Founded in San Francisco in 2007, Keetsa has been refining mattress designs for nearly 20 years. The Keetsa Pillow Plus Mattress is a hybrid model that feels remarkably soft and adaptive for a hybrid.

The Pillow Plus has a medium firm (6) firmness level, which makes it appealing to a wide range of sleepers — side and back sleepers in particular. This mattress excels at relieving pressure and isolating motion through the use of memory foam, while also providing the sturdy support that comes with pocketed coils.

We put the Keetsa Pillow Plus Mattress to the test in our Seattle-based lab and sent it home with multiple members of our testing team. Read on to see how this mattress stacked up and whether or not it might be a good fit for your needs.

Testing Team Takeaways

To test the Keetsa Pillow Plus, we had three people on our testing team each take the bed home with them for one week. Here are their initial observations.

“On the Keetsa Pillow Plus, I felt perfectly supported and comfortable. The plusher feel also meant my partner and I didn’t feel each other’s movements.”

Side Sleepers

The Keetsa Pillow Plus is an ideal mattress for many side sleepers. Its pocketed coil support core provides necessary support, while the foam comfort system allows the hips and shoulders to sink into the bed a little bit. As a result, the spine remains aligned and pressure buildup is minimal while you sleep on your side.

While all side sleepers tend to find some comfort on the Keetsa Pillow Plus, those weighing at least 130 pounds report the highest satisfaction scores. Sleepers under 130 pounds may prefer a softer mattress.

Back Sleepers

Back sleepers weighing up to 230 pounds generally feel well-supported on the Keetsa Pillow Plus. The bed’s medium firm (6) feel provides the level of support back sleepers need to prevent their midsection from sinking too deeply into the mattress. At the same time, the mattress feels softer than many hybrids with similar firmness levels, allowing back sleepers to enjoy a slight “hug” from the memory foam.

Our testing found that the Pillow Plus is comfortable for some back sleepers weighing over 230 pounds, but most in this weight group will prefer a firmer mattress.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers generally require the firmest mattresses to feel comfortable, and our tests for the Keetsa Pillow Plus reflect this trend. Side sleepers under 130 pounds found the mattress most comfortable. While stomach sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds found the mattress acceptable, most testers in this range said they would prefer a bed that didn’t feel quite so soft.

Stomach sleepers weighing over 230 pounds should keep shopping. The Pillow Plus feels too soft for this group, and they are likely to sink too deeply and experience lower back strain.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

8 / 10

“This mattress seemed to absorb almost all motion, so I didn’t feel disturbed by movement on the bed.” – Colin

Some hybrid mattresses struggle to isolate motion because coils can be bouncy. That isn’t the case with the Keetsa Pillow Plus. The memory foam and polyfoam comfort layers absorb most movements to prevent ripples of disruptive motion transfer across the surface.

Pressure Relief

8.5 / 10

“As a side sleeper, the Pillow Plus relieved my pressure well. I didn’t notice any pressure buildup beneath my hips or shoulders, which can happen on mattresses that aren’t firm enough.” – Brad

The Pillow Plus Mattress relieved pressure very well for our testing team, especially side sleepers and back sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds. The foam comfort layers cushion the joints and work with the support core to align the spine.

That said, stomach sleepers weighing 130 pounds or more may find this mattress too soft and feel pressure buildup in their lower back.

Temperature Control

7.5 / 10

“The Keetsa Pillow Plus mattress didn’t feel ultra cool, but I slept comfortably without overheating.” – Mary

Hybrid mattresses tend to stay cool more easily thanks to steady airflow through the coil layer. The memory foam comfort layer in this bed collects a bit of body heat, but not enough to make the mattress feel excessively hot for most sleepers.

Edge Support

7.5 / 10

“The edges of the Keetsa Pillow Plus felt pretty sturdy. I think most people would feel secure sitting on or lying near the edge of this bed.” – Brad

As with many hybrid mattresses, the pocketed coils in the Pillow Plus add sturdiness. This includes enhanced perimeter support. The foam layers compress slightly when weight is applied, but the edges shouldn’t sink to an excessive degree. Getting in and out of bed is mostly hassle-free, and slipping off the bed due to a lack of perimeter stability is unlikely to happen.

Ease of Movement

7 / 10

“I was able to roll over and change sleep positions fairly easily, but there was a little more resistance than you usually feel with a hybrid mattress.” – Mary

Hybrid mattresses tend to feel bouncy and easy to move on thanks to their pocketed coils. However, the plush memory foam comfort layer in this bed counteracts some of the bounce. Most people won’t have trouble moving around on this bed, but those who really struggle on memory foam may want to opt for a bed that contains more responsive materials.

Durability

7 / 10

Hybrid mattresses last an average of 6 to 8 years. Generally, the foam layers in a hybrid begin to degrade first, while the coils remain strong. The Pillow Plus contains memory foam, which is not as durable as latex or dense polyfoam, so we expect this model to last an average length of time — about 7 years

The cover is a quilted cotton blend that contains a fiberglass-free carbon rayon fire barrier. The top comfort layer of the mattress consists of fiber fill, which is quilted into the cover for extra plushness.

Beneath the quilted cover and fire barrier sits a memory foam comfort layer. This layer conforms to the body, giving the mattress a softer feel. Beneath the memory foam layer is a polyfoam comfort layer that helps relieve pressure. High-density transitional polyfoam adds extra cushioning while creating a buffer between your body and the pocketed coil support core.
