SweetNight CoolNest Ultra Mattress Review: Test Lab Ratings

In our tests, the SweetNight CoolNest Ultra proved to have exceptional motion isolation. Its two memory foam layers absorbed nearly all vibration, so movement on the other side of the bed was virtually undetectable.

All three models had fantastic motion isolation, and the 16-inch model earned a rare perfect score in this category.

Motion isolation is important for many couples, especially if either bed partner is a light sleeper or moves a lot in bed.

Our team gave the CoolNest Ultra near-perfect scores for pressure relief. In fact, the 16-inch model earned a perfect 10.

We found that the combination of foam layers excelled at distributing weight evenly, keeping pressure from building up around areas like the lower back, hips, and shoulders.

Side sleepers found this level of cradling and pressure relief to be most supportive, and the mattress also earned solid ratings from some of our testers with arthritis and joint pain.

Objective data from our temperature sensors and subjective feedback from sleepers both showed that the CoolNest Ultra sleeps cooler than the average foam mattress. That said, some heat retention may still occur.

SweetNight incorporates features like aerated foam and gel-infused foam into the CoolNest Ultra to try to limit heat buildup. The mattress still absorbs some heat as the foams mold to your body, but the added airflow should minimize this issue,

Heat retention was most significant on the taller models of the CoolNest Ultra. While the warmth won’t bother every sleeper, it may be a concern for people who tend to sleep hot.

“A downside of the conforming foams is that there’s a lot of sink around the edge. I don’t think I was at risk of falling out of bed, but the perimeter felt pretty unsteady on the 16-inch model.” – Mary

During our testing, there was considerable sinkage around the perimeter of the CoolNest Ultra. This is common with memory foam mattresses, especially those that have a softer firmness level.

While edge support on the 12-inch model was adequate, it was lacking on the 14-inch and 16-inch models. Many sleepers are willing to trade edge support for deeper conforming and pressure relief, but a weaker perimeter can be a problem for people who frequently sit or sleep near the edge of their bed.

“I thought moving around on the 12-inch version of the CoolNest Ultra was pretty standard, but it was trickier on the 14- and 16-inch models. The memory foam hugs your body in a way that can make it harder to turn over or adjust your position.” – Brad

Our testers found that the CoolNest Ultra ranged from about average for ease of movement to clearly below average based on the model.

Softer memory foam conforms closely to the body, but it lacks responsiveness and bounce. That can make it harder to move on the mattress surface. Not surprisingly, we found that moving around was most difficult on the 16-inch model, which is medium soft (4), and it was also a challenge on the 14-inch model.

Lower-scoring performance in this category is most likely to bother people who regularly change their sleeping position during the night.

Although we don’t have long-term data about the durability of the CoolNest Ultra, our analysis suggests it should have a roughly average lifespan. For a foam mattress like this, that usually means around 5 years of nightly use.

The softer models can have a slightly shorter lifespan because their foams may be prone to sagging and surface indentations that affect the overall lifespan.
