BlanQuil is a Texas-based company that makes a range of bedding and various sleep accessories. Since their launch in 2018, BlanQuil weighted blankets have become known for their quality, comfort, and customizability. BlanQuil currently offers six different weighted blankets in a variety of sizes and weight options:

BlanQuil Quilted: Also called the BlanQuil Premium, this weighted blanket is BlanQuil’s flagship model. With three different weight options to choose from and a removable cover, it is a versatile blanket that may be a good fit for a variety of sleepers.

BlanQuil Chill: The BlanQuil Chill uses a breathable fabric that is designed to disperse body heat and allow those who sleep hot to remain comfortably cool throughout the night.

BlanQuil Basic: The BlanQuil Basic offers a single-piece design that is simplistic and ideal for those looking for an economic or easy-care option.

BlanQuil Royale Comforter: The BlanQuil Royale Comforter comes in queen and king sizes and features a removable cover with a weighted insert. The blanket’s design focuses the weight on the center of the sleep area to prevent the comforter from slipping off of larger beds.

BlanQuil Junior: At just 7 pounds, the BlanQuil Junior is a lightweight option that is ideal for children or for sleepers looking for modest pressure.

BlanQuil Passport: The BlanQuil Passport is designed with high-strength reinforced ties to increase durability even through travel. The blanket also comes with a fabric duffel to easily stow and pack with you.

We’ll focus exclusively on the flagship BlanQuil Quilted model. We will examine the blanket’s performance, materials, company policies, and different weight options in comparison to other weighted blankets on the market. We’ll also cover basic information on BlanQuil’s other models to help you find the right weighted blanket for you.

BlanQuil Weighted Blanket Review Breakdown

The BlanQuil Quilted Blanket comes in three different weight options and seven different colors, allowing enough customization to appeal to sleepers with different pressure or style preferences.

The blanket is composed of eco-friendly glass beads encased in a polyblend shell, which is then wrapped in a removable microplush cover. What stands out about the BlanQuil Quilted Blanket is the removable cover, which allows for easier cleaning and cooler sleeping. While many weighted blankets are spot-clean only, BlanQuil’s Quilted cover is machine-washable and dryer friendly. The polyblend shell is also made of a very breathable fabric that is soft and cool so that sleepers can rest comfortably without the cover in warmer months.

The BlanQuil Quilted Blanket is constructed using 77 independent baffles and features eight connection points made of high-strength reinforced ties to attach the inner blanket to the cover and avoid shifting or clumping. These ties and connections also add to the durability of the blanket, making this an option that won’t wear out quickly.

One factor sleepers should consider is that the microplush material of the cover may trap heat excessively for those who sleep hot. While the blanket can be used without the cover, those who are concerned about temperature regulation may prefer the BlanQuil Chill option or another weighted blanket that better disperses heat.

Materials and Options

The polyblend inner shell used in all of BlanQuil’s weighted blankets is breathable and soft, which allows the glass beads to conform gently to the body. With models specifically intended to accommodate those who travel, sleep hot, or are smaller, BlanQuil has many options available that appeal to a variety of lifestyles, needs, and preferences.

Pricing Information

Weighted blankets typically cost between $100 and $300, and BlanQuil’s products fall comfortably within this price range with the exception of the much-larger Royale Comforter.

Prices for weighted blankets vary based on quality, material, size, and weight. As a general rule, the heavier and larger the blanket, the higher the price tag. BlanQuil’s products follow these guidelines, with the smallest and lightest options – the Junior and the Basic – costing the least. The Quilted and the Passport are slightly larger and heavier, and therefore cost slightly more.

Meanwhile, the BlanQuil Chill is made of more advanced materials to aid with temperature regulation, and therefore it is the most costly of BlanQuil’s regular weighted blankets. Additionally, BlanQuil’s Royale Weighted Comforter is significantly larger and heavier than the other blankets, and is intended to cover the surface of a queen or king sized bed, thus making it the most expensive of BlanQuil’s models.

Weighted Blanket Performance Ratings

Though all weighted blankets are intended to promote relaxation by applying a soothing pressure, the level of comfort that different types of sleepers will experience depends on several performance factors. Prior to making a purchase, buyers should look at how the materials, weight options, and other properties align with their needs and preferences to choose the right weighted blanket for them.

The BlanQuil Quilted Weighted Blanket earns solid marks across our performance categories, though its greatest strengths lie in the quality and durability of the fill and the ease of care. With three different weight options, seven different colors, and the choice to remove the cover, the BlanQuil Quilted blanket is also a very customizable option.

One consideration that sleepers should be aware of, however, is temperature regulation. Similar to other weighted blankets on the market, the BlanQuil Quilted blanket may be lacking in terms of cooling properties. Though the glass beads and polyblend shell can aid in airflow, the microplush texture and added material of the cover tend to trap heat and may make the blanket too warm for some sleepers.

Quality of Fill

The eco-friendly glass beads promote airflow and gently conform to the body to increase the comfort of the blanket.

Quality of Shell

The polyblend fabric of the shell is soft enough to remain comfortable even without the cover, and it is breathable enough to aid in temperature regulation throughout the night.

Temperature Control

While the glass beads and polyblend shell promote breathability and temperature control, the microplush cover has a tendency to trap heat and moisture.

Weight Options

Sleepers can choose from the 15-, 20-, and 25-pound options. This 10-pound range allows this blanket to appeal to sleepers with a variety of body types and pressure preferences.

Distribution of Fill

Though the blanket has eight connection points to avoid shifting or clumping, our testers found that the glass beads tend to pool slightly toward the center of the blanket.

Durability

Thanks to the added protection of the duvet covers, our testers predict that the BlanQuil Quilted blanket should offer very good durability.

How Heavy Should My Weighted Blanket Be?

While it is generally accepted that a weighted blanket should be around 10% of the sleeper’s bodyweight, personal preferences also play a large role in determining how heavy your weighted blanket should be. Some sleepers may prefer a heavier blanket that provides extra pressure, while others may want a lighter option so they can move around throughout the night with ease and avoid feeling “trapped”.

The BlanQuil weighted blankets come in several different weight options, ranging from the lightweight 7-pound Junior model to the much heavier 36-pound Royale Comforter. This wide range of weights gives sleepers the option to select a blanket that suits their body type and pressure preferences.

Parents looking to purchase a weighted blanket for their child will likely gravitate toward the Junior model, which is lightweight enough to remain comfortable for smaller or restless sleepers. Parents of very small children, however, should note that it is not recommended to place a weighted blanket on anyone who is unable to adjust it if they are uncomfortable, may become trapped, or are unable to clearly communicate their wishes.
