Since 1860, Frette has been crafting high-quality linens from its bases in Monza and Milan, Italy. Frette linens are commonly featured in high-end hotels, and the company produces over a dozen different sheet sets.

The company crafts an array of cotton bed linens, ranging from soft sateen to smooth poplin to crisp percale. Some of the most popular sheet sets include the Doppio Ajour, the Hotel Classic, the Single Ajour, the Triplo Bourdon, and the Ultimate.

The Single Ajour and Doppio Ajour feature a cotton sateen weave, and the Triplo Bourdon Sheet Set is made with soft cotton poplin. The Hotel Classic Sheet Set is composed of crisp cotton percale, and the Ultimate Sheet Set is crafted of Egyptian cotton Giza 45. The varying materials appeal to shoppers with different needs and preferences relating to style, seasonality, sleeping habits, and budgets.

All of these Frette sheet sets offer above-average durability. Frette bed linens also undergo a patented finishing process designed to make them feel smooth and silky.

We’ll analyze the performance of the most popular Frette sheet sets, including materials, construction, and pricing. We’ll also explain how to care for these luxury sheets and what to consider when shopping for new bedding.

Frette Sheets Review Breakdown

When comparing the Frette sheet sets, shoppers should consider their unique needs, preferences, and budgets. The Doppio Ajour, the Hotel Classic, the Single Ajour, the Triplo Bourdon, and the Ultimate are composed of cotton, and are soft and breathable. The weaves of the sheets affect their feel, appearance, and seasonality. Style options, including colors and embroidery, also differ depending on the fabrication.

Additional factors to consider include sizing and pricing. All of Frette’s bed sheets carry higher-than-average price tags due to the quality of their materials and construction.

Materials and Construction

The materials and construction of each Frette sheet set determine factors such as temperature regulation, feel, appearance, durability, and proper care procedures. Frette offers over a dozen sheet sets, but we’ll focus on five sets that are all fabricated from cotton and vary in their weaves.

Hot sleepers often prefer the crisp feel of the percale weave, which uses a one-over-one-under pattern. Sateen sheets use a one yarn under, three or four yarns over pattern that typically produces a wrinkle-resistant finish, lustrous sheen, and a soft feel. Like percale, poplin uses a plain weave that forms a criss-cross pattern. However, its performance tends to balance the crispness of percale and smoothness of sateen.

Doppio Ajour: The Doppio Ajour Sheet Set is constructed of smooth cotton sateen with a double open hemstitch and lustrous finish.

Hotel Classic: Made of cotton in a percale weave, the Frette Hotel Classic Sheet has a crisp and cool feel. These airy, breathable sheets are a good choice for warmer climates. While percale may feel a bit stiff at first, it softens after repeated washings.

Single Ajour: The Frette Single Ajour Sheet Set is made of cotton sateen for a smooth texture with a lustrous finish. An open hemstitch embellishes the set.

Triplo Bourdon: The Frette Triplo Bourdon Sheets are constructed of cotton poplin, an all-season fabric that is crisp like percale and smooth like sateen. These high-shine sheets are embellished with a three-line embroidery.

Ultimate: Constructed of high-grade Egyptian cotton Giza 45, the Frette Ultimate Sheet Set is the most expensive sheet option by the brand. Giza 45 boasts extremely long staples, providing a smooth feel and above-average durability.

Prices and Sizing

Frette produces luxury linens with a price-point to match. However, the quality of the materials and craftsmanship may justify the higher cost for shoppers and extend the usable lifespan of the set.

Queen, king, and California king sets include a top sheet, a fitted sheet, and two shams or pillowcases. Twin size sets have a top sheet, a fitted sheet, and one sham or pillowcase.

Care and Cleaning

Frette sheets are an investment, and they require appropriate care to help prolong their lifespans. Owners should follow the care instructions specified by the manufacturer to avoid damaging the sheets.

The Doppio Ajour, Hotel Classic, Single Ajour, Triplo Bourdon, and Ultimate Sheets can be machine washed in cold water with mild, biodegradable liquid detergent without added bleach or whiteners. The sheets should be washed with like colors and fabrics. Sheets with embroidery or lace should be enclosed in a thin mesh bag, and pillowcases and duvet covers should be turned inside out. Tumble dry the sheets with low heat, and remove before completely dry.
