Diet and exercise modifications can be very important to your obstructive sleep apnea treatment plan. In addition to medical treatments such as continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), consider ways to change your diet and increase your movement and exercise. If you are overweight, losing weight can in some cases reduce the number of obstructive sleep apnea episodes you experience in the night. Eating well and exercising will also help you feel more energetic and productive during the day.
Eat a Mediterranean diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes, and cereal. Choose poultry and fish over beef and pork and limit dairy consumption.
Choose an aerobic exercise that you can do multiple times each week. For example, swimming laps, playing racquetball, walking, or taking a regularly scheduled exercise class.
