At SleepFoundation.org, we conduct extensive first-person experience tests on all but a select few products. This hands-on approach allows us to provide accurate, data-driven recommendations for mattresses, pillows, sheets, and other sleep essentials.
Guidelines for our testing methodology are as follows:
Every member of our team brings years of industry experience and knowledge to our hands-on evaluations. In addition to testing products, we’ve spoken to sleep experts and toured manufacturing sites.
Our testers fall into different categories based on body type, sleep position, and personal preferences. This level of diversity helps to ensure our product ratings are holistic and inclusive of all sleepers.
Each type of sleep product is tested using a unique set of performance criteria. We also assign ratings based on feedback from testers who fall into specific categories based on weight and sleep position (i.e. side sleepers who weigh 130 to 230 pounds).
We do not personally test CPAP equipment, anti-snoring mouthguards, supplements, and other medical devices that require a doctor's prescription. Rather than using specific rating criteria, we rely on our team's extensive knowledge of sleep products and medical industry standards to pair each reader with the right devices. These evaluations are also based on material and design quality, features, and other noteworthy product attributes.
The Ziwi ZiPP Classic is a competitively priced all-foam mattress that incorporates proprietary technology for enhanced pressure relief, support, and breathability. The unique design also helps ensure exceptional motion isolation for couples.

Although Ziwi was established in 2024, the company’s team has extensive experience in the mattress industry. One of its founders was also behind Purple, a mattress brand known for its gel grid technology comfort layer. Similarly, Ziwi offers proprietary technology known as Ziwi ZiPP, a support core made of foam pillars with two distinct firmness levels to cushion and support the sleeper’s body in equal measure. The Ziwi ZiPP Classic is the brand’s budget mattress model.
Measuring 11 inches thick, the Ziwi ZiPP Classic Mattress is a medium firm (6) all-foam model. Also known as the ZIPP Essential, the ZIPP Classic’s approachable price-point and mid-range firmness make the mattress a good match for many sleeper profiles. We’ll share the findings from our lab-based testing, go over construction and size options, and summarize Ziwi’s shipping and return policies to help you decide if the ZiPP Classic is the best mattress for you.

“The Ziwi ZIPP Classic felt similar to other zoned mattresses we’ve tested, but the difference is that the support shifts with you instead of staying fixed to specific regions.”

“The medium firm feel was supportive, and my hips and shoulders still sunk in just the right amount. I also didn’t feel much movement spread across the surface, which was a huge plus.”

Side Sleepers
When reading mattress reviews, pressure relief is usually one of the top priorities that side sleepers look for — and the Ziwi ZiPP Classic delivers. The polyfoam comfort layer cushions sensitive areas along the spine where pressure tends to build. Meanwhile, the core’s foam pillars flex under a side sleeper’s hips and shoulders to let those areas sink in without compromising postural support.
Across weight groups, our testers who sleep on their sides noted even contouring and good to great support. Due to the medium firm (6) feel, this mattress is best suited to side sleepers who weigh up to 230 pounds.
Back Sleepers
The Ziwi ZiPP Classic is a solid option for many back sleepers. The polyfoam comfort layer and the alternating firm and soft foam pillars cradle a back sleeper’s hips while supporting their lumbar region. This can help promote even spinal alignment.
During our tests, back sleepers under 130 pounds sunk into the ZIPP Classic just enough to relieve pressure. Back sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds also felt quite comfortable on this mattress. Some of our back sleepers over 230 pounds experienced slight sagging around their hips, though they didn’t report any significant lower-back discomfort.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers typically need the most support. The Ziwi ZIPP Classic’s polyfoam comfort layer cushions the surface, so the mattress doesn’t feel too hard against the front of a stomach sleeper’s body. At the same time, the core’s pillars redistribute weight for more targeted support and contouring, helping to keep the hips from sinking too deeply and promoting a more neutral spinal position.
While the Ziwi ZiPP performed well for stomach-sleeping testers under 130 pounds, most of the heavier testers in this position group needed a firmer sleep surface. Their midsections sank in a bit deeper than the rest of their bodies, putting some strain on their lower backs.
Mattress Performance
In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in ourTest Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.
Motion Isolation
8.5
/ 10
“The Ziwi ZiPP Classic’s exceptional motion isolation is a huge bonus. I barely noticed when my testing partner changed positions.” – Mary
Like many all-foam models, the Ziwi ZiPP Classic’s motion isolation stands out. Its polyfoam comfort layer absorbs surface-level vibrations, while the pillared polyfoam core isolates deeper movement.
For couples, even those who toss and turn throughout the night, this level of motion isolation should help minimize sleep disruptions caused by a partner’s movement.
Pressure Relief
8.5
/ 10
“The Ziwi ZiPP Classic’s contouring adjusted nearly perfectly to my body, relieving pressure around my hips and shoulders no matter where I lay on the bed.” – Logan
The Ziwi ZiPP Classic’s unique design is engineered for personalized pressure relief. Our body-mapping confirmed that the mattress excels in this area.
A polyfoam comfort layer cushions the surface. However, the pillared core is responsible for the most notable cradling since it flexes dynamically to adjust to the sleeper’s body, helping to distribute weight evenly across the surface.
This level of pressure relief may be especially beneficial for side sleepers prone to discomfort around their hips or shoulders.
Temperature Control
7
/ 10
“I didn’t overheat when lying on my side, back, or stomach. I noticed the foam warmed up slightly, but nothing that would interfere with my sleep.” – Mary
Our temperature readings of the Ziwi ZIPP Classic showed slight heat retention, though body warmth didn’t linger as much as it does on many all-foam models.
The ZiPP Classic’s use of polyfoam gives the mattress an edge for thermoregulation because this material typically traps less heat than memory foam. Additionally, the breathable cover and pillared core are designed to allow extra airflow and dissipate heat away from the mattress.
For hot sleepers that value even contouring and pressure relief, this balance of cushioning and airflow should help reduce overheating without sacrificing comfort.
Edge Support
7.5
/ 10
“I liked that I could lie right up to the edge without feeling like I might slide off. The perimeter compressed some, but not as much as I’ve seen in a lot of other all-foam models.” – Jeremy
Compared to many all-foam mattresses, the Ziwi ZiPP Classic’s perimeter feels relatively sturdy. Many foam designs compress significantly along the edges, which can feel unstable and reduce the bed’s usable surface area.
While the Ziwi ZiPP Classic’s perimeter isn’t reinforced like some hybrid models, it remains supportive thanks to the pillar-based core. Our testing showed mild to moderate compression, but none of our team members felt unstable when lying along the edges.
Ease of Movement
7.5
/ 10
“The Ziwi ZiPP Classic wasn’t what I’d call ‘bouncy,’ by any means, but the foam’s responsiveness meant I never felt trapped in the bed.” – Logan
Our testing team found the Ziwi ZiPP Classic fairly easy to move on. While other pressure-relieving models often hug the sleeper closely and are slow to respond to position changes, the ZiPP Classic’s more responsive polyfoam regained its shape quickly, so there weren’t any lingering body impressions.
As an all-foam model, the Zipp Classic doesn’t have the springy sensation common in hybrid and innerspring mattresses. However, sleepers who change positions regularly or those with mobility issues may appreciate the responsive design.
Durability
7
/ 10
The average foam mattress performs for 6 to 7 years before it needs to be replaced. We predict the Ziwi ZiPP Classic will meet or exceed this life expectancy.
Foam does degrade as it ages, so some wear and tear is normal. However, the Ziwi ZiPP Classic’s pillared core may help the mattress maintain more consistent support over time compared to traditional foam bases. That said, most sleepers should still expect gradual softening over time.
The Ziwi ZiPP Classic is a medium firm (6) all-foam mattress measuring 11 inches thick.
A polyester cover encases the mattress. It is engineered for breathability to help heat dissipate from the sleep surface, and it has a stretchy construction that allows it to move easily with the foam layers beneath. The cover is also removable for easier cleaning or maintenance.

The comfort layer consists of adaptive polyfoam that provides initial cushioning and contouring. This layer is designed to gently adapt to pressure points while maintaining a responsive, easy-to-move-on feel rather than a deep “hug” effect.
The support core features proprietary Ziwi ZiPP technology, which consists of interlocking softer and firmer polyfoam pillars. This unique design is intended to amplify pressure relief and promote steady circulation by allowing the pillars to flex, redistributing weight and creating gaps for airflow.

Trial, Shipping, and Warranty Policies
Availability
The Ziwi ZiPP Classic Mattress is available through the Ziwi website and Amazon.com.
Shipping
The Ziwi ZiPP Classic Mattress is compressed, rolled, and packaged in a box for shipping. It is delivered to the customer’s doorstep, or wherever they typically receive large packages.
The customer then brings the mattress into their room of choice and carefully unpacks it, which may require two physically able adults.
While the mattress may take up to 72 hours after unpacking to reach its full size, new owners can sleep on it after an hour.
Additional Services
Ziwi does not currently offer White Glove delivery. Old mattress removal is available in California and Connecticut.
Sleep Trial
When purchased through the Ziwi website, the Ziwi ZiPP Classic comes with a 100-night sleep trial. After trying the mattress for at least 20 nights, purchasers can initiate a return for the remainder of the trial period if they decide this isn’t the best mattress for them. Ziwi will arrange to have the unwanted mattress removed.
Returns may be eligible for a full refund, though deductions may occur to compensate for free products, interest accrued, shipping, and discounts.
Alternatively, customers can exchange their mattress for a different Ziwi model within the 100-night trial period after trying their initial purchase for 20 nights. Ziwi aims to deliver the new mattress on the same day the original mattress is removed, but timing may vary.
The initial 100-night trial period, calculated from the date of the first mattress delivery, will continue for the replacement mattress. However, if you receive a replacement late in the trial period, you may be allotted 30 days from the delivery of that second mattress.
To initiate a return, contact Ziwi customer service by phone or text. The mattress must be undamaged, clean, and have the tags attached to be eligible, and you’ll need to provide photos prior to pickup.
Warranty
A 20-year prorated limited warranty backs the Ziwi ZiPP Classic. Ziwi may elect to repair, replace, or refund mattresses with qualifying defects. The policy does not cover indentations shallower than 1.5 inches deep or damage from abuse or misuse.
For the first 2 years, the warranty fully covers repairs and replacements of qualifying defective mattresses. Beginning in the third year of ownership, the original purchaser pays 30% of the manufacturer’s suggested retail price for a new mattress. The original purchaser’s cost continues to increase by 5% each year for the remainder of the warranty period.
