The Helix Midnight Luxe is a smartly designed and well-built hybrid mattress that earned our award for the Best Mattress Overall for 2026. The Midnight Luxe stood out to our testing team because of its strong all-around performance, which makes it appealing to a wide range of sleepers.

The Helix Midnight Luxe combines different materials to create a balanced feel with a firmness level of medium firm (6). Its memory foam layers isolate motion and relieve pressure around pain points. A support core of zoned pocketed coils provides sturdiness and edge support, and breathable materials help keep the mattress cool through the night.

The Helix Midnight Luxe features a hybrid design with multiple layers adding up to a height of 14 inches. Its construction incorporates different design elements to enhance its performance across multiple categories.

The Midnight Luxe’s top two layers are made of memory foam, a material best known for its ability to comfortable contour to the body and alleviate pressure around joints. Memory foam also excels at motion isolation, making the Midnight Luxe a good fit for couples

In addition to memory foam, the mattress includes a layer of zoned polyfoam that boosts support under the hips and shoulders. For an upgrade fee, an optional ErgoAlign layer is available for extra lumbar and hip support.

The support core is made with 8-inch coils that add stability, bounce, and edge support. These coils are zoned to feel sturdier beneath the midsection for targeted torso and hip support, and reinforced along the perimeter to prevent excessive sinkage when you get in and out of bed.

Cooling features, including gel-infused memory foam and a breathable Tencel cover, are intended to prevent heat buildup. Optional add-ons for extra cooling include a heat-dissipating GlacioTex cover and graphite ribbons interspersed in the top layers of the mattress.

Our testing team found that the high-quality construction of the Helix Midnight Luxe resulted in solid performance across the board. Based on our evaluation, it is best for side sleepers and back sleepers who want a mattress with contouring for pressure relief without excessive sinkage.

Beyond the mattress itself, the Helix Midnight Luxe is also a top pick because of Helix’s customer-friendly policies, including free shipping in the contiguous United States, a 120-night sleep trial with free returns, and a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.

How We Determine Our Mattress Rankings

Our Performance Criteria

When we evaluate mattresses in our in-house Test Lab, our methodology involves rating performance in the categories that have the biggest impact on sleeper satisfaction.

  • Motion isolation: A mattress with good motion isolation prevents vibrations from spreading across the surface, and we measure it with a tool called a vibrometer. Motion isolation is important for couples who want to keep sleeping soundly, even if there’s movement on the other side of the bed.
  • Temperature control: A great mattress resists overheating to help you avoid waking up in a sweat. To test this, we intentionally warm up the mattress and then use a thermometer to see how quickly it can dissipate the heat.
  • Pressure relief: Our testing team analyzes pressure relief by linking a computer to a body-mapping pad on the mattress surface. When a sleeper lies down on the mattress, the pad lights up to show areas of excessive impact. Mattresses that contour to the body tend to deliver the best results during pressure relief tests.
  • Durability: While we can’t keep a mattress in our Test Lab for years, we can carefully assess its construction during initial examinations. Quality of materials is the biggest factor affecting durability. On average, a good mattress should last about 7 years with consistent nightly use.
  • Ease of movement: This category indicates whether it’s a challenge to move around on the mattress surface. We test this by putting a kettlebell on the mattress and seeing how quickly the top layers spring back into position when the kettlebell is removed. We also receive subjective feedback about ease of movement from our in-home testers.
  • Edge support: To determine if a mattress has strong edge support, we have testers sit and lie down near the bed’s perimeter. We also place weights around the edge and measure how much sinkage occurs. Strong edge support is important for using the whole mattress surface and can be particularly important for people with limited mobility.

Whether a mattress is a good fit for an individual depends on their weight and whether they sleep on their side, back, or stomach (or a combination of the three). For that reason, our methodology involves having testers of different body weights and sleeping positions try out each mattress. This generates useful data about how well a mattress can support different types of sleepers.

Our Selection Process

To select our Best Mattress Overall, we started by reviewing our mattress database, which includes more than 1,000 different models. We narrowed that down to a list of 100 contenders, weeding out any mattresses that received an overall rating under 8.0 or showed obvious drawbacks in our testing.

Out of that 100, we look for mattresses that demonstrate strong performance during hands-on tests, come from brands with reputable customer service, and offer compelling value for the price. During this phase, we reviewed comments from our network of in-home testers, who highlight benefits and drawbacks that they’ve discovered over months of using a mattress in their own bedroom.

Our team then reevaluated the top contenders to gather fresh feedback from a new round of hands-on testing. Data from our Test Lab and real-world field testers included perspectives from sleepers of all different body weights and sleeping positions.

In total, we took our list from 100 down to about two dozen top picks. After much debate and discussion, our mattress experts chose the Helix Midnight Luxe for the best overall spot.

Why the Helix Midnight Luxe Won

The Helix Midnight Luxe won our award for the Best Mattress Overall because it delivers impressive performance in nearly every key category. Cushioned with two layers of memory foam, the Midnight Luxe earned standout scores for pressure relief and motion isolation.

Robust zoned coils earned the mattress high marks for edge support and durability, and we also found that the overall design allowed resists heat retention and feels responsive enough on the surface to promote easy movement.

The medium firm (6) feel of the Midnight Luxe worked well for testers of diverse weights and sleeping positions, giving it the wide appeal that we look for in a “best mattress” selection. The solid ratings from couples and hot sleepers only broadened that appeal.

Impressive test results for the Helix Midnight Luxe don’t mean it’s the perfect mattress for everyone. It may not offer the right feel for people who want a really firm bed, including some back and stomach sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds. It’s also not ideal for those who want a really bouncy mattress.

But in the big picture, the Helix Midnight Luxe is a complete mattress without any glaring drawbacks or weak points, which helps it stand out from the crowd.

While other mattresses also had admirable ratings, none performed at the same level of across-the-board performance. For all of these reasons, our testing team concluded that the Helix Midnight Luxe was most worthy of the top spot for the Best Mattress Overall in 2026.
