The National Sleep Foundation will host the annual Sleep Health & Safety 2013 on March 1-2, 2013 at the Gaylord National Hotel in National Harbor, Maryland in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The National Sleep Foundation invites researchers to submit abstracts in the area of sleep health and safety.
The Sleep Health & Safety 2013 is a national conference that brings together hundreds of motivated sleep health care professionals, including sleep medicine doctors, sleep technicians, respiratory therapists, allied health professionals from the sleep community as well as primary care practitioners. This annual one and a half day meeting coincides with the National Sleep Foundation’s National Sleep Awareness Week™ and the release of the annual Sleep in America Poll results which reveal Americans’ attitudes and behaviors about sleep. Throughout the conference, the Exhibit Hall will feature the latest products and services from a variety of companies in the sleep field.
The Health Care Professional track is intended for practicing clinicians and the Public Health and Safety track is targeted for professionals in the sleep health and safety communities. Leaders in state and federal government, school and public health, occupational medicine, transportation, industry, and academia will discuss the state-of-the-art in protecting Americans from the consequences of fatigue and untreated sleep disorders.
Poster Topics
Authors are required to select a topic from the list below and abstracts should be limited to the list below. The National Sleep Foundation reserves the right to assign abstracts to new topic areas. The poster presentation will showcase research on sleep science and its association to public policy and related topics, including:

Submission Guidelines
All abstracts must comply with the following guidelines. The National Sleep Foundation reserves the right to reject abstracts that do not comply with the following submission requirements:
- The abstract must be submitted electronically. A non-refundable abstract submission fee of $50 per submission must be paid at the time of submission.
- The abstract must include:
- Title: title of the abstract should clearly define the topic.
- Introduction: state the purpose of the study, what question was asked and why;
- Methods: describe the methodology used to seek the answer;
- Results: summarize the results; and
- Conclusion: discuss the findings with respect to their relationship to existing knowledge, their overall significance and the like.
- The abstract must be written in English.
- The abstract must be submitted on or before 11:59 pm ET on November 9, 2012. Late submissions will not be accepted.
- Content must be the author’s original, unpublished work or published within the last six months. If published within the last six months, you are required to provide the citation.
- Standard abbreviations may be used. Spell out abbreviated terms on first use.
- Online submission constitutes a commitment to present at the Sleep Health & Safety 2013 if accepted.
- Use generic names of prescription drugs and therapeutic equipment.
- Accepted abstracts may be published online on NSF’s website. Online submission constitutes an agreement and an understanding of this fact by all authors.
- Omit any reference to authorship and/or institution within the body of the abstract.
- Abstract must be no longer than 500 words.
- There is a limit of one figure and/or table per abstract. Insert all images at the end of your document.
Presentation Guidelines
- Confirmed poster presenters will be assigned poster space.
- Posters should measure no larger than 4’ x 4’ and should be organized for viewing.
- Commercial product brands and marks are prohibited.
- Only first authors of accepted abstracts will receive complimentary registrations to the conference (i.e., session tracks, exhibit hall, and poster sessions).
- Abstract author/submitter is solely responsible for all expenses associated with the preparation, submission, presentation or any travel necessary to attend the event.
Poster Presentations
Posters will be on display March 1-2, 2013 at Sleep Health & Safety. All poster presenters must be present at the designated time and are responsible for putting up and taking down the presentations. Poster setup times are 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm on February 28 and 7:00 am – 8:30 am on March 1. Tear down is 11:00 am – 12:00 pm on March 2.
