Full Mattress ReviewSaatva and Tempur-Pedic are two well-established mattress brands that manufacture their products in the U.S. and prioritize high-quality, chemical-free materials. Tempur-Pedic, founded in 1992, originated from a company that developed foam technology for NASA, making it a pioneer in memory foam mattresses. Saatva, launched in 2010, remains a privately owned U.S. company known for its luxury hybrid designs.
The Saatva Classic is a high-end innerspring mattress, while the Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt is a premium all-foam model, offering distinct sleep experiences. To help you determine which one is the best fit, we tested both in our Sleep Lab, examined company policies, and analyzed customer reviews to provide a comprehensive comparison.

Our Testing Team’s Take
In our Seattle-based Test Lab, our testing team has examined nearly 2,000 mattresses over less than a decade. Through this hands-on testing, we’ve developed a unique product research methodology that forms the backbone of our mattress rating system.
Using cutting edge technology, we pressure map each bed to identify where pressure points may form. We use similarly advanced tools to measure motion transfer across each mattress’ surface and heat retention.
We also have testing team members take mattresses home for weeks at a time, allowing them to mimic real-world use. Because our team members represent a variety of body weights and sleep position preferences, their perspectives can help you identify which might be the best mattress for you.
Our Verdict
The Saatva Classic and Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt have different feels, so some people immediately know which one they like most based on personal preference alone. The Saatva Classic provides a mix of contouring and bounce but doesn’t give a deep “hugging” sensation, like the TEMPUR-Adapt does.
The differing constructions of the Saatva Classic and Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt mean they have opposing strengths and weaknesses. So while the Saatva Classic scores perfectly on temperature control while — like many all-foam beds — the TEMPUR-Adapt can retain heat. And though the TEMPUR-Adapt excels at motion isolation, making it a top choice for couples who share a bed, the coil construction of the Saatva Classic transfers motion.
Overall, a wider variety of sleepers can find comfort on the Saatva Classic, because it’s available in three firmness options. By contrast, the TEMPUR-Adapt provides the most comfort to side sleepers of all body weights and back sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds. Back sleepers weighing over 130 pounds and stomach sleepers of all weights generally require more support than the TEMPUR-Adapt can provide.

“The Saatva Classic is one of the sturdiest mattresses around. I also like how cool the Classic sleeps. There’s hardly any heat retention from the foam layers and the cover is nice and breathable. If there’s one major downside, I’d say it’s motion transfer — the surface is pretty bouncy, and you’ll feel some movement during the night if you sleep with a partner.”

“TEMPUR foam was a great fit for me as a side sleeper. It had just the right amount of contouring, and its motion isolation absorbed almost all vibration from the other side of the mattress.”
Construction and Materials
The Saatva Classic is an innerspring mattress with foam and microcoil comfort layers, while the Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt is an all-foam mattress.

Saatva Classic Breakdown
Saatva offers the Classic in three firmness levels that rate as soft (3), medium-firm (6), and firm (8), on our 10-point firmness scale. However, Saatva refers to them as Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm, respectively. The Classic also comes in two profile options: 11.5 and 14.5 inches.
All Classic mattress options contain five layers, including the cover, which is made of organic cotton that’s been treated with GuardinTM to prevent mold and bacteria from growing. The first comfort layer consists of 3 inches of polyform, which has been quilted into the cover to form a cushiony Euro-top. Below it sits the Lumbar ZoneⓇ, a memory foam lumbar pad designed to support the lower back area.
All foam layers in the bed are CertiPUR-US certified, meaning they’re free from formaldehyde, mercury, lead, other heavy metals, ozone depleters, and potentially unhealthy fire retardants.
Beneath the comfort foam layers is a pocketed microcoil layer that’s reinforced beneath the lower back area to protect against back pain. This layer adds stability and bounce to the bed while allowing for cooling airflow. Beneath it sits the innerspring support core, which provides stability and firmness while allowing for even more cooling airflow.
Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt Breakdown
The Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt is available in one firmness option that measures medium, or 5 out of 10 on our scale. Its profile measures 11 inches, which provides space for four layers, including the cover. Tempur-Pedic doesn’t share what the cover is made of, but they do say that it’s designed to feel cool to the touch.
The first comfort layer in the TEMPUR-Adapt is a 1.6-inch layer of TEMPUR-MaterialTM, the brand’s memory foam. This layer is softer and quickly molds to the body, providing the sensation of a hug. Beneath it is another 1.6-inch layer of TEMPUR-MaterialTM that’s firmer than the first, since it provides a combination of both support and comfort.
The TEMPUR-Adapt’s support core consists of polyfoam that adds stability to the bed and contributes to its firmness level. As with the Saatva Classic, all foams in the TEMPUR-Adapt are CertiPUR-US certified.
Mattress Sizing and Weight
The lower-profile Saatva Classic and the Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt have nearly the same profile size, and both can fit standard sheets. The higher-profile Saatva Classic may require deep-pocket sheets, however, and as a result of its steel coil layers, it weighs significantly more than the TEMPUR-Adapt.
Mattress Model | Profile | Weight (Queen) |
---|---|---|
Saatva Classic | 11.5″ and 14.5″ | 110 lbs. and 120 lbs. |
Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt | 11″ | 72 lbs. |
Performance Ratings
The Saatva Classic and Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt rate highly in different areas. The Saatva Classic excels most at temperature control, making it a strong contender for hot sleepers. Reinforced edges on this model also lead to strong edge support, which is attractive to sleepers who want to feel secure sitting on or sleeping near the edge of the bed. In contrast, the TEMPUR-Adapt can retain heat and its edges might not feel secure for heavier sleepers.
The Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt stands out in motion isolation and pressure relief, like many all-foam beds do. Couples who share a bed will appreciate that its memory foam comfort layers absorb motion, so one person’s movements during the night likely won’t disturb the other’s sleep. Pressure relief is often most important to side sleepers and sleepers prone to chronic pain. While the Saatva relieves pressure well, too, it can tend to transfer motion due to its coils.
Because the Saatva Classic comes in three firmness levels, nearly all sleepers can find comfort on it if they purchase the right firmness option. The soft (3) option is best for sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds. Heavier sleepers prefer either the medium-firm or firm option, depending on their sleep position preference. The TEMPUR-Adapt works best for side sleepers of all body weights and back sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds.
Mattress Pricing
Generally, mattresses that contain coils cost more than all-foam beds, due to steel costing more than synthetic foams. In this case, the Saatva Classic and the Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt are sold for comparable prices, but the TEMPUR-Adapt costs a couple hundred dollars more.
These beds come with similar policies, and both are delivered via free White Glove Delivery, but the Tempur-Pedic offers a shorter sleep trial and warranty period than Saatva does.

What Customers Are Saying
Both mattresses receive rave reviews online, but the Saatva Classic can boast nearly perfect ratings. Customers often praise the Saatva Classic for its comfort and its ability to remain cool through the night. Customers often praise the TEMPUR-Adapt for its pressure-relieving ability and deep contouring. Reviewers of both beds often say the beds drastically improved their sleep quality.
A few customers say the TEMPUR-Adapt is either too firm or too soft. These disparities suggest that unhappy shoppers purchased a bed that wasn’t suited to their sleep position preferences or body weight, which is something to keep in mind when shopping. Though negative reviews of the Saatva Classic are few and far between, those that exist tend to focus more on customer service or warranty fulfillment issues rather than on the mattress’ features.
