Best Hybrid Mattress for Side Sleepers
Just because side sleeping is the most common sleep position doesn’t mean it’s easy for side sleepers to find a great mattress. If you sleep on your side like me, you’ve probably encountered plenty of mattresses that are shockingly uncomfortable.
When lying on your side, pressure can concentrate around your hips and shoulders. If a mattress is too firm, those joints can press painfully against the bed. But if a mattress is too soft, your hips and shoulders can sink in too far, pulling your spine into an uneven posture.
Our team has found that hybrid mattresses often strike the balance that side sleepers need for true comfort and support. We analyzed data from testing over 2,000 mattresses, then reviewed the top performers to curate this list of the best hybrid mattresses for side sleepers.

Our #1 Pick: Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid
After extensive debate and analysis, we picked the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid as the best hybrid mattress for side sleepers. We loved how it cushioned the shoulders and hips while promoting comfort and spinal alignment. The ability to choose from three firmness options means there’s a model that suits virtually every side sleeper.

How We Test
How We Determine Our Best Overall Score
With each mattress we test, our team follows the same comprehensive research and evaluation methodology to ensure objective, data-based findings. The mattress testing process consists of four stages, beginning with our detailed analysis of the bed’s construction, materials, and firmness. This cursory exam allows us to calculate an expected lifespan to determine our durability score. We also review the brand’s shipping and return policies, as well as its overall reputation for customer service and satisfaction.
The second stage involves hands-on evaluations in our Seattle Test Lab. We use a wide range of tools and technology to determine how well the mattress relieves pressure, isolates motion, regulates temperature, and resists deep compression when weight is applied. Once we’ve finished the lab-based stage, our field testers take the mattresses home and sleep on them in their own bedrooms for 2 to 3 weeks. These in-home experiences capture how the mattress performs night to night in an authentic sleep environment. Lastly, we collect and read verified customer reviews of each product to make sure our findings are in line with the general public.
Throughout this four-step testing process, we record data and notes that contribute to each bed’s overall and individual performance ratings. The graph below shows how every performance metric contributes to product scores.

How We Determine the Best Hybrid Mattress for Side Sleepers
We have a long track record of testing mattresses. We’ve brought more than 2,000 mattresses into our Test Lab in Seattle, and we collect extensive data from a network of field testers. That gives us a huge database of hands-on ratings to draw on.
To pick the Best Hybrid Mattress for Side Sleepers, we filtered this data based on the following criteria:
- Pressure relief (essential for the hips and shoulders)
- Cushioning that supports spinal alignment when lying on your side
- High-quality materials that stand the test of time
Our team took the shortlist and selected the top options, giving each bed an accolade based on its specific advantages.

Performance
The construction of the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid aligns with the needs of side sleepers, and you can dial in your comfort by choosing from three firmness options.
How It Performed
Side sleepers on our team gave rave reviews to the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid. The medium (5) model (which Leesa calls “Plush”) was most popular among side sleepers under 130 pounds, and the supportive firm (7) design won over those who weigh more than 230 pounds. Sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds liked all three models, but preferred the balanced medium firm (6) option.

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.
Performance
The Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Hybrid won’t break the bank, but that doesn’t mean it can’t deliver a great night’s sleep. Its sturdy, medium firm (6) feel appeals to side sleepers who want modest contouring without excessive sinkage.
How It Performed
During our testing, the CopperFlex Hybrid proved to be a solid option for side sleepers over 130 pounds. It got its best ratings from those weighing between 130 and 230 pounds, but most of our testers over 230 pounds also got good support from this mattress.
Best Cooling Mattress: Helix Midnight Luxe

9.7/10Test Lab Score
Helix Midnight Luxe
A premium quality, hybrid mattress created with side sleepers in mind.

- Feel: Sturdy and balanced with foams that contour but don’t sag. Cool to the touch, especially if you opt for enhanced cooling features.
- What It’s Made Of: High-quality memory foam, dense polyfoam, and robust zoned coils. A breathable Tencel cover is standard but can be upgraded to GlacioTex fabric.
- What We Don’t Like: It’s not the easiest mattress to move on due to the memory foam, and the cost of optional upgrades can add up.
- Why It Won Best Cooling: For a hybrid with two memory foam layers, our team was impressed by how little heat the Midnight Luxe retained. The standard model felt breathable and cool, and the optional add-ons are designed to further boost temperature regulation.

The following ratings show how suitable this mattress is for different sleeping positions and sleeper weights. These scores are determined by how well the mattress supports and relieves pressure for each sleeper type.
In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.
Performance

For side sleepers who run hot, finding a great mattress can be a real challenge. Many mattresses that provide sufficient pressure relief also tend to trap heat. The Helix Midnight Luxe avoided that tradeoff in our testing. It had minimal heat retention while still offering excellent cushioning for side sleeping.
How It Performed
Our testing found that the Helix Midnight Luxe was a strong all-around performer. Side sleepers of all body weights gave it high ratings for support. It also rated well among most back sleepers, which is useful for side sleepers who share a bed with a back sleeper or occasionally roll onto their back.

The medium (5) model was the favorite of side sleepers under 130 pounds, the firm (8) model was best for those over 230 pounds, and people in between generally preferred the medium firm (6) option.

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.
Performance
The DLX Premier Hybrid is built around the idea that comfort isn’t one-size-fits-all. You can choose from soft (3), medium soft (4), medium firm (6), and firm (8) options. If your bed partner wants something different, the mattress can have different firmness levels on each side.
For side sleepers, this flexibility makes the DLX Premier Hybrid an appealing option for finding the right blend of pressure relief, support, and overall comfort.
How It Performed
As expected, our testers noticed significant differences between the four designs. Softer options conformed more closely to the body, but nearly all models (except the firmest one) had plenty of cushioning to limit impact around the joints.
Best Mattress for Couples: Layla Hybrid
Best for Couples
8.9/10Test Lab Score
Layla Hybrid
A close-conforming, flippable hybrid with a different firmness on each side.
Key Details
- Who It’s Best For: People who love the feel of memory foam and side sleepers who want some firmness flexibility.
- Feel: Notable pressure relief on both sides with deeper contouring on the softer side.
- What It’s Made Of: High-end, copper-infused memory foam combined with polyfoam and a support core of pocketed coils.
- What We Don’t Like: Weight makes it more difficult to flip, and some side sleepers won’t love the firmness on either side.
- Why It Won Best Mattress for Couples: The dependable hug of memory foam also delivers excellent motion isolation, so bed partners are less likely to notice when the other moves on the mattress.
Scoring & Reviews
The following ratings show how suitable this mattress is for different sleeping positions and sleeper weights. These scores are determined by how well the mattress supports and relieves pressure for each sleeper type.
In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.
Performance
The Layla Hybrid is distinct from other top models because it’s reversible. Both sides have a memory foam top layer, but the amount of contouring depends on whether you use the medium soft (4) or firm (7) surface.
How It Performed
In our testing, the medium soft (4) side of the Layla Hybrid was a hit with side sleepers under 130 pounds. In contrast, the firm (7) side received strong ratings from those over 230 pounds. There wasn’t a consensus among side sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds, some of whom felt neither side was quite right.
What to Consider When Shopping for a Hybrid Mattress for Side Sleepers
The right hybrid mattress can help side sleepers stay comfortable through the night and wake up with fewer pressure-related aches.
There are hundreds of hybrid mattress models on the market, so knowing what to consider can help you zero in on the best option for your needs.
What Makes a Hybrid Mattress Good for Side Sleepers
A hybrid mattress is good for side sleepers if it can cushion the hips and shoulders while keeping the sleep surface level enough for proper spinal alignment. To find the right balance, look for:
- Pressure relief: The top layers in a hybrid should ease pressure around the hips and shoulders.
- Sturdy support: A support core with well-constructed pocketed coils can enhance spinal alignment by keeping you from sagging into the mattress. Quality coils can also improve edge support and motion isolation. Many side sleepers enjoy the added support of zoned coils around the shoulders and hips.
- The right firmness: If the hybrid is too firm, it can irritate your joints. But if it’s too soft, your hips and shoulders can sink down and leave your spine in an uneven position. Look for a firmness level that feels comfortable and avoids these issues.
Sleeping Position and Body Weight
Not all side sleepers need the same amount of firmness and support. The higher your body weight, the greater the risk of excess sinkage. While what feels right is subjective, these recommendations are based on our testing and can serve as a starting point for choosing a firmness level.
| Side Sleeper Weight Range | Firmness Starting Point |
|---|---|
| Less than 130 lbs. | Soft (3) to medium (5) |
| 130 to 230 lbs. | Medium (5) to medium firm (6) |
| More than 230 lbs. | Medium firm (6) to firm (7-8) |
