School Board Proposal Outline

When preparing a proposal to the school board it will be important to incorporate the following elements:

  • Introduction/Background: Why is this important? How and why was the issue raised?
  • Research: What compelling evidence did you find for the change (include a bibliography)? What were the results of your survey? Etc.
  • Proposal: What was your process? Who was involved? What change do you want to see? Include the several options you considered, the advantages and disadvantages, and include information on how you narrowed down your options and why you support a specific one. Address solutions to related problems.
  • Recommendation: Take an official stance and provide supporting information and a timeline.
  • Implementation: Give a plan for implementing your proposal, including who, when, how. Also include suggestions on ways and to whom the change should be communicated.
  • Contact Person: Who the board should contact with questions, etc.

Your proposal is the best chance you have to make your case. Include as much as you can and make it clear that you have done your homework.

Good Luck!
