At SleepFoundation.org, we conduct extensive first-person experience tests on all but a select few products. This hands-on approach allows us to provide accurate, data-driven recommendations for mattresses, pillows, sheets, and other sleep essentials.
Guidelines for our testing methodology are as follows:
Every member of our team brings years of industry experience and knowledge to our hands-on evaluations. In addition to testing products, we’ve spoken to sleep experts and toured manufacturing sites.
Our testers fall into different categories based on body type, sleep position, and personal preferences. This level of diversity helps to ensure our product ratings are holistic and inclusive of all sleepers.
Each type of sleep product is tested using a unique set of performance criteria. We also assign ratings based on feedback from testers who fall into specific categories based on weight and sleep position (i.e. side sleepers who weigh 130 to 230 pounds).
We do not personally test CPAP equipment, anti-snoring mouthguards, supplements, and other medical devices that require a doctor's prescription. Rather than using specific rating criteria, we rely on our team's extensive knowledge of sleep products and medical industry standards to pair each reader with the right devices. These evaluations are also based on material and design quality, features, and other noteworthy product attributes.

Bryte was founded in 2016, producing luxury airbeds with proprietary technology. The brand currently offers three options: the Bryte Balance Signature, the Bryte Balance PRO, and the Bryte Balance PRO Conform. The features and construction vary between models.
The Balance PRO is Bryte’s midrange option in terms of pricing and tech features. Firmness settings range from soft (3) to firm (8), and each sleeper can select their own preferred level. Additional features are designed to enhance pressure relief, provide more targeted contouring and support, share sleep insights, and more.
We evaluated the model in our Seattle Test Lab to assess its performance and determine who it may be a good fit for. We’ll share those results along with additional details that may make a difference in your purchase decision, such as sizing and return options.

Testing Team Takeaways
To test the Bryte Balance PRO Mattress, we had three people on our testing team each take the bed home with them for one week. Here are their initial observations.

“The zone control came in handy for switching positions. I could make the hip and shoulder area a little softer when lying on my side, and I could firm it up when I felt like sleeping on my stomach.”

“I liked the option of getting suggestions and making adjustments using AI in the app. It made selecting the right settings for my body type and sleep position easier, and it’s a convenient way to get sleep tips.”

“Being able to set a separate firmness for my side of the bed is a nice way to get a better balance of contouring and support. But the active pressure relief really takes that to the next level by adjusting automatically if my hips or shoulders are digging in too hard.”

Side Sleepers
Thanks to its personalized feel and active pressure redistribution, the Bryte Balance PRO is an excellent option for many side sleepers. The polyfoam comfort system cushions and cradles sensitive regions, like the hips and shoulders, and the eight customizable firmness zones give side sleepers the option of deeper cradling for specific areas of the body. The ability to adjust to detected pressure in real time is also helpful for those who may shift slightly overnight.
In our tests, team members under 130 pounds were the most impressed. They sunk into the plush comfort system just the right amount. Testers weighing 130 pounds or more were also very satisfied with the range of firmness options and customizable contouring, though they felt they’d benefit from a slightly firmer comfort system.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers are likely to enjoy a comfortable combination of contouring and support on the Bryte Balance PRO. The polyfoam comfort layers cushion the surface, while adjustable firmness zones give back sleepers more options for customizing support to promote spinal alignment, such as increasing the firmness around the lumbar region.
Across weight groups, our testers were able to select settings that they found comfortable and supportive. However, those under 130 pounds gave the mattress the highest marks because the plush comfort system cradled them gently without over-compressing.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers often need extra support, so the Bryte Balance PRO adjustable settings may come in handy. In particular, those who carry extra weight around their midsections may appreciate the option of firming up that region to limit sagging that could otherwise strain the lower back. At the same time, the polyfoam comfort layers prevent the surface from feeling too solid.
When we tested the Bryte Balance PRO in-house, team members who prefer sleeping on their stomach generally felt well supported. However, those over 230 pounds sank deeper into the comfort system than they would have preferred, which made it harder to maintain good posture.
Mattress Performance
In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.
Motion Isolation
9
/ 10
“I didn’t really notice vibrations except when I was actively trying to detect them.” – Logan
The Bryte Balance PRO excels in motion isolation. Its polyfoam comfort system helps dampen vibrations, while the individual air chambers within the core prevent deeper-level motion from spreading across the system.
We used a motion sensor when agitating the surface and recorded some mild transfer of motion. However, our testers reported that they didn’t feel much, if any movement, and the mattress would be unlikely to interfere with their sleep.
Pressure Relief
9.5
/ 10
“Across sleep positions, I noticed there was pressure relief wherever I needed it most.” – Mary
While airbeds often perform well in pressure relief due to their customizability, the Bryte Balance PRO truly stands out. Its polyfoam comfort system provides the necessary surface-level cushioning and cradling. Meanwhile, the air chamber core adds dynamic pressure relief in response to detected pressure buildup, automatically redistributing pressure to help prevent hot spots.
Sleepers can also customize the firmness across eight controllable zones if they experience regular pressure points in one particular region for more personalized conforming and support.
We mapped pressure distribution during our testing and noticed that the customizability and real-time adjustments significantly reduced concentrated pressure points. Our team members also noted that they didn’t experience pressure-related discomfort throughout the evaluation.
Temperature Control
7.5
/ 10
“The Bryte Balance PRO didn’t feel hot to me, but I’ve tried cooler-feeling mattresses.” – Brad
Some heat may linger on the surface of the Bryte Balance PRO, but it’s unlikely to feel excessively warm to most sleepers. Because of this model’s plusher comfort system, sleepers can sink fairly deeply into the polyfoam layers, and that conforming could trap a bit of heat.
To counteract this, the model uses breathable polyfoam and includes phase change material designed to actively transfer away heat — though it is unlikely to fully neutralize temperatures.
In our surface temperature readings, we detected mild heat retention when we removed a heat source. That warmth dissipated fairly quickly. Testers noted that they could feel it, though not enough to impact their sleep.
Edge Support
7
/ 10
“On firmer settings, the edge felt really supportive. Less so on softer settings, although I didn’t feel like I was at risk of slipping off.” – Logan
On firmer settings, the edge of the Bryte Balance PRO will feel supportive to many sleepers. However, they may notice more edge sinkage on softer settings. This is typical with airbeds.
Our testers felt secure enough on most firmness settings to use the full mattress surface without avoiding the edge. When using the softest settings, though, most team members preferred to lie closer to the middle of the bed to feel more stable.
Ease of Movement
8
/ 10
“Changing positions on this mattress was pretty easy. I never felt like I had to restrict my movements.” – Mary
The Bryte Balance PRO has a responsive feel. For many sleepers, this can facilitate movement. Its polyfoam comfort system has a bit of bounce and is quick to respond to position changes so there isn’t a significant lingering body impression for the sleeper to get out of.
During testing, team members found it easy to change positions, get in and out of bed, and move across the surface. While softer settings made movement slightly more difficult, our testers didn’t feel like it would limit their position changes or impact their sleep.
Durability
7.5
/ 10
“This mattress should hold up well. Given the materials and construction, I wouldn’t worry about anything significantly limiting its lifespan.” – Brad
Sleepers can typically expect airbeds to last between 7 and 8 years, and the Bryte Balance PRO should have a similar life expectancy. Foam naturally wears out over time and electronic components can also fail as they age, but the Bryte Balance PRO’s materials and construction are likely to hold up at least as well as the average airbed.
The Bryte Balance PRO is an airbed and smart mattress measuring 14 inches deep. It offers firmness setting options between soft (3) and firm (8), adjustable in small increments. Each side of the mattress can be set to a different firmness level, and regions within the mattress can also be adjusted independently of each other. The Bryte Balance app will guide you through selecting a firmness during setup and fine-tuning it over time.

This model starts with a polyester cover that incorporates phase change material engineered to regulate temperatures. The comfort system on the Bryte Balance PRO is designed for a plusher feel than Bryte’s other models. It contains two layers of polyfoam to cradle the sleeper while allowing airflow and adding some bounce. A transitional layer of polyfoam supports the comfort system and acts as a buffer.
The core uses up to 90 air chambers, depending on the mattress size, that fill or empty to change the firmness. You can make the adjustments through the Bryte Balance app or allow the mattress to adjust automatically in response to detected pressure points. The Bryte Balance PRO also incorporates eight customizable firmness zones that you can adjust for more targeted contouring and support based on your body type and position preferences.
As a smart bed, the Bryte Balance PRO also offers several technology-based features, including sleep data and AI-driven advice through the companion app, a movement feature with synced audio, and a silent wake option that uses movement instead of a traditional alarm.
