Founded in 1995, Brooklyn Bedding started selling mattresses directly to consumers online in 2008, making it one of the first companies to launch into this rapidly growing space. Since then, the company has continued to expand operations at its manufacturing facility in Phoenix, Arizona. Brooklyn Bedding’s current product line includes mattresses across a wide range of price-points.

In this comparison, we take a closer look at four popular models: the CopperFlex, the Signature Hybrid, the Aurora Luxe, and the ThermoBalance. We look at how these mattresses are built, the key differences in their sizing and performance, and our testing team’s recommendations for choosing the best mattress for your needs.

Our Testing Team’s Take

Hands-on testing drives our process. Based in Seattle, our Test Lab team has evaluated nearly 2,000 mattresses over the past decade.

Our methodology for finding the best mattresses includes gathering hard data and obtaining feedback from individual testers. Technology in our Test Lab measures qualities like heat retention and pressure buildup, while our testers tell us give insight into support, comfort, and other elements of performance.

Our team and our network of field testers include people with diverse sleeping positions and body weights, giving us a full range of insights about what works for different sleepers.

We draw on all of this information when reviewing and comparing mattresses, and this is what we found when analyzing four popular models from Brooklyn Bedding.

Our Verdict

Our team found that each of these Brooklyn Bedding models brings something different to the table.

The CopperFlex provides excellent value and gives you the choice between all-foam and hybrid options, both of which have a firmness level of medium firm (6). This is a compact, budget-friendly option that delivers quality support for most side and back sleepers.

Talks in his sleep

“As a stomach sleeper, I tended to sleep best on the firmer models of the Signature Hybrid, Aurora Luxe, and ThermoBalance. These all had a robust feel that stopped my midsection from sinking too deeply into the mattress. With my spine in a neutral position, I could sleep soundly without aches in my lower back.”

The Signature Hybrid also offers a compelling return on investment with a price-point that’s more accessible than most similarly designed hybrids on the market. It comes in medium soft (4), medium firm (6), and firm (8) models, giving you flexibility to find the right design for your sleep needs.

The Aurora Luxe is a taller hybrid and incorporates more features that enhance its performance. Our testers were especially impressed with its temperature regulation, which can be attributed to its various cooling materials. With the Aurora Luxe, the firmness options include medium soft (4), medium firm (6), and firm (7).

The ThermoBalance is a pricier model with specialty materials and luxury design elements that boost its pressure relief, temperature control, and motion isolation. This mattress also comes with multiple firmness options, so you can choose from medium soft (4), medium firm (6), and firm (7) models.

Back pain

“I like the responsiveness of the hybrid models since that makes it easier for me to adjust my sleeping position. I appreciated the performance of the Signature Hybrid but also really valued the durable edges and cooling of the Aurora Luxe and the ThermoBalance.”

If you’re on a tight budget, either the CopperFlex or Signature Hybrid will be your best bet. These mattresses offer dependable performance without breaking the bank. If you prefer an all-foam mattress, the CopperFlex Memory Foam is your pick.

If you like having firmness options and want a taller mattress with more layers, the Aurora Luxe or ThermoBalance are both strong choices. Both were highly rated for temperature regulation, making them a good match for hot sleepers.

Most side and back sleepers can sleep comfortably on any of these mattresses provided they choose the right firmness level for their weight and sleeping position.

People over 230 pounds and stomach sleepers may get more comfort and support from one of the firmer options (7-8 on the firmness scale), making the Signature Hybrid, Aurora Luxe, or ThermoBalance a potentially better choice.

CopperFlex Breakdown

The CopperFlex comes in all-foam and hybrid options, both of which are 12 inches tall and have a firmness level of medium firm (6).

The CopperFlex Memory Foam Mattress has a 1-inch layer of adaptive polyfoam quilted into the cover. The second layer is 1.5 inches of memory foam that contours to the body and isolates motion. The memory foam is infused with copper intended to reduce heat buildup. A .75-inch layer of responsive polyfoam rounds out the comfort system.

The transition layers include 3 inches of firmer polyfoam and .75 inches of polyfoam engineered to give more support under the lumbar region. The support core is 5 inches of dense polyfoam.

In the CopperFlex Hybrid, the comfort system includes two foam layers. One consists of 1.5 inches of adaptive polyfoam quilted in the cover, and the other is .75 inches of copper-infused memory foam.

The hybrid has a 1-inch polyfoam transition layer above 8 inches of pocketed coils. The coils are reinforced around the edge and rest on a .75-inch layer of base polyfoam for added stability.

Signature Hybrid Breakdown

The Signature Hybrid comes in three firmness levels, including medium soft (4), medium firm (6), and firm (8). All three have the same height of 13.25 inches.

Two layers of responsive polyfoam, each .75 inches tall, are quilted into the cover, which is made with a polyester blend that includes GlacioTex fibers designed for temperature neutrality.

The third layer is 1 inch of gel-infused memory foam, and the fourth layer is 1 inch of supportive polyfoam. These four layers make up the comfort system, which will contour more or less depending on the firmness level you select.

The transition layer is 1 inch of polyfoam, and the support core includes 8-inch pocketed coils and .75 inches of base polyfoam.

You can upgrade the Signature Hybrid with an optional pillow-top that includes .75 inches of ThermoPhase polyfoam, which contains phase change material (PCM) designed to draw heat away from your body.

Aurora Luxe Breakdown

The Aurora Luxe checks in at 13.25 inches tall and is available in medium soft (4), medium firm (6), and firm (7) models. All three firmness options have the same interior design.

Like the Signature Hybrid, the Aurora Luxe’s cover includes GlacioTex fabric meant to promote cooler sleep. The comfort system includes 1 inch of polyfoam quilted into the cover as well as 1.5 inches of copper-infused polyfoam and 1 inch of pressure-relieving memory foam.

A 1-inch layer of polyfoam serves as a transition layer and sits above 8 inches of high-performance pocketed coils that are zoned for targeted support and reinforced around the perimeter. A .75-inch layer of high-density polyfoam is the underlying base for the mattress.

You can add a pillow-top upgrade to the Aurora Luxe that swaps out the materials inside the cover and makes the mattress 14.5 inches tall. Inside that optional pillow-top are .75 inches of ThermoPhase foam with a PCM treatment and .75 inches of responsive polyfoam.

ThermoBalance Breakdown

The ThermoBalance Mattress is 14 inches tall and comes in medium soft (4), medium firm (6), and firm (7) options. The cover includes specialty textile fibers meant to keep heat from collecting around your body.

The interior layers of the ThermoBalance change slightly based on the firmness level you select, but the materials themselves are generally the same. These designs feature ThermoPhase foam with phase change material quilted into the cover. The next layer consists of adaptive polyfoam, followed by two layers of copper-infused memory foam.

Transitional polyfoam adds some extra cushioning about the support core, which contains 8-inch pocketed coils arranged in zones to better support the hips, shoulders, and lower back. The coils are also reinforced around the edges. A polyfoam base layer completes the design.

Mattress Sizing and Weight

All four mattresses are available in the six standard mattress sizes.

The Signature Hybrid and the Aurora Luxe also come in a range of other sizes, including many designed for tighter spaces. Additional size options for the Signature Hybrid and Aurora Luxe include split California king, short full, short queen, short king, Olympic queen, and several variations of an RV king.

The ThermoBalance is the tallest of these mattresses, although the Signature Hybrid and Aurora Luxe can be as tall or taller if you add the optional pillow-top. The mattresses weigh about the same except for the CopperFlex Memory Foam, which is lighter.

Performance Ratings

Ideal mattress performance isn’t universal. Instead, it aligns with your needs and priorities. For example, couples usually want more motion isolation, hot sleepers appreciate consistent temperature regulation, and those with joint pain need extra pressure relief.

For the Signature Hybrid, Aurora Luxe, and ThermoBalance, the performance depends on the firmness option you choose. The firmer models tend to allow easier movement and provide stronger edge support but offer less motion isolation and pressure relief.

In our testing, the CopperFlex provided excellent pressure relief, but it slept warmer than the other models and was not as robust around the edges. We found that the Aurora Luxe and ThermoBalance provided the best all-around performance, but the Signature Hybrid also performed well in most categories.

White Glove DeliveryBrooklyn Bedding does not offer White Glove delivery services such as mattress installation or old mattress removal.

For California residents only, Brooklyn Bedding facilitates old mattress removal via a third-party service provider.

That percentage gets higher the longer you’ve had the mattress.

The warranty covers uncommon defects in materials and manufacturing. It does not cover normal wear and tear or damage from neglect or accidents.

What Customers Are Saying

Verified customers of the CopperFlex, Signature Hybrid, Aurora Luxe, and ThermoBalance generally provide positive reviews.

Owners of the CopperFlex typically report that the mattress exceeds their expectations given its price, although some back and stomach sleepers and people over 230 pounds find it to be too soft. Customers of the two luxury models praise how sturdy these mattresses feel and how well they resist overheating.

Customer reviews also demonstrate the importance of choosing the right model. Selecting a firmness level that matches your personal preferences, sleeping position, and weight can dramatically affect how well the mattress supports your body.
