The Tempur-Pedic mattresses and the Loom & Leaf by Saatva are both produced by well-known brands in the bedding industry.

Saatva has made a name for itself as one of the few direct-to-consumer mattress companies that doesn’t compress its mattresses for shipping. The Loom & Leaf by Saatva is an all-foam mattress designed with specialty cooling and pressure-relieving foams.

Tempur-Pedic is a long-established mattress company, known for being the first brand to use memory foam in its mattresses. The company currently makes both all-foam and hybrid designs using Tempur-Pedic’s proprietary memory foam, which is engineered to cradle the body and provide exceptional pressure relief.

The Loom & Leaf and Tempur-Pedic mattresses offer many of the same benefits, and you might be wondering what exactly sets them apart. We’ll highlight important distinctions between the two companies so you can decide which model best suits your needs.

Sizing Options

The right mattress size depends on a number of variables, such as budget, body size, personal preference, and whether or not you have a sleeping partner. Whereas a child should find a twin mattress roomy enough, an adult might feel hemmed in. Larger sizes offer more usable space and can accommodate couples or pets, but they also come at a higher price-point.

As for mattress height, high-profile mattresses may have a more substantial support core or a thicker comfort section. However, extra-thick mattresses require fitted sheets with deeper pockets, and they may not be ideal for people working with limited space. If you find that the height of the mattress affects how easily you can get in and out of bed, remember to calculate the total height of the mattress when it’s placed on the foundation.

Mattress weight relates more to convenience than comfort and isn’t really a nightly consideration, with the exception that a heavier mattress often shifts less on a bed frame. Heftier mattresses can be more difficult to maneuver, but unless you move frequently, this shouldn’t be a regular factor.

The dimensions of the twin, twin XL, and full size mattresses by Loom & Leaf and Tempur-Pedic are slightly smaller than average. This might be a consideration if you want to avoid awkward gaps on your bed frame.

Saatva sells the Loom & Leaf in all six standard mattress sizes, as well as split king and split California king. A split king mattress is divided into two twin XL sections and is ideal for couples with different sleep preferences, as it’s usually possible to customize each side. A split California king is a few inches longer and geared towards taller individuals.

Most Tempur-Pedic models come in the six standard sizes. Some styles aren’t available in standard twin or full sizes, but both split king and split California king sizes are available for most models.

Mattresses are typically between 10 and 15 inches high, so the Loom & Leaf’s 12-inch profile is considered fairly average. Tempur-Pedic mattress heights range from 10 to 13 inches. The TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze and LuxeAdapt have the highest profiles and the TEMPUR-Cloud, TEMPUR-Adapt, and Adapt Hybrid have a lower-profile design, though still well within the average range.

As the Loom & Leaf and Tempur-Pedic mattresses are made with fairly dense foams, they weigh a little more than the average foam mattress. Usually hybrids are among the heaviest mattress types, because they combine sturdy steel coils with foam.

Construction and Materials Comparison

Each mattress type has inherent strengths and weaknesses, and knowing your top priorities can help you find the right fit. The Loom & Leaf is an all-foam mattress, while Tempur-Pedic specializes in both foam and hybrid designs.

All-foam mattresses typically utilize pressure-relieving foams for the comfort section and high-density foams for the support core. Foam models tend to isolate motion well, meaning that movement on one part of the bed isn’t likely to be felt on another side.

Hybrid mattresses attempt to capitalize on the strengths of both foam and coil systems. These mattresses combine a pocketed coil support core with a comfort system consisting of one or more cushioning layers. The coil-based core adds bounce to complement the pressure-relieving comfort section.

The Loom & Leaf and all Tempur-Pedic mattresses rely extensively on memory foam, which is notorious for retaining heat. Saatva and Tempur-Pedic utilize gel infusions and phase change material (PCM) to help offset this tendency. Hybrids tend to be better at balancing temperature when compared to all-foam designs, as there is more space for air to circulate.

Loom & Leaf

Topped with a breathable quilted organic cotton cover and a natural thistle flame barrier, the Loom & Leaf Mattress by Saatva is designed to cradle the body with multiple pressure-relieving foams. This five-layer model comes in two firmness levels, medium firm and firm. These are equivalent to a 6 and an 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

The 3-inch foam comfort system consists of two distinct layers. The first layer utilizes gel-infused memory foam with ventilated holes that are designed to promote airflow. Extra gel and phase change material provide enhanced cooling and support for the lumbar region. In the second layer, higher-density memory foam helps cradle the body and cushion pressure points. This section is firmer and more resilient in the firm model.

An 8-inch high-density polyfoam core split into two layers gives the mattress stability and helps support the spine.

Tempur-Pedic

Tempur-Pedic’s mattress lineup includes all-foam and hybrid designs made with Tempur-Pedic’s proprietary memory foam.

TEMPUR-Cloud

The TEMPUR-Cloud is Tempur-Pedic’s only mattress in a box model. This 10-inch foam mattress has a medium (5) firmness level and features a simple design with three layers in total:

  • TEMPUR COMFORT memory foam
  • TEMPUR SUPPORT memory foam
  • Polyfoam base

The cover is made of a breathable and stretchy material that is designed to flex in synchrony with the memory foam.

The TEMPUR-Adapt Series

In the TEMPUR-Adapt Mattress, a TEMPUR-ES memory foam comfort layer and a TEMPUR transition layer cradle the body to alleviate pressure points. This mattress is available in all-foam and hybrid versions. Both models feature a cool-to-the-touch knit cover. The all-foam’s support core is made from polyfoam, while the hybrid utilizes a pocketed coil system with reinforced foam edges:

  • TEMPUR-ES memory foam comfort layer
  • TEMPUR transitional memory foam layer
  • High-density polyfoam support core (all-foam)
  • Pocketed coils encased in high-density polyfoam (hybrid)

Though both the all-foam and hybrid styles have a medium (5) feel with strong pressure relief, each performs a little differently based on their materials. The foam model excels when it comes to motion isolation. The hybrid performs slightly better in terms of temperature regulation, and the coils are reinforced around the perimeter with high-density polyfoam for better edge support.

The TEMPUR-ProAdapt Series

The ProAdapt is distinguished by its removable and machine-washable SmartClimate cover that is engineered to remove excess heat. The ProAdapt also uses TEMPUR-APR memory foam, which is designed to provide extra pressure relief. The high-density polyfoam support core is divided into two layers, which are convoluted to allow for better airflow. Like the TEMPUR-Adapt, the ProAdapt series comes in all-foam and hybrid versions:

  • Dual-layer SmartClimate cover with a removable outer layer
  • TEMPUR-ES memory foam comfort layer
  • TEMPUR-APR memory foam transition layer
  • High-density convoluted polyfoam support core (all-foam)
  • Pocketed coils encased in high-density polyfoam (hybrid)

The all-foam is available in soft (3), medium (5), and firm (7) options, while the hybrid only comes in medium (5).

The TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt Mattress

This all-foam model is available in two firmness levels: soft (3) or firm (7). The TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt has many of the same features as the ProAdapt Series, such as a SmartClimate cooling cover and TEMPUR-ES memory foam:

  • TEMPUR-ES memory foam comfort layer
  • TEMPUR-APR+ transition layer
  • High-density convoluted polyfoam support core

The LuxeAdapt contains TEMPUR-APR+ memory foam in the transitional layer. This foam has a compact cell structure and is intended to offer deep compression and pressure relief.

The TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze Mattress

The TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze Mattress incorporates Tempur-Pedic’s most sophisticated cooling technology. It features a dual-layer SmartClimate polyester cover, with an added layer of PureCool+ phase change material beneath the cover for advanced cooling. The LUXEbreeze also has a layer of breathable TEMPUR-CM+ memory foam, and a ventilated transitional layer designed to increase air circulation:

  • Removable SmartClimate cover with PCM
  • TEMPUR-CM+ memory foam comfort layer
  • TEMPUR-APR ventilated memory foam transitional layer
  • High-density convoluted polyfoam support core

This all-foam model comes in two different firmness levels, soft (3) and firm (7).

The TEMPUR-PRObreeze Series

Though not quite as sophisticated as the TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze series, the TEMPUR-PRObreeze Series is another strong option for hot sleepers. Like the LUXEbreeze, the PRObreeze features a removable SmartClimate cover with PureCool+ phase change material intended to dissipate excess heat:

  • Removable SmartClimate cover with PCM
  • TEMPUR-CM+ memory foam comfort layer
  • Memory foam transitional layer
  • High-density convoluted polyfoam support core (all-foam)
  • Pocketed coils encased in high-density polyfoam (hybrid)

This mattress is available as an all-foam or a hybrid mattress, both with a medium (5) firmness.

Pricing Information

As you may have noticed during your search, mattress cost can vary significantly. The materials, quality, type, and size of a mattress all factor into pricing. Larger or specialized mattress sizes command a higher price-point, while twin and full sizes fall at the lower end of the spectrum. Organic materials, cooling technologies, and innovative construction methods can also drive up the price.

A queen size mattress can be as inexpensive as $250, or it can set you back $3,000 or more. As they are made with high-quality materials, the Loom & Leaf and Tempur-Pedic mattresses are considered luxury models. This is reflected in their prices.

The Loom & Leaf has a more accessible price-point when compared to the various Tempur-Pedic models. Tempur-Pedic’s most budget-friendly mattress is the TEMPUR-Cloud, with the LUXEbreeze commanding the highest price-point of all the designs due to its additional cooling technologies.

Generally, hybrids are more expensive than all-foam mattresses. This is not the case with Tempur-Pedic’s models, whose all-foam and hybrid models within the same series are priced the same. Shoppers who prefer hybrid mattresses may be drawn to this favorable pricing.

The price of the Loom & Leaf is about average compared to other mattresses of comparable design and quality. Tempur-Pedic was the first company to use memory foam in mattresses, and it is still considered one of the top luxury mattress brands. Accordingly, most of the Tempur-Pedic mattresses come at a higher-than-average price-point. Both brands offer free White Glove delivery, which usually commands a significant extra charge.

Mattress Performance Ratings

Various factors such as temperature regulation, motion isolation, and pressure relief play into a mattress’ performance and overall comfort. Depending on your body type and sleeping style, you may find certain attributes more important than others. We’ll highlight the most essential features so you know what to consider when shopping for your next mattress.

Durability
The expected lifespan of a mattress is directly related to its overall quality. Models with substantial support cores and higher-quality foams tend to have longer lifespans, since they resist sagging over time. Although the initial cost may be higher, a mattress with better durability won’t need to be replaced as soon.

Motion Isolation
Motion isolation describes a mattress’ ability to minimize motion transfer from one side of the bed to the other, which may be especially important for couples. One of the best materials for motion isolation is memory foam, which conforms closely to a sleeper’s movements without allowing vibrations to ripple across the bed.

Sex
Ease of movement is an important factor during sex, and many couples find that hybrid mattresses provide a comfortable balance of traction and bounce. Hybrids also have better edge support and more room for airflow to prevent overheating. On the other hand, hybrid mattresses are more likely to emit the occasional squeak or creak, so an all-foam mattress might be a better option for couples who wish to be discreet.

Temperature Neutrality
Some materials are naturally better at dispelling excess heat than others. Innerspring or hybrid designs often rank high in this category, as they allow air to circulate throughout the coils. Traditional memory foam tends to retain heat, which is why many companies opt for gel infusions or phase change materials to help control temperature.

Pressure Relief
Since a mattress that is too firm can cause pressure points in weight-bearing areas, most sleepers prefer a mattress built with at least one cushioning layer. Materials like memory foam, latex, and cotton batting can provide some plushness to alleviate pressure. Another important component of the mattress is the support core, which must provide a sturdy base to keep the spine aligned and prevent pressure buildup from a lack of support.

Off-gassing
New foam mattresses sometimes give off a certain odor, referred to as off-gassing. The smell is due to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) being released into the air. Although it may be bothersome for some sleepers, off-gassing isn’t typically considered dangerous, and any detectable smell usually wears off within a few hours or a few days at the most.

Ease of Movement
Some people don’t mind sacrificing bounce for deeper cradling, while others prefer not to sink in while they sleep. If you are a combination sleeper, you may find that memory foam and other close-conforming materials can make it more challenging to change positions. Hybrids are often a good compromise, as the coiled support core prevents sleepers from sinking too far into the mattress.

Edge Support
A mattress’ strength along its perimeter is a top factor for anyone who shares a bed. Strong edge support increases usable surface area, whereas mattresses with a weak perimeter can cause a rolling-off sensation when sitting on or sleeping near the edge of the bed. Some mattresses are built with reinforced polyfoam casing or stronger coils around the edges to minimize this problem.

Shipping

The standard practice for direct-to-consumer mattress companies is to compress mattresses and ship them in a box. These boxed mattresses require minimal set-up and no professional assistance. Many companies offer complimentary shipping to the contiguous U.S., but they may charge a fee for orders to Alaska or Hawaii.

Alternately, some companies may offer White Glove delivery, which means they will send a team to set up your bed in the room of your choice and remove any packaging. In many cases, White Glove delivery includes removal of your old mattress.

Loom & Leaf Shipping Policies

The Loom & Leaf is shipped with free White Glove delivery for customers in the contiguous U.S., as well as old mattress removal for those who specify this option at checkout. Expedited shipping is only available in the event that another customer happens to have cancelled an order. Customers in Alaska and Hawaii can contact Saatva directly to enquire about freight shipping options.

Tempur-Pedic Shipping Policies

Tempur-Pedic offers free White Glove delivery to the lower 48 states for most models. The delivery team can remove your old mattress and box spring upon request. Mattresses usually arrive within 1 to 2 weeks of ordering. Tempur-Pedic offers expedited courier options and can ship to Alaska and Hawaii for an additional $600 fee.

The TEMPUR-Cloud is sent as a mattress in a box via UPS Ground. Shipping is free in the contiguous U.S.

Sleep Trial and Returns

A company’s sleep trial and return policy shouldn’t be overlooked, since even the most well-researched mattress decision isn’t guaranteed to be compatible with your sleeping style. Most companies offer a sleep trial of at least a few months so you can test out the mattress and return it if you don’t like it. Certain brands require you to complete a minimum break-in period before requesting a return.

Sometimes the customer is responsible for handling or return shipping fees, while other companies will arrange the return shipping free of charge. Make sure to closely examine company policies, as there could be a number of exceptions or disclaimers when it comes to returns.

Loom & Leaf Sleep Trial and Return Policy

Loom & Leaf has a 365-night sleep trial that starts on the date of delivery. For customers who decide to return their mattress during the sleep trial, Saatva will arrange for pickup and provide a full refund less a $99 shipping fee. Alternately, the mattress may be exchanged for another model, also for a $99 fee.

Tempur-Pedic Sleep Trial and Return Policy

Tempur-Pedic mattresses have a 90-day sleep trial, but the company requests a 30-day break-in period before initiating a return. If you’re unhappy with your purchase, Tempur-Pedic may suggest an alternative model based on your feedback and preferences. Customers who decide to proceed with the return process receive a full refund within the trial period, but they are responsible for return shipping fees.

Warranty

Mattress warranties protect the customer from potential manufacturing or material defects, such as permanent body indentations. Warranties usually don’t cover damage caused by incorrect use or normal wear-and-tear. Company policies vary when it comes to assessment, repairs, and replacement, so it’s always a good idea to examine a warranty’s fine print.

Loom & Leaf Mattress Warranty

The Loom & Leaf is backed by a lifetime warranty against defects including body impressions deeper than 1 inch. Saatva will replace your mattress with no extra charge within the first 2 years of the warranty. Beyond that, Saatva will charge a $149 transportation fee for mattress repairs.

Starting in year 3, customers can also select the Fairness Replacement Option, which allows you to keep your original, defective mattress while purchasing a brand new one at a discounted rate. The exact discount depends on how long you’ve owned the mattress.

Tempur-Pedic Mattress Warranty

Tempur-Pedic offers a limited 10-year warranty for its mattresses. The company will repair or replace defective mattresses at its option, but it is up to the customer to pay applicable shipping charges. Tempur-Pedic advises customers to keep their original purchase documents for filing a potential claim.

The warranty covers splitting or cracking foams, problems with the zipper, and visible indentations at least .75 inches deep. To qualify for the warranty, mattresses must be used with a properly supportive foundation.
