At SleepFoundation.org, we conduct extensive first-person experience tests on all but a select few products. This hands-on approach allows us to provide accurate, data-driven recommendations for mattresses, pillows, sheets, and other sleep essentials.
Guidelines for our testing methodology are as follows:
Every member of our team brings years of industry experience and knowledge to our hands-on evaluations. In addition to testing products, we’ve spoken to sleep experts and toured manufacturing sites.
Our testers fall into different categories based on body type, sleep position, and personal preferences. This level of diversity helps to ensure our product ratings are holistic and inclusive of all sleepers.
Each type of sleep product is tested using a unique set of performance criteria. We also assign ratings based on feedback from testers who fall into specific categories based on weight and sleep position (i.e. side sleepers who weigh 130 to 230 pounds).
We do not personally test CPAP equipment, anti-snoring mouthguards, supplements, and other medical devices that require a doctor's prescription. Rather than using specific rating criteria, we rely on our team's extensive knowledge of sleep products and medical industry standards to pair each reader with the right devices. These evaluations are also based on material and design quality, features, and other noteworthy product attributes.
The EGOHOME Black 14-inch Mattress is an all-foam model that excels at relieving pressure. This mattress is especially well suited to couples, side sleepers, and shoppers on a budget.

Side Sleepers
During our hands-on tests for the EGOHOME Black, the highest ratings came from side sleepers.
Conforming foam cushions the hips and shoulders, relieving pressure that can easily build up when you sleep on your side. By allowing these heavier areas to sink into the mattress a bit, the EGOHOME Black promotes spinal alignment among side sleepers.
However, those that weigh over 230 pounds may want to keep looking. The EGOHOME Black Mattress was too soft for most side sleepers on our team in this weight range.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers on our team up to 130 pounds awarded high ratings to the EGOHOME Black Mattress. For this group, the mattress is firm and supportive enough to provide a secure surface that promotes spinal alignment. While the bed still hugs a bit, it doesn’t allow back sleepers to sink in too deeply.
Back sleepers who weigh 130 pounds or more are likely to feel less comfortable. While some back sleepers in this weight group will feel comfortable on the EGOHOME Black Mattress, most didn’t receive enough support and sank too much. The heavier a back sleeper is, the less likely they are to feel supported. The firm or hybrid EGOHOME Black Mattress may be a better option for this group.
Stomach Sleepers
Based on our team’s findings, stomach sleepers under 130 pounds should get the support they need from this EGOHOME Black model. Heavier stomach sleepers may notice excessive sinkage around the neck and lower back, and this can cause pressure and soreness to build in these areas.
If you’re a stomach sleeper who weighs 130 pounds or more, chances are you’ll be better off with a more supportive mattress. Both the firm all-foam and hybrid EGOHOME Black models should be a better fit.
Mattress Performance
In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.
Motion Isolation
9
/ 10
“The EGOHOME Black provides top-notch motion isolation. I could barely feel any movement, even with someone getting in and out of bed next to me.” – Logan
The all-foam EGOHOME Black Mattress provides excellent motion isolation. Thick foam layers absorb movement and prevent it from transferring across the surface of the mattress.
Motion isolation is one area where the all-foam EGOHOME Black has a decisive edge over the hybrid design. You and your partner should be able to sleep soundly on this mattress without disturbing the other person.
Pressure Relief
9
/ 10
“As a side sleeper, sometimes foam mattresses cause soreness in my hips or back, but the EGOHOME Black stayed very comfortable all night long.” – Brad
A deep, even contour from the adaptive foam is a major reason this mattress excels at relieving pressure. The EGOHOME Black Mattress “hugs” the body, giving many sleepers the sensation of sleeping “in,” rather than “on,” the bed.
The close conforming of this mattress is ideal for most sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds, especially side sleepers. Back and stomach sleepers weighing 130 pounds or more might sink too much and experience extra pressure buildup as a result.
Temperature Control
7
/ 10
“Some foam mattresses make me wake up in a sweat, but I never felt too warm on the EGOHOME Black. At the same time, it also didn’t feel quite as cool as some hybrid beds we’ve tested.” – Mary
Our testing found that the EGOHOME Black Mattress ranks about average for temperature regulation. The bed will feel comfortable to most sleepers, but those who tend to sleep hot may want to opt for a hybrid model, instead.
All-foam beds commonly retain heat because polyfoam layers can be dense. To counteract this tendency, the EGOHOME Black is constructed with a breathable graphene cover and cooling gel and copper infusions in the comfort system.
Edge Support
6.5
/ 10
“I could feel the foam around the bed’s edges compress some under my body weight, but I also felt comfortable and secure sleeping near the perimeter.” – Brad
All-foam mattresses tend to have edges that compress excessively compared to innerspring or hybrid mattresses, and that rule remains true here. Our testing team members didn’t find the edges to be exceptionally soft, and no one felt like they were going to roll off the bed during the night, but perimeter support is limited at best.
Ease of Movement
7
/ 10
“Even though I found this mattress to be comfortable, there were a couple moments of resistance when I changed sleeping positions during the night.” – Mary
Our testers felt they could easily get in and out of this bed or move around on the surface. However, combination sleepers reported that changing positions took a little more effort. Since the comfort layers are plush and adaptive, some resistance is to be expected.
If you find the plush, “hugging” nature of adaptive foam restrictive when trying to move on a bed’s surface, the EGOHOME Black hybrid model may be a better option than the brand’s all-foam models.
Durability
7
/ 10
“Although durability can’t be directly measured, the high profile of this mattress makes me feel confident that it will last longer than comparable thinner models.” – Logan
On average, foam mattresses last 6 or 7 years before the foam degrades and support is compromised. We predict the EGOHOME Black Mattress will last for an average amount of time or longer, thanks to its 14-inch profile and thick, high-density polyfoam support layer. The 10-year, limited warranty also adds a sense of confidence about durability.
The all-foam EGOHOME Black 14-inch Mattress has a medium (5) firmness level. Other EGOHOME Black Mattress models include a hybrid option, a firm all-foam model, and 12-inch thick versions of both hybrid and all-foam models.

The cover is composed of graphene-blend fabric. Graphene is a specialty fiber infused into the cover intended to keep the bed’s surface cool and resistant to bad smells.
This mattress contains three comfort layers. The top layer is made of adaptive polyfoam, which hugs the body and has been infused with both gel and copper to reduce heat, moisture, and odor build-up. A second comfort layer made of AdaptiFoam provides additional cushioning, but also pushes back with latex-like responsiveness. A gel-infused transitional foam layer rounds out the comfort system.
The support core consists of high-density polyfoam meant to stabilize the entire mattress. At 14 inches thick, this is considered a high-profile design.
The 14-inch EGOHOME Black Mattress is available in all six standard mattress sizes. Additional options, such as split styles, are not available at this time.
