Sleep Health of Older Adults
As we age, sleep is increasingly linked to brain function and overall quality of life. Healthy sleep can improve cognition, memory, metabolic function, healing, productivity and positive thinking.
NSF advocates to improve sleep health among nursing home residents and long-term care patients who are at-risk for disease and accident-related injury.
To improve the sleep health of nursing home residents and long-term care patients, NSF urges members of Congress to ask the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to standardize lighting in long-term care facilities to align with circadian rhythm biology, improve access to sleep health care for long-term care patients and improve sleep health education for long-term care providers.
