National Sleep Foundation Meeting Description Template

A brief introductory paragraph/description is required at the beginning of your program.  The text should describe the focus of the upcoming meeting.  Upon submission, the description will be posted to your meeting page on the National Sleep Foundation website.

The following is an example of a typical meeting description:

Sleep Health & Safety 2011 kicks off National Sleep Awareness Week® and brings together sleep physicians and specialists, primary care physicians, public health officials and transportation safety specialists to learn the state-of-the-art in sleep.  This dual-track conference will feature CME sleep medicine sessions as well as sessions on health and safety.  Top-level experts will lead programs dedicated to sleep medicine for primary care physicians in tandem with programs on drowsy driving, school start times and work place fatigue issues.  More than 250 health professionals are expected to attend.  The program will also include a poster session, Sleep Care Leadership Summit for CEOs, and the NSF’s Annual Awards Dinner.

The description area can also be used to provide various other types of useful information: You can include application/abstracts submission guidelines, put out a call for topic suggestions, contact information, site/recreational activity information, or even a link to your own website.

Tips/Guidelines for Writing a Conference Description: The information should not be specific to the particular meeting you are Chairing, but rather be a general overview of what the conference itself is all about.  Feel free to add information on the formation or early history of the conference, title/topic changes, or relevance to important milestones in the scientific community.  Try to include information on all of the different topics the conference covers.  Try to include any keywords that you believe will be useful in leading people to the conference.  Finally, feel free to collaborate with previous Chairs!  You will often find that they are happy to help and may have just the information you need.
