Our team at Sleep Foundation conducts extensive hands-on tests for each mattress to provide you with the most reliable, data-driven recommendations and reviews. Below are key guidelines that inform our testing methodology:
Our testers lie on the surface of each mattress to evaluate factors such as contouring and support. We also use specialized tools to measure performance criteria like pressure relief, heat retention, and motion isolation.
We test each mattress using various sleep positions to observe whether a mattress is better suited for side, back, or stomach sleeping. We roll around the surface and sit on the edges to gauge ease of movement and perimeter support.
We have tested hundreds of mattresses and bring years of experience in the mattress industry to the test lab. Our testing team covers a wide range of sleep preferences, sleep positions, and body types. This helps us represent as many sleeper types as possible in our reviews.

Founded in 2000, Intellibed leverages technology to craft mattresses engineered for supportiveness. To that end, the company developed a proprietary material called Gel Matrix to use in its product line.
Gel Matrix is a buckling column gel made from food-grade mineral oil. The material is designed to distribute weight evenly and provide pressure relief while maintaining a feel that’s simultaneously firm and soft.
Intellibed offers two collections of Gel Matrix mattresses: the Signature Collection and the Limited Collection.
The Signature Collection includes four models:
The Matrix
The Matrix Deluxe
The Matrix Supreme
The Matrix Grand
The Signature Collection consists of hybrid models that combine Gel Matrix, pocketed coils, and other materials. The Matrix is the lowest-priced option in the line, while the Matrix Grand carries the highest price tag.
Three more hybrid mattresses make up the Limited Collection. These models share relatively similar designs to the Signature Collection but include phase change material intended to regulate temperatures.
We will focus exclusively on the Intellibed Matrix Supreme. We’ll explore the mattress’ construction, price-point, sizing, and other factors so that you can assess whether it’s a good option for you.

Mattress Performance
Motion Isolation
The Matrix Supreme has very good motion isolation, making it a great choice for people who share a bed. Its gel and foam comfort system absorbs vibrations, helping sleepers remain asleep even with restless partners.
While the coils add some bounce to the surface, each spring is individually pocketed to minimize motion transfer across the layer. Both the top layer of polyfoam and the buckling column gel also balance responsiveness and motion absorption to limit vibrations without restricting movement.
Overall, the Matrix Supreme’s motion isolation is similar to or better than most hybrid models, though some all-foam designs earn higher marks.
Pressure Relief
The Matrix Supreme’s buckling column gel comfort layer does a good job of evenly distributing the body’s weight and relieving pressure points. This material is formed in a grid pattern, the walls of which collapse directly under weight to contour to the parts of the body that need it most.
A surface layer of titanium-infused polyfoam further enhances the pressure relief by cushioning the body, while a pocketed coil core adds enough pushback to promote good spinal alignment for most sleepers.
The Matrix Supreme’s medium firm (6) feel and ample pressure relief may be particularly comfortable for side sleepers.
Temperature Control
Thanks to its combination of materials, the Matrix Supreme shouldn’t retain much heat. The top layer of polyfoam contains titanium flakes, which are intended to transfer heat away from the body. Open areas in the buckling column gel’s grid pattern also let heat dissipate. A layer of open-cell, reticulated polyfoam is especially porous to allow airflow, and air can also move relatively freely through the coil system.
Like many hybrid models, the Matrix Supreme should maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the year. This may make it ideal for hot sleepers.
Edge Support
The Matrix Supreme has decent edge support, which can enhance both the durability of the mattress and the comfort of the sleeper. A reinforced foam perimeter limits sagging along the edge so that sleepers can use more of the surface without worries about falling off. The sturdy coil system also gives the bed a more supportive feel.
However, the contouring of the comfort system may make the core’s support less noticeable, especially for sleepers over 230 pounds. This is similar to the performance of many hybrid models on the market.
Ease of Movement
Because of its medium firm (6) feel and multilayered design, the Matrix Supreme has average ease of movement compared to other hybrids. While sleepers are unlikely to feel “trapped in the bed,” changing positions may require a slight effort.
The comfort system’s layers of foam and buckling column gel conform to the body but regain their shape quickly when the sleeper moves. Meanwhile, the coil core adds moderate bounce. This combination should not restrict movement, but it may not aid it as much as a firmer, bouncier surface.
Sex
Hybrid beds are generally good for sex, and the Matrix Supreme is no exception. The mattress’ foam and buckling column gel comfort system reduces noise and adds cushioning, while the coil support core adds bounce and support.
However, the Matrix Supreme lacks the degree of responsiveness of a traditional innerspring model, making it slightly more difficult to move. The comfort system may also dampen the coil core’s bounce and edge support.
Off-Gassing
Off-gassing refers to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that a mattress releases into the air when unpacked. These chemicals are residuals from the manufacturing process.
While they generally aren’t harmful to most people, some dislike the chemical smell.
The Intellibed Matrix Supreme is CertiPUR-US certified. This means it is independently verified to produce minimal VOC emissions and be free from an array of potentially harmful substances. The mattress may still have an initial odor, but this should dissipate within a few days if you leave it in a well-ventilated room.

The Matrix Supreme is an exceptional option for most side sleepers regardless of their body types. Comfort layers of polyfoam and buckling column gel adjust to a side sleeper’s shape to redistribute pressure and ease discomfort. A pocketed coil support core contours more deeply while also providing the support necessary to help promote proper spinal alignment, which is vital for side sleepers.
Because of the mattress’ medium firm (6) feel, side sleepers under 230 pounds should enjoy the best blend of pressure relief and spinal support. That said, many side sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds also sleep comfortably on the Matrix Supreme, though their hips and shoulders could sag slightly.
Back Sleepers
The Matrix Supreme provides consistent support to spread out the weight of a back sleeper’s body, relieving pressure from areas that tend to dig into the mattress. Thanks to the comfort system’s combination of polyfoam and buckling column gel, weightier body parts can sink in a bit. However, the coil core limits how deeply the hips dip into the bed. Many back sleepers may experience this as a gentle cradling that supports the lower back.
As a medium firm (6) model, the Matrix Supreme may be closest to ideal for back sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds. Those who weigh over 130 pounds and favor a plusher feel may also like the Matrix Supreme, but it may not provide the same degree of spinal support for these individuals.
Stomach Sleepers
Although some stomach sleepers who like more plushness against the front of their bodies may enjoy the Matrix Supreme’s medium firm (6) feel, most are generally better served by firmer models.
For some stomach sleepers who weigh less than 230 pounds, the Matrix Supreme’s polyfoam and buckling column gel layers cushion comfortably, while the coil core provides enough support to minimize lower back discomfort. On the other hand, stomach sleepers who carry more weight near their midsections and those who weigh over 230 pounds might sag in more significantly, potentially straining their lumbar areas and necks.
Like other hybrid mattresses, the Matrix Supreme combines several layers of distinct materials for support and comfort. It has a medium firm (6) feel, which is ideal for many sleep positions and body weights.
A quilted cover encases the Matrix Supreme without hampering the comfort system’s contouring. Next, a layer of titanium-infused polyfoam is designed to conduct heat away from the body. A 2.5-inch layer of Gel Matrix, a proprietary buckling column gel, redistributes the sleeper’s weight for cradling and spinal support. Underneath, a layer of open-cell reticulated foam allows ample air circulation to help keep sleepers cool at night. Another layer of foam helps ease the transition to the core.
At its base, the Matrix Supreme has a pocketed coil system that compresses directly under the sleeper to contour to their shape and minimize the spread of movement. This layer also adds bounce and breathability. A foam encasement wraps around the perimeter to reinforce the edge.
The mattress measures 15.75 inches thick. This makes it a high-profile model that’s likely to need deep pocket sheets.
Intellibed’s mattresses are CertiPUR-US certified, which means they’ve passed rigorous third-party tests for emissions and material standards.

Intellibed ships mattresses within the contiguous U.S.
Shoppers can purchase Intellibed mattresses directly from the company as well as from third-party retailers, such as Mattress Firm. Different shipping and return policies may apply for purchases through third-party vendors.
Shipping
Intellibed mattresses ship through a local company or Pilot, a third-party freight service. The shopper receives an email from Intellibed when their mattress is ready to ship and another email from the delivery partner a few days later. Once the mattress is in the area, the partner will contact the shopper again to schedule the date and time of the delivery. Most orders arrive within about 14 business days.
The delivery team will bring in the mattress, set it up, and remove the packaging for you.
Shipping charges vary depending on the shopper’s location but generally start around $199.
Additional Services
Intellibed ships its mattresses through local companies or Pilot. Either option includes mattress delivery and setup. Some delivery partners may be able to accommodate Saturday or after-hours deliveries for an additional fee. Old mattress removal may also be available for an extra $99 fee.
Sleep Trial
Intellibed offers a 90-night sleep trial. The company asks that the shopper sleeps on the bed for a minimum of 30 nights before requesting a return. Returns initiated before the 30-night mark will be subject to return shipping charges. If the mattress is returned between 30 and 90 days after purchase, the shopper may be eligible for free return shipping and a full refund.
Mattresses must be used with a protector to qualify. Intellibed will arrange for a local company to pick up the unwanted mattress and package it for return shipping.
Exchanges are also available, in which case the customer is responsible for shipping costs associated with the new mattress and possible upgrade fees.
Warranty
The Matrix Supreme comes with a 20-year limited warranty that applies to the original owner who purchased their mattress through an authorized seller. The warranty covers visible indentations over .75 inches deep.
The policy does not apply if the tags are removed or if the damage was caused by abuse, misuse, or improper support.
Should Intellibed determine the mattress has a qualifying defect, the company will repair or replace it. The owner will incur pick-up fees.
