Side Sleepers

The Nolah Evolution Hybrid’s Euro-top cover and thick polyfoam comfort and transition layers give a side sleeper’s curves ample room to sink in. This can spread out their weight to reduce pressure accumulation that often occurs around the hips and shoulders. The coil layer’s zoning can also help keep a side sleeper’s spine well aligned.

Nolah Evolution Hybrids with a plush (5) feel should be especially comfortable for side sleepers who weigh between up to 230 pounds, gently shaping to their hips and shoulders without sagging. The bed won’t have as much hug for side sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds since they won’t sink in as deeply, but they should still experience notable pressure relief and support. The luxury firm (6) is another safe bet for side sleepers in the range of 130-230 pounds. If they weigh over 230 pounds, they should opt for the firm (8) feel.

Back Sleepers

Back sleeping keeps the spine close to its natural alignment, so individuals who favor this sleep position typically need a mattress that has enough give for their hips to sink in a bit without drooping. The Nolah Evolution Hybrid’s Euro-top cover and two layers of polyfoam contour and cushion the hips, while the zoning of its coil layer limits sinkage.

Back sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds should receive excellent support from beds with a plush (5) feel, which allows the hips to sink in just enough to keep their spines relatively straight. Those who weigh 130-230 pounds pounds should opt for at least a luxury firm (6) to ensure adequate support. For back sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds, the firm (8) feel will probably the most comfortable option.

Stomach Sleepers

Lower back pain often occurs when the weight around a stomach sleeper’s midsection pulls them too deeply into the mattress and strains the lumbar region. Because of this, stomach sleepers often favor firmer models for extra support. The Nolah Evolution Hybrid’s zoned coil layer will balance plushness and support for some stomach sleepers, but the mattress will be too soft for others.

Stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds may feel comfortable on the plush (5) feel, but some will prefer the luxury firm (6) instead. The same is likely true for stomach sleepers who weigh 130-230 pounds, while those who weigh more should consider enhanced support of the firm (8) feel.

Mattress Performance

In addition to the hands-on feedback from our team, we conduct a number of quantitative tests in our Test Lab. The below ratings are based on the experience of our testers.

Motion Isolation

8/10

Nolah Evolution 15 – Firm: 7.5 / 10

Nolah Evolution 15 – Luxury Firm: 8 / 10

Nolah Evolution 15 – Plush: 8.5 / 10

Thanks to its thick polyfoam comfort and transition layers and Euro-top cover, the Nolah Evolution Hybrid absorbs movement well. The fiber padding in the cover should muffle vibrations while the foam helps capture them and prevent them from traveling, which may be valuable for those who sleep with a partner. Since the coil core gives the bed bounce, however, it could lead to mild motion transfer. Each coil is independent and pocketed to limit this possibility.

Other hybrid models also combine motion-absorbing comfort layers with springy coil cores, so the Nolah Evolution Hybrid’s performance in this category is on par with similarly constructed options. Models with the plush (5) feel provide the best motion isolation, but we noticed minimal motion transfer across all three firmness levels.

Pressure Relief

6.5/10

Nolah Evolution 15 – Firm: 6.5 / 10

Nolah Evolution 15 – Luxury Firm: 6.5 / 10

Nolah Evolution 15 – Plush: 6.5 / 10

The Nolah Evolution Hybrid’s ample polyfoam layers coupled with its Euro-top cover have strong pressure-relieving potential, which is similar to or better than most hybrid models on the market.

Fiber padding cushions the surface of the bed for a plusher feel. Underneath, two 2-inch layers of polyfoam mold to the sleeper’s body to spread out their weight more evenly and limit pressure buildup. The zoning in the coil layer heightens this effect by allowing the hips and shoulders to sink in while preventing the middle from sinking in too deeply.

While the Nolah Evolution Hybrid should provide exceptional pressure relief for most sleepers, choosing the right firmness level is key. The plush (5) feel should reduce pressure for side sleepers weighing up to 230 pounds, and back sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds. The luxury firm (6) feel is well suited to anyone in the range of 130-230 pounds. Lastly, the firm (8) option will likely be most comfortable for back and stomach sleepers weighing more than 230 pounds.

Temperature Control

7.5/10

Nolah Evolution 15 – Firm: 8 / 10

Nolah Evolution 15 – Luxury Firm: 7.5 / 10

Nolah Evolution 15 – Plush: 7.5 / 10

Hybrid models often excel at temperature regulation, and the Nolah Evolution Hybrid is no exception. The cooling starts in the Euro-top cover, which contains conductive fibers engineered to draw excess heat away from the body. The polyfoam used in both the comfort and transition layers has an open-cell structure that allows more heat to escape than most memory foam.

A graphite infusion within the comfort layer is also designed to draw heat away, while a 2-inch breathable gusset around the top edge of the mattress enhances airflow. Circulation through the coil core can further allow heat to dissipate away from the bed.

Edge Support

9/10

Nolah Evolution 15 – Firm: 9.5 / 10

Nolah Evolution 15 – Luxury Firm: 9 / 10

Nolah Evolution 15 – Plush: 8.5 / 10

Many hybrid models have edge reinforcement around their coil cores, extending the usable surface area by reducing the potential for edge sinkage. The Nolah Evolution Hybrid follows suit with a perimeter of support foam around the coils for extra strength and structural support. This makes the edge of the Nolah Evolution Hybrid as sturdy or sturdier than those of most hybrid models.

Edge support may be especially beneficial for couples who need more room to move around because it enables them to sleep near the perimeter without feeling unstable. It may also be important to those who frequently sit or sleep on the edge as well as anyone who has difficulties getting into or out of bed.

It’s important to note that firmness level does affect edge support. Models with the plush (5) feel don’t feel quite as sturdy around the perimeter as those with the luxury firm (6) or firm (8) feel. However, the coil system ensures the mattress shouldn’t sink to an excessive degree regardless of the selected firmness.

Ease of Movement

7/10

Nolah Evolution 15 – Firm: 7.5 / 10

Nolah Evolution 15 – Luxury Firm: 7 / 10

Nolah Evolution 15 – Plush: 7 / 10

Because of its plush Euro-top cover and thick layers of polyfoam, the Nolah Evolution Hybrid may not be as easy to move on as many hybrid models. These layers can hug closely to the body, which may make it more difficult to change positions during the night. However, the polyfoam is more responsive than most memory foam, so it should regain its original shape relatively quickly so that sleepers don’t feel trapped in a lasting body impression.

Again, firmness level is important for evaluating the mattress in this category. People who weigh less than 130 pounds should have little to no trouble moving across models with the plush (5) feel. Those who weigh more should opt for the luxury firm (6) or – if they need extra support – the firm (8).

Off-Gassing

7.5/10

While it shouldn’t maintain lasting odors, the Nolah Evolution Hybrid may have an initial new mattress smell when first unpacked. This occurs because smells linger from the manufacturing process used to craft synthetic foam, and they don’t have time to air out when a mattress ships compressed. Other hybrid models that contain synthetic foam will likely have similar odors.

If the smell bothers you, just leave the mattress in a separate well-ventilated room until the off-gassing process is complete, which may take a few days.

Nolah Evolution Hybrid Mattress Review Breakdown

As the name suggests, the Nolah Evolution Hybrid Mattress is a hybrid model, which means it combines foam and coils. A quilted Euro-top cover cushions the surface of the bed. While the mattress is available in three firmness levels – plush (5), luxury firm (6), and firm (8) – the pillow-top contains 2 inches of foam padding to give the mattress a plush feel regardless of the selected firmness.

Thermally conductive ArcticTex fibers in this layer are engineered to draw heat away to help the sleeper maintain a more consistent temperature. The cover also has a 2-inch breathable gusset around the top edge of the bed to promote air circulation through the comfort layer.

The comfort layer consists of 2 inches of graphite-infused AirFoam polyfoam. This proprietary material is designed to draw heat away while cradling the body for pressure relief. The foam has a zoned design that offers enhanced contouring around the shoulders and extra support in the lower back. A 2-inch layer of high-resilience polyfoam acts as the transition layer, separating the comfort system from the firmer core while adding support and responsiveness.

Patented HDMax Eco Support Coils make up the support core. This layer measures 8 inches thick. Each coil is pocketed so that it can move independently without excessive motion transfer. Zoning makes the head and foot of the bed softer and the middle more supportive to promote healthy spinal alignment. A layer of polyfoam wraps around the outside of the coils for enhanced edge support, and a final 1-inch base layer of high-density polyfoam stabilizes the spring system.

Shipping

Ground shipping is free within the contiguous United States. Most mattresses leave the factory 2 to 5 days after an order is placed. The bed then ships via FedEx or UPS and should arrive 3 to 5 business days later. Customers will receive a tracking number when their order ships. Most mattresses arrive 5 to 10 business days after the customer places their order.

Each mattress is compressed, wrapped, and packed in a box for shipping. FedEx or UPS will leave the box where you usually receive large packages. Nolah recommends having another person help you move the boxed mattress into your room of choice. From there, you can unbox it, position it, unwrap it, and allow it to expand.

Additional Services

For an additional fee, Nolah will coordinate the setup of the new mattress and/or removal of the old mattress through a third-party logistics company. Mattress removal and setup cost $150 each or $300 for both services. These fees are non-refundable.

Sleep Trial

A 120-night trial period is included with the Nolah Evolution Hybrid Mattress. If you try the bed for at least 30 nights and decide it isn’t right for you, you can return it for a refund of the purchase price. There is a $99 transportation fee for returns and exchanges.

Nolah will attempt to arrange for a local charity to remove the unwanted mattress. If an appropriate charity can’t be found, Nolah will try to coordinate a pickup by a junk hauler or a recycling company.

If you are not interested in a trial period, you can opt out to reduce the purchase price.

Warranty

The Nolah Evolution Hybrid Mattress comes with a partially prorated lifetime limited warranty. This policy extends to the original mattress purchaser who bought their bed through Nolah or an authorized seller and used it for residential, non-commercial purposes.
