His on the road and simulator studies focused on driver fatigue and alertness; while other efforts involved implementing employee health and wellness programs. His human factors and ergonomics consulting efforts have included work for the U.S. Departments of Defense, Army, Navy, Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection, and Transportation Security Administration. Currently he is a consultant on commercial driver health and wellness for the Transportation Research Board.

Sascha Simon heads up advanced product planning for Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA), and is responsible for long-term strategic planning and technology development within the company’s product management area. In this role, Simon works in tandem with the research, development and product design areas in Stuttgart, Germany and Palo Alto, California utilizing market research, trend data and information from the MBUSA’s research communities to anticipate the automotive needs and expectations of U.S. consumers in the decades to come. Simon’s areas of expertise include alternative powertrain concepts, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), advanced safety systems and vehicle telematics. Prior to joining MBUSA in 2004, Simon worked at Daimler-Benz Aerospace in Munich where he was head of business development and strategy for the Satellite Constellation branch of the then newly formed European Aeronautics, Defense and Space Corporation (EADS), before holding several other positions in areas ranging from corporate planning and technology to jet engines and advanced space systems. He was instrumental in the early stage planning of the European Navigation Constellation Galileo and has spearheaded satellite-based telematics and satellite radio initiatives. Simon holds degrees in physics and business administration from the Justus-Liebig University in Giessen, Germany and from the University of California, Los Angeles. A dedicated conservationist, scuba diver, as well as co-founder and board member of the non-profit organization Shark Savers, Inc., Simon has spoken frequently on automobiles and their impact on the environment, now and in the future. Simon also frequently draws on his science background to address vehicle safety technology and advanced driver assist systems. In this vein, he is also knowledgeable on intelligent transportation systems (ITS) as well as vehicle connectivity (telematics).
