The Serta iComfort Standard is a standout when it comes to motion isolation. When a person sleeping on one side of the bed rolls over or gets in or out of bed, their movement is unlikely to disturb a bed partner sleeping on the other side of the bed.

Soft memory foam comfort layers absorb vibrations, and are the reason this mattress isolates motion so well, The Firm model contains firmer foam, so there is more motion transfer, However, even the Firm model is above-average at motion isolation.

We use a body mapping tool to visualize where and how much pressure builds up beneath a person lying on a bed. We found that all three models of the iComfort Standard are above-average when it comes to distributing body weight evenly over the bed’s surface and reducing pressure buildup beneath heavier areas of the body.

Higher pressure relief scores generally translate into less pain and discomfort for sleepers. The softer iComfort Standard models excelled more at relieving pressure, but people should still choose the model for them based on their sleep position and body weight, rather than by pressure relief score.

Memory foam is a mattress material prone to absorbing body heat. However, Serta has taken efforts to offset this tendency in the iComfort by incorporating a cooling cover and graphite-infused memory foam.

Whether the iComfort Standard will feel too hot for you depends on your normal sleep temperature. Those who sleep relatively cool shouldn’t have issues with any of the three models, but sleepers who run hot may only find the Firm model cool enough.

Edge support is an important factor for people who need to use the perimeter of their mattress as leverage when getting in and out of bed. With the iComfort Standard, the Firm model has average edge support and can adequately support most sleepers.

The Plush and Medium models have below-average edge support. While many sleepers won’t notice or feel bothered by this, it may lead to buckling edges for heavier sleepers and feel unstable for those who regularly sit on the edge of the bed.

The deep contouring of soft memory foam can be a double-edged sword. While its “hug” feels comfortable and relieves pressure for many sleepers, the temporary body impressions that form in memory foam can feel like ruts that are hard to get out of when it’s time to move.

The Firm model of the iComfort Standard scored average in terms of ease of movement, and most sleepers won’t have a problem moving on its surface. The Plush and Medium models may provide more resistance, especially to sleepers who already struggle with strength or mobility.

We expect the Medium and Firm Serta iComfort Standard Mattresses to last an average length of time, which is about 6 or 7 years. The estimated lifespan for the Plush model is a bit shorter. The memory foam comfort layers are most likely to degrade first, which could change the feel of the mattress and the level of comfort it provides.
