Use the following language in a petition in support of later school start times. With this petition, we the undersigned, support the change of high school/middle school/school district to begin no earlier than ______am for high schools and _____am for middle schools. We know that with the current schedule, our students’ bodies and brains are not fully functional until well after school has begun. The results of studies from other schools/school districts that have made the change to a later start time indicate that students get an average of one hour more sleep per school night, their attendance and graduation rates improved and teachers noticed that students were more alert and ready to participate in ways that promote learning. We believe that this change will be extremely beneficial to the students of ______________ schools/school district and our educational system. Then have people provide their signature, printed name, address, phone and e-mail. |
