Avocado specializes in affordable sleep products made from organic, non-toxic, and natural materials. As a Certified B Corporation, this company implements socially and environmentally conscious practices, including a carbon negative supply chain.
Although the company initially gained acclaim for their selection of organic and vegan mattresses, Avocado also offers two eco-friendly pillows to help you get a restful night’s sleep.
The Avocado Green Pillow is the company’s flagship pillow model. Handmade in the U.S. from completely organic materials, this pillow comes in three sizes and features an adjustable loft design and a washable protective outer cover.
The Avocado Molded Latex Pillow features a supportive, solid latex core. It is also available in three sizes and handmade in the U.S.
We’ll include useful information on both of Avocado’s pillow models for the sake of comparison, but we’ll focus on the Avocado Green Pillow. To help sleepers determine if this is the right pillow for them, we’ll take a closer look at its materials, price-point, performance, and customer service policies.
The Avocado Green Pillow is a completely organic pillow made with shredded latex and natural kapok fiber fill. As a pillow constructed with organic materials, a washable outer cover, and an adjustable loft design, the Avocado Green Pillow represents an excellent value.
Our sleep testers found the Avocado Green Pillow to have outstanding durability, conforming comfort, and strong temperature regulation. However, we found its one firmness option to be limiting. While this pillow performed well for side and back sleepers, some of our stomach sleep testers found the pillow to be a bit too lofty and dense for comfortable stomach sleeping.
Overall, the Avocado Green Pillow is a premium pillow for eco-conscious sleepers who don’t want to break the bank. If you’re on the fence about the Avocado Green Pillow, it ships for free and comes with a generous 100-night sleep trial so you can try it out in your own bed.
Like the company’s mattresses, Avocado’s pillows are constructed with a careful eye towards sustainability.
The flagship Avocado Green Pillow features a completely organic construction. The interior of the pillow contains shredded GOLS organic certified latex and GOTS organic certified kapok fibers. With an organic cotton jersey liner, you can add or remove as much of the pillow’s interior material to customize its loft to your liking. An outer zippered cover made from GOTS organic certified quilted cotton protects the pillow and can be easily removed for cleaning.
The Avocado Molded Latex Pillow offers a firmer sleep surface for side and back sleepers. Like the company’s flagship pillow, the Avocado Molded Latex pillow uses a GOTS organic certified cotton cover. The interior consists of a molded, charcoal-infused, solid latex core. While the pillow’s core isn’t organic, it’s certified by the eco-INSTITUT to be low in emissions and hazardous substances.
Both of the company’s pillows are available in standard, queen, and king sizes.

Avocado uses premium and organic materials to help sleepers get a better night’s sleep. To see how it stacks up against the competition, we’ll take a closer look at how the Avocado Green Pillow performs with our sleep testers.
Overall, we found that the Avocado Green Pillow’s high quality materials and craftsmanship impart incredible durability and an above-average lifespan. The shredded latex and kapok fiber interior offers superb contouring that cradles and supports the head and neck. This pillow is also a good choice for hot sleepers, as the Avocado Green Pillow materials sleep relatively cool.
That said, there are some potential drawbacks that shoppers should consider. Though the pillow has an adjustable loft, there is only one firmness option. Additionally, the Avocado Green Pillow has a fair amount of off-gassing odor after unboxing.
With the combination of quality materials and sturdy construction, the Avocado Green Pillow offers above-average durability. The pillow’s removable outer cotton cover also helps protect the Avocado Green Pillow.
One downside of the Avocado Green Pillow is its lack of firmness options. This pillow only has one option available, which corresponds to a medium firmness. However, its loft can be manually adjusted by adding or removing fill material, giving sleepers more options in terms of height and support.
Some pillows lose their shape over time. Although the shredded latex provides resilient loft, the kapok fibers in the pillow’s interior have a tendency to flatten. Sleepers may need to fluff the pillow regularly to help it maintain its shape.
Moldability refers to how pliable a pillow is. The importance of this can be a bit subjective depending on what you’re looking for in a pillow. Sleepers who like to cuddle with their pillow are more likely to want a highly moldable pillow, while those looking for firm neck or leg support will need a pillow that is more dense. The Avocado Green Pillow is somewhere in the middle. Its shredded and fibrous interior is relatively malleable but also fairly dense.
Certain materials such as foam and latex have a tendency to closely conform to your shape when you apply weight. Made with shredded latex, the Avocado Green Pillow is exceptionally contouring.
We found the latex and kapok fibers to be reasonably cool and comfortable even for hot sleepers.
Despite its organic and eco-INSTITUT-certified label, the Avocado Green Pillow is not immune to off-gassing. The pillow emits a noticeable, persistent smell after unboxing that may be unpleasant for those sensitive to odor.
Sleep style and body weight are personal attributes that can impact the performance of your pillow. We’ll break down how our different sleep testers evaluated the Avocado Green Pillow in relation to their weight and preferred sleep position.
Side sleepers typically need a medium to high loft pillow that’s moderately moldable and supportive. The Avocado Green Pillow performs quite well for side sleepers. With an adjustable loft, you can alter the thickness of your pillow to suit your shape. However, side sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds may need a firmer pillow that offers more support for the neck and shoulders.
Back sleepers of all weights enjoyed the feel of the Avocado Green Pillow. If you like to sleep on your back, it’s important that your pillow offers enough support to the head and neck to help minimize snoring, without pushing the head too far forward. The Avocado Green Pillow’s lofty design works well for back sleepers, with the option to remove filling so sleepers can customize the height of the pillow to their needs. The combination of latex and kapok filling provided excellent contouring to cradle the head and relieve pressure from the neck and shoulders.
The Avocado Green Pillow received lower marks from our stomach sleeping testers. Pillow loft is typically the greatest concern for those who sleep on their stomachs. Generally, high and even medium loft pillows can strain the neck and spine of stomach sleepers. While this pillow can work for stomach sleepers, our testers gave this pillow only average scores for comfort. Keep in mind that you can adjust the loft, however, you may find yourself removing quite a bit of the pillow’s interior stuffing if you’re a stomach sleeper who prefers a flatter pillow.
