Dr. Belenky is the director of the Sleep and Performance Research Center at Washington State University Spokane. He received his BA in Psychology from Yale University in 1966 and his MD from Stanford University School of Medicine in 1971. While in medical school, he worked in the laboratory of Dr. William Dement, the father of sleep medicine. Dr. Belenky completed a residency in Psychiatry at the Yale University School of Medicine in 1975. Since 1975, he has been on active duty with the U.S. Army working at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), the largest Army medical research and development laboratory. Dr. Belenky currently holds the rank of Colonel and is Professor in the Department of Psychiatry of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the Sleep Research Society, and the European Sleep Research Society. |
