Sleep Health of our Military and Veterans
It’s essential for our military personnel to be alert when on duty or during combat. How well and how long they slept heavily influences their ability to be ready and perform their best. We want the government to recognize these important sleep health factors.
Our veterans also commonly experience health conditions, such as PTSD, depression and anxiety. When they have difficulty sleeping, their existing conditions can worsen. Improving sleep health will positively influence almost all aspects of our health, and this is especially true among veterans.
To improve the sleep health of our military and veterans, NSF urges members of Congress to ask the U.S. Departments of Defense and Veterans’ Affairs to add a requirement for care providers to ask patients about their sleep in every physical examination and provide improved sleep health education and treatment for military members, veterans and their families.
