Founded in 2016, Bryte produces luxury airbed mattresses with adjustable firmness levels. The Bryte Balance Signature is the brand’s most affordable model.

This airbed’s firmness is customizable with dozens of unique settings between soft (3) and firm (8), and you and your partner can each select a different firmness for your side of the bed. In addition to its customizable design, the mattress automatically adjusts in specific areas of your body to alleviate pressure, produces gentle surface motion to help you relax, and tracks your sleep data.

We’ll explain the Bryte Balance Signature’s design, performance in our in-house testing, sizing, and policies to help you determine if it’s the best smart mattress for you.

Testing Team Takeaways

To test the Bryte Balance Signature Mattress, we had three people on our testing team each take the bed home with them for one week. Here are their initial observations.

“The real-time pressure sensing was a game changer for combination sleeping. Some positions were still more comfortable than others, but I appreciated that the mattress adjusted automatically to limit pressure buildup.”

“I got enough support, but I usually prefer a mattress with a sturdier core. While it’s definitely a surface I can sleep on, it falls short of ideal for me.”

“It can seem like some models throw in extra technology for show, but the Bryte Balance Signature’s advanced features did enhance the overall sleep experience and give me plenty of options.”

Side Sleepers

The Bryte Balance Signature Mattress is a good match for most side sleepers. Its polyfoam comfort system adds cushioning to the surface, while the adjustable firmness lets side sleepers select the feel that gives them the best combination of contouring and support. Additionally, the real-time pressure sensing and redistribution can help limit discomfort around the hips and shoulders, where side sleepers often experience noticeable pressure buildup.

Everyone on our testing team found a setting where they were comfortable on their side, but team members weighing 230 pounds or less had the easiest time finding the right balance. Most favored a feel around medium (5) or medium firm (6).

Despite selecting firmer settings, some testers over 230 pounds reported a less consistent experience finding an option that felt both comfortable and supportive. Many of these testers noted extra compression around their hips and shoulders. However, some side sleepers in this weight range felt as comfortable on the Bryte Balance Signature as their lighter counterparts on the testing team.

Back Sleepers

Many back sleepers appreciate the Bryte Balance Signature’s adjustable support and automatic recalibration. The model’s polyfoam comfort system molds to the lower back, and fine-tuning the firmness of the air chamber core can help back sleepers ensure their spines stay on an even plane. At the same time, the Balance Signature’s ability to sense and adjust for pressure points may help alleviate excessive sinkage around the hips.

Our testers weighing at least 130 pounds had the best experience with back sleeping on this model, followed by those between 130 and 230 pounds. Those over 230 pounds sank in deeper, which made it more difficult to maintain good posture.

Stomach Sleepers

When set to firmer levels, stomach sleepers often get the support they need from the Bryte Balance Signature. Its polyfoam comfort system gives the surface a plush feel, while the real-time pressure adjustments can help limit midsection sinkage.

During testing, team members under 130 pounds gave the mattress high marks. However, those weighing 130 pounds or more noted that their midsections sank a bit — sometimes to an excessive extent.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

8.5 / 10

“I didn’t notice much in the way of vibrations, certainly not enough to wake me up overnight.” – Jeremy

The Bryte Balance Signature isolates motion very well. Its polyfoam layers help absorb vibrations, and the core of up to 90 air chambers may also help localize movement. While the responsivene polyfoam may not eliminate motion to the same extent as slow-responding memory foam, most couples are unlikely to notice each other’s movements.

When we used a sensor to detect vibrations, we observed minimal transfer after dropping a kettlebell on the surface. Our testers also said they barely felt it when a team member moved around beside them.

Pressure Relief

9 / 10

“The way the Bryte Balance Signature dynamically adjusts to pressure points makes it hard to beat in this category. Across sleep positions, the pressure relief stood out to me.” – Mary

Pressure relief is one of the Bryte Balance Signature’s standout selling points. The polyfoam comfort system adds cushioning and contouring. Meanwhile, the adjustable firmness of the core allows for balanced conforming and support that’s more personalized for each individual’s body type and position preference, helping redistribute pressure more evenly. The app will help you select an initial firmness, but you can fine-tune the bed’s feel over time.

The Bryte Balance Signature also offers an active pressure relief feature, which is engineered to sense pressure and redistribute it to limit concentration around core regions like the hips and shoulders.

In our pressure mapping, we saw fairly even dispersal with few hot spots. Team members also reported little to no pressure-related soreness.

Temperature Control

8 / 10

“The mattress surface really didn’t heat up the way many pressure-relieving models do. It hugged my body fairly closely, but it didn’t seem to be trapping warmth.” – Brad

Thanks to its breathable design, the Bryte Balance Signature controls temperatures well. Air can circulate through the open-cell foams to help dissipate body warmth, and the air chambers don’t retain much heat.

Our temperature readings showed that the bed remained at a relatively neutral temperature during hands-on tests, cooling off quickly when we removed a heat source. Team members also commented that they didn’t feel too warm when using the mattress.

Overall, most hot sleepers are likely to find this model suitable.

Edge Support

6.5 / 10

“The Bryte Balance Signature’s edge support was enough for me to use the full surface, but it probably won’t feel as secure to anyone who prefers a softer setting or who weighs more than 230 pounds.” – Jeremy

Edge support is not the Bryte Balance Signature’s greatest strength, though it should suffice for most sleepers. The air chamber core doesn’t provide the sturdy, reinforced edge you might find in hybrids and other coil mattresses. On a firmer setting, the Bryte Balance Signature’s perimeter feels more stable, but sleepers who favor a softer feel may struggle to prioritize plushness versus edge support.

While our testers could lie along the side of the bed regardless of the firmness setting, most felt more secure closer to the center of the mattress.

Ease of Movement

8 / 10

“I rotated through positions like normal without feeling trapped in the bed. It seemed like the material regained its shape quickly.” – Mary

Because of its more responsive polyfoam comfort system, the Bryte Balance Signature is fairly easy to move on. While some sleepers, particularly those over 230 pounds, can sink deeply into the surface, the material doesn’t retain a body impression for long. This can help prevent the “trapped in the bed” sensation some sleepers experience with memory foam.

When our testers performed standard movements on the mattress, such as getting in and out of bed, tossing and turning, and switching positions, they reported exerting little effort. However, they noticed that firmer settings offered the greatest ease of movement.

Durability

7.5 / 10

“Any bed will wear out eventually, but the construction of this one seems solid enough to last for at least an average life expectancy.” – Brad

The Bryte Balance Signature’s lifespan is likely to fall around the average for airbeds, which is 7 to 8 years. Foam degrades over time, and electrical components can also wear out, but we wouldn’t expect this to happen any sooner than with similarly constructed airbeds.

The bed is encased in a stretch-knit polyester cover. Two 2-inch comfort layers of polyfoam shape to the body to help relieve pressure while maintaining a responsive feel. An additional layer of transitional polyfoam acts as a barrier between the comfort system and the core.

The core uses up to 90 distinct air chambers. When you set a firmness level, the chambers adjust accordingly. In addition, the bed can sense pressure buildup and adjust individual chambers in real time to redistribute pressure.

Another key feature is BryteWaves, a gentle surface movement intended to help you relax in bed. Synced audio is also available. In addition, the companion app tracks sleep efficiency, stages, duration, and other key data points.
