Side Sleepers

The Origin LumbarCloud Mattress has a lot to offer side sleepers. The cushioning of the pillow-top combined with the cradling of the memory foam and polyfoam comfort system allow the mattress to adjust nicely to a side sleeper’s curves. Additionally, multiple zoned layers help balance conforming around sensitive regions, like the hips and shoulders, with support around the midsection designed to promote good posture while limiting pressure points.

This mattress is likely to appeal most to side sleepers over 130 pounds since they can sink more deeply into the medium firm (6) surface for more notable pressure relief. Many under 130 pounds will also find the mattress comfortable, though some may prefer a softer surface.

Back Sleepers

Back sleepers, especially those under 230 pounds, may appreciate the Origin LumbarCloud’s targeted support around the lower back. While the surface molds closely to cushion the spine and promote even alignment, targeted reinforcement near the center of the bed limits hip sagging that could otherwise contribute to poor posture.

During our in-house tests, the Origin LumbarCloud Mattress exceeded the expectations of our back-sleeping team members up to 230 pounds, who noted exceptional support. Those over 230 pounds sank in a bit more deeply around their hips, making it slightly more difficult to maintain good posture.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers on our testing team gave the Origin LumbarCloud Mattress solid marks. Its pillow-top design made the surface feel plush against their fronts, and the zoned support limited midsection sinkage for many of our testers.

Our testers under 130 pounds were most satisfied with the mattress, reporting little to no lower back discomfort while lying on the bed. Since this is a medium firm (6) model that conforms to the shape of the sleeper, some testers over 230 pounds felt that their stomachs dipped too deeply into the mattress for optimal spinal alignment.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

7.5 / 10

“This model’s motion isolation was good. I could barely feel any vibrations on the bed.” – Brad

The Origin LumbarCloud offers above-average motion isolation, making this a good mattress for couples

With alpaca wool, memory foam, and polyfoam cushioning the comfort system, the surface absorbs a significant amount of movement instead of transferring it. While a microcoil layer and a pocketed coil core add bounce, which can sometimes contribute to the spread of vibrations, the springs in each system can move independently of their neighbors to limit that effect.

We performed a series of tests to assess the model’s motion isolation and picked up some vibrations with our sensor device. However, team members reported they didn’t feel too much movement when we dropped a kettlebell next to them on the bed.

Pressure Relief

8.5 / 10

“The Origin LumbarCloud Mattress’ pressure relief really stood out to me. I didn’t notice pressure buildup around my shoulders or hips when I slept on my side.” – Colin

Pressure relief is one of the standout characteristics of the Origin LumbarCloud Mattress, allowing it to outperform many medium firm (6) hybrid models.

Its comfort system uses six distinct layers, all of which contribute to the cushy surface. Alpaca wool batting in the pillow-top softens the mattress, zoned memory foam molds to the body while adding targeted support, two layers of polyfoam further redistribute weight, microcoils deepen the contouring, and a final layer of transitional polyfoam creates a plush buffer between the comfort system and support core.

When testers took turns lying on a pressure mapping pad in different positions, we didn’t notice any areas of excessive pressure concentration. Team members also noted that they didn’t feel any pressure-induced hot spots or discomfort.

Temperature Control

7.5 / 10

“I never felt too warm while we were testing the Origin LumbarCloud. Memory foam often traps some heat, but the rest of the mattress seemed breathable enough to counteract that.” – Mary

The Origin LumbarCloud Mattress compares favorably to other hybrid models in terms of temperature control, especially those with this level of contouring. While this mattress contains memory foam, which is often associated with heat retention, it incorporates other components built for cooling and breathability to limit buildup.

The pillow-top uses cashmere blend fabric and alpaca wool batting, which are naturally breathable and temperature-regulating. Gel infusions in the polyfoam layers are engineered to cool the surface, while a graphite infusion is intended to transfer heat away from the sleeper’s body. Additionally, two coil layers add ample airflow so that heat can dissipate.

Edge Support

8 / 10

“The edge support for this mattress won me over. I didn’t sink in very much, and I felt really secure using the perimeter of the mattress.” – Brad

Thanks to a reinforced perimeter, the edge of the Origin LumbarCloud Mattress is quite supportive. This level of stability is accomplished with sturdier coils along the perimeter to limit compression.

Our team members, including individuals over 230 pounds, could sit and lie comfortably along the perimeter of the bed. This may make the bed easier to get into and out of, and extend the usable surface area for couples.

Ease of Movement

7 / 10

“I switched positions like I normally do without feeling too restricted. The contouring did slow me down slightly, but the bounce of the coils made the bed responsive enough for me to move freely.” – Mary

The Origin LumbarCloud Mattress combines contouring and responsiveness, so it performs moderately well in ease of movement. Sleepers can sink into the surface, which might somewhat impede motion. This is particularly true because the Origin LumbarCloud contains memory foam, which is slower to respond than most materials.

That said, this model also incorporates polyfoam designed for buoyancy along with two coil systems to make the surface more responsive.

Our testers noticed that changing positions took mild effort, particularly for those over 230 pounds, who sank in more deeply. But at the same time, they never felt trapped due to the bed’s notable bounce.

Durability

7 / 10

“The Origin LumbarCloud Mattress seems well constructed. I wouldn’t have any concerns about it holding up at least as long as other hybrid models.” – Colin

Most hybrid models average a 6.5- to 7.5-year lifespan, and we expect the Origin LumbarCloud Mattress to meet or exceed that benchmark. The high-profile design and premium materials may help slow the wear and tear. However, foam naturally degrades over time, and pillow-tops often soften with age.

Origin LumbarCloud Mattress Review Breakdown

The Origin LumbarCloud is a medium firm (6) hybrid model. At 14 inches thick, it is considered a high-profile mattress.

A pillow-top cushions the surface. The fabric consists of a cashmere blend for softness and breathability. Alpaca batting quilted inside adds cushioning and additional temperature-regulating properties. Targeted quilting toward the center of the bed is designed for additional surface-level lumbar support.

Underneath the pillow-top rests zoned memory foam built for postural support and pressure relief. Next up, a proprietary gel-infused polyfoam grid is engineered to transfer away heat, redistribute weight, and support the spine. An additional layer of polyfoam incorporates hyper-elastic gel that’s intended to mold to the body and enhance air circulation while adding a more buoyant feel.

Beneath that, a layer of microcoils provides additional contouring, pressure relief, responsiveness, and motion isolation. Airflow through this layer can also help relieve heat buildup. A transitional layer of polyfoam supports the microcoil system, and it incorporates a graphite infusion designed to transfer away heat.

The support core uses individually pocketed coils that move independently of each other to limit the spread of motion despite the added bounce. The system also has reinforced perimeter coils and seven firmness zones with spinal alignment in mind.

Finally, a base layer of polyfoam stabilizes the mattress.
