Sleep Health & Safety 2012
*** IMPORTANT UPDATE: Online registration site is closed. You can still register onsite at the JW Marriott on March 2. ***
The National Sleep Foundation’s Sleep Health & Safety 2012 will take place March 2-3 at the JW Marriott Hotel in downtown Washington, DC. Sleep profoundly affects our health and safety. Millions of people have sleep disorders, and most go undiagnosed and untreated. Many Americans are sacrificing their sleep health by working longer into the night. Thousands of fatigue-related car crashes occur each year. Sleep Health & Safety 2012 examines sleep from both clinical and public health perspectives. It offers two tracks—a Health Care Professional Track targeted to primary care physicians that provides CME credits for physicians and health care professionals and a Public Health and Safety Track targeted to public health, transportation, and safety professionals, as well as government officials and sleep researchers. Please join us this March in Washington, DC.
Registrants can attend any of the sessions in the Health Care Professional Track and the Public Health and Safety Track.
Health Care Professional Track
Sleep problems and fatigue are among the most common presentations in a primary care setting, but they are rarely covered in medical school. Sleep Health & Safety is the only conference to provide sleep training for primary care physicians, nurses and physician assistants. The program will help health care professionals hone their diagnosis and treatment for insomnia, sleep apnea, RLS and narcolepsy along with common comorbidities, such as hypertension, diabetes and obesity.
Learning Objectives (relevant to the Health Care Professional Track only)
Upon completion of this activity, learners should be able to:
- Discuss the implications for clinical medicine posed by sleep disorders
- List the risk factors of various sleep and circadian disorders
- Describe the clinical characteristics of various sleep and circadian disorders
- Distinguish treatment approaches for various sleep and circadian disorders
- Explain the association of sleep loss, sleep disorders and comorbid conditions
- Use appropriate diagnostic tools to assess patient’s sleep health
Public Health & Safety Track
This track will cover significant developments in the areas of sleep health and safety including national epidemiology data collections efforts, fatigue research and programs in transportation and other safety-sensitive occupations, drowsy driving policy and prevention efforts. Leaders in state and federal government, school and public health, occupational medicine, transportation, industry, and academia will discuss the state-of-the-art in protecting Americans from the consequences of fatigue and untreated sleep disorders.
