EGOHOME and Nectar are established online mattress brands that offer a range of design options. Both take advantage of a direct-to-consumer model to maintain competitive pricing across their product lines.

EGOHOME is a brand under the umbrella of Mlily, a company that’s been manufacturing and selling mattresses in the U.S. since 2010. The EGOHOME Black is part of their “Signature Comforts” line with multiple designs, including a 12-inch memory foam mattress that serves as the brand’s flagship model. This mattress is available in three firmness levels.

Nectar launched in 2017 with the all-foam Nectar Classic. Since then, the company has dramatically expanded its lineup, including higher-end models like the Nectar Premier, Nectar Luxe, and Nectar Ultra.

This comparison focuses on the EGOHOME Black Foam Mattress and the Nectar Classic, both of which have competitive price-points designed to appeal to value shoppers. We go over their construction, performance ratings from our testing, and customer-focused policies to help you decide which is the best mattress for you.

Our Testing Team’s Take

Our team takes mattress testing seriously. We don’t rely on anecdotes or just one data point. Instead, we collect a mix of quantitative and qualitative information that gives us a complete picture of a mattress’s pros and cons.

After testing more than 2,000 models, we’ve refined our methodology. The current process includes hands-on measurements in our Test Lab as well as real-world feedback from our team members and a network of in-home field testers.

We analyze how a mattress is designed and the materials that go into it. We also account for many of the individual factors that drive sleeper satisfaction, including firmness preferences. Here’s what our testing found about the EGOHOME Black and the Nectar Classic.

Our Verdict

These mattresses share some core characteristics, including an all-foam design, memory foam comfort layer, and 12-inch profile. However, when we drill down into the details, there are important differences that can give either option a leg up to meet your needs.

Based on performance alone, our testing gives an advantage to the Nectar Classic. It rated as good or better in virtually every testing category. Although the EGOHOME Black had above-average motion isolation and pressure relief, the majority of our testers felt that the Nectar Classic was even stronger in these areas.

“The EGOHOME Black Mattress didn’t blow me away, but it punches above its price-point. You can really feel the memory foam hugging your body, which was good for my hips and shoulders. But that contouring may be too much for some people, and it also led to some heat buildup during the night.”

We found that the Nectar Classic provided more dependable edge support and was built with materials that are more likely to hold up over years of nightly use. Both rated about the same — decidedly below-average — for temperature regulation and ease of movement, which is typical for memory foam mattresses.

However, that doesn’t mean that the Nectar Classic is the right pick for everyone. The EGOHOME Black 12” Mattress is available in three firmness levels. These include a medium firm (6) design comparable to the Nectar Classic’s, along with plusher medium soft (4) and more supportive firm (7) models. This diversity makes the EGOHOME Black a better fit for people who prefer deep contouring, such as most side sleepers under 130 pounds, or robust reinforcement, such as back and stomach sleepers over 230 pounds.

“Given its price point, I was surprised by how well-built and comfortable the CopperFlex was. I also appreciated the great motion isolation on the all-foam models.”

The EGOHOME Black also has a major price advantage. Although the Nectar Classic is less expensive than many all-foam mattresses, the EGOHOME Black is even more affordable. This should appeal to value seekers who are working with a limited budget.

That said, Nectar does have more customer-friendly policies, including a 365-night sleep trial with no return fees. This is compared to a 100-night trial with a $49 return processing fee for the EGOHOME Black. Nectar’s warranty is also longer, though both cover defects in the mattress for at least 10 years. In terms of delivery range, Nectar ships to Alaska and Hawaii and offers White Glove delivery, though these services come at an additional cost. EGOHOME does not provide these services.

EGOHOME Black Mattress Breakdown

The EGOHOME Black 12” Foam Mattress contains three interior layers.

The top layer is made of memory foam infused with copper and cooling gel intended to provide moisture control and temperature regulation. This AeroFusion Foam hugs the body, molding to your shape and adapting to your weight. This deep hug allows it to cushion pressure points and isolate motion.

The second layer consists of polyfoam that adds a touch of responsiveness for additional support. The base layer is a thicker, denser polyfoam stabilizes the mattress and prevents you from sinking too deeply into the foam layers..

The top cover is smooth, soft, and woven with graphene fibers intended to prevent the buildup of heat, bacteria, and odors.

EGOHOME also offers the Black mattress in a 14-inch all-foam design, as well as 12-inch and 14-inch foam hybrid models.

Nectar Classic Mattress Breakdown

The Nectar Classic is a 12-inch all-foam mattress with a firmness level of medium firm (6). Like the EGOHOME Black, it’s constructed with three interior layers.

The top layer is 1 inch of memory foam that gently cradles the body, providing proportional cushioning to match the body’s heavier areas and pressure points. This foam also excels at motion isolation. The second layer is 3 inches of responsive polyfoam. This layer complements the memory foam by preventing excessive sinkage into the mattress.

The third layer is made with 8 inches of dense polyfoam that gives the mattress a sturdy feel and improves its edge support.

The cover is made with a polyester blend that is soft and breathable, and it includes an antimicrobial treatment intended to prevent bacteria from surviving on the sleep surface. Nectar also offers the option to upgrade the cover to include cooling technology engineered to help maintain temperature neutrality.

The Nectar Classic Hybrid is a variation on this mattress that includes a coil-based support core. Nectar’s product line also includes the Premier, Luxe, and Ultra Mattresses, which include more features for cooling, pressure relief, and zoned support.

Mattress Sizing and Weight

The EGOHOME Black and the Nectar Classic are both 12 inches tall. The Nectar Classic is a heavier mattress, weighing about 38% more than the EGOHOME Black in a queen size.

The Nectar Classic is available in all six standard mattress sizes, as well as split king and split California king designs. Size availability for the EGOHOME Black is more limited. A total of five sizes ranging from twin XL to king and California king are available, but some firmness levels are not sold in select sizes.

For those seeking a greater mattress profile, thicker mattresses are available from both EGOHOME and Nectar.

Performance Ratings

In our testing process, we don’t just give mattresses a single overall score. Instead, we rate performance across different categories. That’s because not every sleeper has the same priorities. For example, couples may place a higher premium on motion isolation, while hot sleepers care more about temperature regulation.

Seeing the breakdown of our testing team’s ratings in different categories can help you assess which of these mattresses better matches your sleep needs.

Mattress Pricing

The EGOHOME Black is a more affordable mattress than the Nectar Classic. Although the Nectar Classic has a competitive price relative to many other memory foam mattresses on the market, it still costs more than the EGOHOME Black.

If you’re working with a limited budget, pricing gives an edge to EGOHOME. However, our testing suggests that you get better overall performance and durability with the Nectar Classic.

If your budget is flexible and you want to look at mattresses with additional layers and features, you can consider the other offerings from Nectar, such as the Nectar Premier and Nectar Luxe.

What Customers Are Saying

In general, both EGOHOME and Nectar have been given high marks by verified customers. Shoppers appreciate how these brands have made memory foam mattresses more affordable for people with tight budgets. The EGOHOME Black wins praise from those who prefer softer or firmer beds. Like our testers, customers tend to describe the Nectar Classic as feeling robust and reliable.

But customer reviews also reflect the underlying fact about mattress shopping — there’s no perfect mattress for everyone. The key is to choose the right mattress based on your comfort preferences, sleeping position, body weight, and other sleep needs.
