefer this mattress, taking weight and sleeper type into account. You’ll also learn about the policies that matter most when buying a mattress online, including the company’s shipping, warranty, and sleep trial.

Mattress Performance

Motion Isolation

This model has average motion isolation for a hybrid mattress. The pocketed coil support core is responsive and feels slightly bouncy. While the foam comfort system counteracts some of this motion by absorbing vibrations, the foam isn’t thick enough to completely isolate movement. That means when one partner moves, the other may feel a slight disturbance across the bed.

People who sleep alone and those who prefer a responsive mattress should find this model suitable. Sleepers who share their bed with a partner and are sensitive to vibrations may prefer a model with a thicker comfort system for more comprehensive motion isolation.

Pressure Relief

Gel-infused memory foam and high-density polyfoam layers provide pressure relief that’s adequate for a wide range of sleepers. Our testers who weigh between 130 pounds and 230 pounds most preferred this model’s blend of pressure relief and responsiveness.

The 2-inch memory foam comfort layer cushions the body and prevents pressure buildup by absorbing impact and evenly distributing weight. This moderate contouring may not be enough for all sleepers. People who weigh less than 130 pounds and those with acute pressure point pain may prefer a model with thicker foam layers designed to provide deeper relief.

Temperature Control

This mattress’ hybrid construction and materials designed for cooling ensure that sleepers don’t get too hot throughout the night. It’s an excellent fit for people who run warm as well as those in hot climates.

Air flows freely through the pocketed coil support core, preventing heat and moisture retention. Though this model has 4 total inches of foam, it doesn’t trap heat significantly. The memory foam is infused with gel engineered to regulate temperature better than traditional memory foam.

The quilted stretch knit cover has a moisture-wicking design that keeps the mattress surface cool and comfortable. This model has excellent temperature control that’s a good fit for most people who sleep hot.

Edge Support

Reinforced sides give this bed above-average scores for edge support. Its support core has 8 inches of pocketed coils that provide responsive support. The sides are crafted from stiffer coils for a sturdier feel.

This feature allows people to sleep at the mattress’ edge without rolling toward the middle or compressing the sides too deeply. It’s also quite helpful for people who have a hard time getting in and out of bed, as the perimeter doesn’t sag significantly when you sit on it.

The extra edge support doesn’t extend to the top and bottom of the mattress, though most sleepers shouldn’t find reinforcement necessary in those areas.

Ease of Movement

Hybrid mattresses typically blend pressure relief and responsiveness for conforming that doesn’t significantly restrict movement. This model is no exception. Its pocketed coil support core has bounce and resilience that facilitates movement across the surface.

However, the memory foam comfort layer molds to the body, which naturally inhibits movement to some extent. While it’s not difficult to change positions on this model, people who like a bouncy surface may prefer a coil-on-coil or innerspring design with less foam.

Sex

Couples report that the best mattress for sex has bounce and edge support. This combination allows for easy movement that prevents couples from sinking into the support core.

The Crafted Sleep 12″ 1-Sided Hybrid Mattress has significant edge support that allows for full use of the mattress surface, including the perimeter. The foam comfort system dampens the responsiveness, so it may not be as bouncy as some couples like.

Off-Gassing

Like most mattresses that contain foam, this model off-gasses, meaning it releases trace amounts of chemicals related to foam manufacturing. While this process isn’t harmful to most people, it can be difficult for those who are particularly sensitive to smells or anyone with respiratory issues.

To let it air out, unroll the mattress in a well-ventilated room and allow up to 24 hours for chemical-like odors to dissipate.

Side Sleepers:
This model has two foam layers within the comfort system designed to address the painful pressure points side sleepers often experience. The gel-infused memory foam layer molds to your body in response to your weight and warmth, absorbing impact and redistributing weight. The high-density foam layer beneath is also engineered to adapt to your shape, helping to alleviate and prevent pressure buildup.

The Crafted Sleep 12″ 1-Sided Hybrid Mattress’ pressure-relieving foam formulation is best for side sleepers who weigh above 130 pounds. It’s an excellent fit for sleepers in this weight group, contouring to their bodies without sagging excessively. People who weigh less than 130 pounds may find it a bit too firm since they don’t weigh enough to compress the foam as deeply.

Back Sleepers:
This mattress is a great choice for back sleepers who weigh between 130 pounds and 230 pounds, providing an exceptional blend of spinal alignment and pressure relief. The pocketed coil core has strong support that balances the spine, while the foam comfort system cushions sore spots and prevents pressure buildup.

Back sleepers under 130 and over 230 pounds also find this model comfortable, but it isn’t ideal for everyone. People who weigh over 230 pounds may want to consider a model with firmer support to prevent their midsections from sinking into the core. Those under 130 pounds may prefer a mattress that’s a bit softer for greater pressure relief.

Stomach Sleepers:
Compared to the other sleeper types, stomach sleepers need the strongest support system to be comfortable. This model’s medium firm feel is adequate for all weight groups, but it’s too soft to truly excel for stomach sleepers.

The core has enough support to prevent significant curves in the spine, though it’s too compressive to keep stomach sleepers comfortably situated atop the mattress. A stomach sleeper’s midsection may sink too deeply into the mattress, potentially resulting in lower back discomfort.

Crafted Sleep 12-inch 1-Sided Hybrid Mattress Review Breakdown

The Crafted Sleep 12” 1-Sided Hybrid Mattress uses pocketed coils and different types of foam to create a medium firm (6) feel. Its mid-range firmness level is widely appealing and within the range that the majority of sleepers prefer.

Unlike the two-sided models in Crafted Sleep’s product lineup, this mattress is not designed to be flipped. This review focuses on the 12-inch model, though the company also offers one-sided hybrids in 8-, 10-, and 14- options.

The Crafted Sleep 12″ 1-Sided Hybrid Mattress begins with a stretch knit cover designed to wick moisture. The cover has .5 inches of quilting foam incorporated to soften the surface and create a plush feel.

Beneath the cover, there’s a comfort layer made from 2 inches of gel-infused memory foam. It adapts to your body’s shape to cushion sore joints and prevent pressure buildup. The gel infusion aims to keep sleepers cool by drawing heat away so that the memory foam doesn’t retain excess warmth.

A layer of high-density polyfoam provides a 1-inch buffer that eases the transition between the comfort layer and the support core. This foam further enhances pressure relief while also working to keep sleepers situated comfortably atop their mattress.

The support core features 8 inches of pocketed coils that are reinforced with sturdier coils at each side. These coils provide a strong structure for healthy spinal alignment and robust edge support. Finally, a .5-inch layer of foam anchors the mattress and ensures it’s compatible with most foundation options.

Mattress Prices and Sizing

Hybrid mattresses tend to be more expensive than other mattress constructions because of their multi-layered designs and different types of materials. The Crafted Sleep 12″ 1-Sided Hybrid Mattress is quite affordable compared to other hybrid mattresses thanks to its streamlined design. This may appeal to budget shoppers interested in a hybrid mattress.

You can find this model in the six standard sizes. Similar hybrid designs are available with 8-, 10-, and 14-inch profiles. Crafted Sleep also offers slightly more expensive flippable two-sided models.
