What is the “Sleeping Smart” campaign?

“I’ve teamed up with the National Sleep Foundation, together with sanofi-aventis U.S. for the Sleeping Smart Campaign. This was designed to educate the millions of Americans who have sleep problems about the importance of a good night’s sleep.

This campaign motivates sleep-sufferers to talk to their healthcare professionals to determine if treatment is appropriate, and it educates about the safe and appropriate use of prescription sleep medications.

Debunking sleep myths

"We’re also going to debunk some common myths associated with sleep.

As a women’s health advocate, I am passionate about educating women about many health topics, including the importance of sleep."

What is insomnia?

"Insomnia is nearly twice as common in women than in men, and women are more likely than men to report insomnia to their healthcare professional.

A woman’s sleep is uniquely influenced by the menstrual cycle, biological life stages, stress levels, health, mood, parental status, work hours and many other life responsibilities.

Insomnia can be a serious medical condition characterized by difficulty falling asleep, difficulty staying asleep, waking up often during the night and then having trouble going back to sleep, waking up too early in the morning, or feeling tired upon awakening. Decreased work performance, depression or mood changes, and increased risk of automotive crashes are all potential consequences of insomnia.

So don’t neglect your sleep - speak to your healthcare professional to develop a treatment plan to help you fall or stay asleep. Sleep is just as important to your health as proper
