At SleepFoundation.org, we conduct extensive first-person experience tests on all but a select few products. This hands-on approach allows us to provide accurate, data-driven recommendations for mattresses, pillows, sheets, and other sleep essentials.
Guidelines for our testing methodology are as follows:
Every member of our team brings years of industry experience and knowledge to our hands-on evaluations. In addition to testing products, we’ve spoken to sleep experts and toured manufacturing sites.
Our testers fall into different categories based on body type, sleep position, and personal preferences. This level of diversity helps to ensure our product ratings are holistic and inclusive of all sleepers.
Each type of sleep product is tested using a unique set of performance criteria. We also assign ratings based on feedback from testers who fall into specific categories based on weight and sleep position (i.e. side sleepers who weigh 130 to 230 pounds).
We do not personally test CPAP equipment, anti-snoring mouthguards, supplements, and other medical devices that require a doctor's prescription. Rather than using specific rating criteria, we rely on our team's extensive knowledge of sleep products and medical industry standards to pair each reader with the right devices. These evaluations are also based on material and design quality, features, and other noteworthy product attributes.
The Origin Adapt Hybrid provides strong all-around performance at an accessible price-point. Its blend of foam layers relieves pressure and isolates motion with a medium firm feel that delivers comfort to a wide range of sleepers.

Testing Team Takeaways
To test the Origin Adapt Hybrid Mattress, we had three people on our testing team each take the bed home with them for one week. Here are their initial observations.

“What I liked most about the Origin Adapt Hybrid was how it cradled my hips and shoulders without feeling overly plush. I got the joint support I needed without sinking into the mattress.”

“Like Jeremy, I’m a side sleeper, and I agree with what he said about cushioning around key pressure points. The Origin Adapt Hybrid felt great for my spinal alignment, and I also liked how well it minimized motion transfer.”

“I got a ton of support from the Origin Adapt Hybrid when lying on my back, and sufficient support on my stomach. But I think people with a higher body weight will find that the mattress is too soft to keep their body properly aligned as they sleep.”

Side Sleepers
Our testing team found that the Origin Adapt Hybrid Mattress offered above-average support for side sleepers. Our analysis showed that the highest degree of comfort and support was experienced by side sleepers weighing between 130 and 230 pounds, but the Origin Adapt Hybrid also felt comfortable for side sleepers with body weights above and below that range.
The memory foam layers allow the Origin Adapt Hybrid to contour to the hips and shoulders, relieving impact and giving side sleepers the comfort they need for a good night’s sleep. At the same time, the denser polyfoams and thick coils keep side sleepers from sinking excessively into the mattress.
This balance between cushioning and pushback was the driving force behind the high ratings for the Origin Adapt Hybrid from the side sleepers on our team.
Back Sleepers
During our testing, the Origin Adapt Hybrid proved to be a solid option for back sleepers who weigh up to 230 pounds. In particular, this mattress received standout ratings from back sleepers under 130 pounds.
Because the mattress doesn’t permit too much sinkage, most back sleepers found that they could keep their body on an even plane while also getting comfortable support for their lower back.
That said, back sleepers over 230 pounds in our testing gave below-average support scores to the Origin Adapt Hybrid Mattress. These sleepers experienced more sinkage, especially around the midsection, which made it harder to rest comfortably in a well-aligned sleep posture.
Stomach Sleepers
Based on our test results, the Origin Adapt Hybrid is best suited for stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds. With a lower body weight, these sleepers don’t push as deeply into the foam layers, and that allowed the Origin Adapt Hybrid to keep their midsection in a steady alignment with the rest of the body.
Stomach sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds received adequate support from this mattress, but most said that they would feel more comfortable on a slightly firmer bed.
The lowest ratings came from stomach sleepers over 230 pounds who felt that there was too much contouring and sinkage around the hips and abdomen. Although they felt a little support, they were almost universal in expressing a preference for a mattress with more firmness.
Mattress Performance
In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.
Motion Isolation
8.5
/ 10
“For a hybrid mattress, the Origin Adapt Hybrid was surprisingly effective at isolating motion. Our tests showed few ripple effects, and when lying on the mattress, I could barely notice movement on the other side.” – Jeremy
In both our Test Lab and actual bedrooms, our team found that the Origin Adapt Hybrid kept motion transfer to a minimum.
This mattress has limited bounce, so our testers didn’t feel a springy rebound effect when moving on the mattress surface. On top of that, the memory foam layers absorb movement, further keeping vibrations at bay.
Strong motion isolation makes the Origin Adapt Hybrid a good fit for couples, especially if either bed partner is easily awakened or tends to move around a lot during the night.
Pressure Relief
9
/ 10
“The arrangement of multiple foam layers clearly pays off in terms of pressure relief. As a side sleeper, the contouring was right in the Goldilocks zone — just enough for comfortable cushioning, but without bothersome sinkage.” – Colin
Pressure relief was a standout performance category for the Origin Adapt Hybrid during our testing. Our team could feel the moderate contouring of the foam layers, especially the two layers of memory foam in the pillow-top design.
For the majority of our testers, this contouring didn’t go too far since the transitional polyfoam layers prevented sagging and sinkage.
The end result was excellent pressure relief for most of our testing team, although back and stomach sleepers over 230 pounds generally felt that the mattress was a touch too plush.
Temperature Control
7
/ 10
“This was far from the coolest mattress I’ve slept on, but it also didn’t get too hot. The Origin Adapt Hybrid is built with a handful of cooling features, but I’m not sure how many of those really made a noticeable difference for me. ” – Mary
Across our testing team, the Origin Adapt Hybrid rated as about average for temperature control. Most sleepers said that they could feel some heat collect over the course of the night, but it generally wasn’t enough to disturb their sleep.
The design of the Origin Adapt Hybrid includes multiple materials meant to promote cooler sleep. These include bamboo- and gel-infused foams, a breathable Tencel cover, and a support core that allows airflow through its coils.
However, these materials are largely counterbalanced by memory foam’s natural tendency to retain heat. As a result, we found that most people will stay at a comfortable temperature on the Origin Adapt Hybrid, but it may not be ideal for hot sleepers.
Edge Support
6.5
/ 10
“The Origin Adapt Hybrid was definitely weakest around the perimeter. It wasn’t totally unstable, but I could notice a lot more sinkage near the edge.” – Colin
We found the edge support on the Origin Adapt Hybrid to be about average or a bit below average. Foam materials are almost universally weakest near the edges, and that held true on this mattress. The sinkage near the edge was most apparent when sitting on the edge of the mattress (such as to tie your shoes).
For most of our testers, the limited edge support wasn’t a major issue. While there was more compression around the edges, it didn’t cause anyone to accidentally roll out of bed. However, it may be more of a problem for people over 230 pounds or those who need a firm edge because of physical mobility limitations.
Ease of Movement
6.5
/ 10
“Even though there isn’t excess sinkage on the Origin Adapt Hybrid, there’s not much bounce, either. That made it a bit tougher for me to switch from sleeping on my left side to my right side.” – Jeremy
The thick foam layers of the Origin Adapt Hybrid can impede movement on the mattress surface. This is a common concern with mattresses with memory foam since the material is so slow to retake its original shape.
The coils and polyfoam layers give this mattress stability and prevent a “quicksand” feeling, but our testers didn’t feel much springiness or bounce. That led to below-average ratings for ease of movement, which is most likely to affect combination sleepers who frequently shift between different sleeping positions.
Durability
7
/ 10
“I don’t have a crystal ball to know for sure how well this mattress will hold up over the long-term, but it felt solid and secure to me. Our analysis of the internal layers suggest that you can expect a normal lifespan for the Origin Adapt Hybrid.” – Mary
Without long-term data, we can’t fully predict the durability of the Origin Adapt Hybrid Mattress. However, our testing and materials breakdown point to a lifespan that is comparable to other hybrid models. This means you should expect this mattress to offer quality performance for 5 to 7 years. The company does include a lifetime warranty that offers a remedy if the mattress breaks down prematurely (although the warranty does not cover standard wear and tear).
The Origin Adapt Hybrid Mattress is 12 inches tall and has a firmness level of medium firm, or a 6 on our firmness scale of 1 to 10.
The top part of the mattress cover is made with the company’s SnowTencel fabric, which is 35% Tencel and 65% polyester. Around the sides, the cover is 100% cotton. These materials create an airy, lightweight, and soft exterior.

The mattress has eight different internal layers. The top three layers — one made with breathable wool batting, one with plush bamboo-infused memory foam, and another with memory foam — are encased in a sleek pillow-top. These memory foam layers enable the mattress to contour to the body and isolate motion on the mattress surface.
The next layer is made with a dense polyfoam that helps limit sinkage. Beneath that is another layer of polyfoam that is gel-infused and formulated in the company’s HexaGrid style, which is intended to provide extra cushioning for the back. Below that is a polyfoam layer infused with graphite that adds stability and is engineered to resist heat buildup.
The support core includes a thick layer of steel coils that are individually wrapped to allow them to better react to the body’s weight distribution while limiting motion transfer. Below the coils is a final layer of polyfoam for structural support and shock absorption.
The Adapt Hybrid Mattress is fiberglass-free, and all of the foam materials are certified by CertiPUR-US to be free of chemicals known to be hazardous.
With the Origin Adapt Hybrid, you can choose from six standard mattress sizes. Additional sizing options such as split styles or RV-specific designs are not available.
